This research discusses the strengthening of community roles in supporting the sustainability of pump house operations as an effort for flood mitigation in Sampang Regency. The frequent floods in this area are caused by geographical factors and an inadequate drainage system. This study aims to explore the active role of the community in the management and maintenance of pump houses. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection through interviews, surveys, and observations. The findings indicate that community participation in monitoring the condition of the pump houses and maintenance activities significantly contributes to the effectiveness of flood mitigation. This research examines the influence of development policies on community empowerment in rural areas. Using a mixed-methods approach combining quantitative surveys (n=400) across four diverse rural districts with qualitative interviews (n=40) and focus group discussions (n=12), the study identifies key factors affecting the success of empowerment programs. Findings reveal that community participation in planning phases and equitable access to resources (financial, informational, and material) are fundamental determinants of successful rural empowerment. The research demonstrates that development policies are most effective when they: (1) enable genuine participation beyond mere consultation, (2) build on existing community institutions, (3) address power imbalances within communities, and (4) provide appropriate external facilitation. Statistical analysis shows strong correlations between empowerment outcomes and participation in planning (β=0.73, p<0.001) and access to financial resources (β=0.68, p<0.001). This study contributes to the theoretical understanding of empowerment processes and practical knowledge for policymakers and practitioners seeking to design more effective community development interventions in rural contexts.

This article examines the synergy between Islamic theological values and local wisdom as a basis for resistance to environmental exploitation in Mandailing Natal. The focus of the study lies on the application of faith principles, such as the concepts of khalifah, justice, and ihsan, and their implementation through the traditional practice of lubuk larangan. The literature study method was used to collect and analyze secondary data from scientific articles, journals, and national and local news sources. The results of the study show that these Islamic theological values have been deeply rooted in the culture of the Mandailing Natal community, encouraging a critical attitude towards illegal gold mining practices that damage the ecosystem. The lubuk larangan tradition also acts as a mechanism for social control and environmental conservation, by implementing periodic restrictions on extractive activities to provide space for natural regeneration. The findings indicate that the integration of Islamic theology and local wisdom results in a more integrated and ethical natural resource management paradigm. This research recommends strengthening the synergy of faith values and local traditions in the formulation of public policies and increasing community participation in environmental monitoring. This integrative approach can be used as a strategic model to overcome the challenges of environmental exploitation amid increasingly complex global dynamics.

Waste management is increasingly critical due to the rising waste generated by community activities driven by a consumptive lifestyle. A key solution to this issue is the implementation of waste bank programs, though community participation and operational efficiency remain challenges, as seen with the Bangkitku Waste Bank in Jambi City. This study focuses on designing the user interface for the Bangkitku Waste Bank Information System using the design thinking method and evaluating the usability of the prototype. The design process followed the five stages of design thinking: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, with data collected through interviews and observations. The analysis involved tools such as empathy maps, user personas, sitemaps, and user flows, with prototypes created using Figma. Usability testing was conducted with 10 participants, including administrators and customers, resulting in high usability scores—98 for administrators and 97 for customers. The majority of participants found the system easy to use, as indicated by responses on the Single Ease Question (SEQ) survey. The prototype met key usability criteria, improving both operational efficiency and community engagement in waste bank management. The findings demonstrate the system's potential to foster sustainable environmental practices and enhance the effectiveness of waste bank management.

Indonesia is a tropical country which of course cannot avoid the occurrence of dengue fever. engue fever is still one of the serious diseases faced in Indonesia. The results of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia in 2022, the number of dengue cases reached 131.265. Prevention and eradication measures are more effective by eradicating mosquito larvae with PSN. PSN efforts require cooperation between the government and community participation. The role of eradicating mosquito nests must always be increased, includes draining water reservoirs, tightly closing water reservoirs, reusing used goods that can hold water and have the potential to become breeding grounds for mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever. In general, most residents use water reservoirs and there are piles of rubbish around the house and there are still puddles and water reservoirs. For this reason, there needs to be education for the community about eradicating mosquito nests, one of which is by utilizing used goods so that they do not become a place for the shelter and development of mosquito larvae that cause dengue fever. The method used in this community service is by providing education and counseling to the community regarding explanations regarding waste management, sorting, benefits and recycling of waste. The implementation of this PkM activity went well and smoothly. The community was enthusiastic in participating in this activity. There was an increase in public knowledge and understanding during the discussion session of the activity. It is hoped that the community can manage waste properly and correctly to avoid various diseases, especially Dengue Fever (DBD).

Drainage is an infrastructure system designed to channel water from one place to another. This study is based on Article 2 of the Regulation of the Minister of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia No. 12 of 2014 concerning the Implementation of Urban Drainage Systems. This research aims to analyze the drainage maintenance carried out by the Public Works and Housing Office (PUPR) of Pekanbaru City using Dhillon B.S’s asset maintenance theory, which consists of two main indicators: preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance. This study employs a qualitative approach with data collection methods including in-depth interviews and field observations. The results indicate that drainage maintenance in Pekanbaru City faces several challenges, such as budget constraints, low public awareness, a shortage of skilled labor, outdated infrastructure conditions, and the impact of extreme weather conditions. The findings suggest that the drainage maintenance efforts by the PUPR Office of Pekanbaru City still encounter numerous challenges, particularly in technical aspects and community participation. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the budget and develop more competent human resources in the field of drainage maintenance. Additionally, more intensive public awareness campaigns on the importance of maintaining drainage cleanliness and the enforcement of penalties for violators should be strengthened. The utilization of modern technology, such as sensors and drone-based monitoring systems, can also serve as a solution to enhance the effectiveness of drainage maintenance. With these measures, it is expected that the drainage system in Pekanbaru City can function more optimally and sustainably.
