This study aims to explore the influence of formal language skills on the use of slang among first-semester students in the English Language and Literature Education Program at Muhammadiyah University Maumere. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach with subjects consisting of first-year students. Information was collected through observation, questionnaire distribution, and brief interviews about daily language use habits and academic contexts. The findings of this study indicate that the majority of students actively use slang when interacting informally, especially when communicating with peers and on social media platforms. The use of slang serves as a way to express identity, build social solidarity, and facilitate social adjustment. However, deficiencies in formal language skills make it difficult for some students to recognize the appropriate use of language in context, so that elements of slang often creep into academic situations, such as in class discussions and assignment writing. This study concludes that formal language skills have an impact on the use of slang. Students with high formal language skills tend to be better at switching between language varieties according to context, while those with low formal skills are at greater risk of mixing them up.

This research is motivated by changes in students' academic communication patterns due to the rapid development of digital technology, which has the potential to affect the consistency of formal language use. In academic literacy, formal language plays a crucial role as a marker of professionalism and the accuracy of scientific communication. This study aims to analyze the shift in formal language use in students' academic communication and identify the factors influencing it in the digital era. The research method used a qualitative approach with a descriptive design. Data were collected through an online questionnaire in the form of open-ended questions to students at the University of Muhammadiyah Maumere who actively use digital media in academic communication. Data were analyzed by grouping respondents' answers and identifying language usage patterns. The results show that students understand the differences between formal and informal language, but their application in digital academic communication is not yet consistent. The shift is characterized by the use of abbreviations, slang, and inconsistencies in linguistic rules influenced by instant communication habits, social environments, and the nature of digital media. This study examines the denotative and connotative meanings in Mahmoud Darwish's poem "Fakkir Bighairik" using a semantic approach. Language as a sign system has a primary function in conveying meaning, and poetry is the medium of linguistic expression richest in such meaning. Darwish's poem, through dense diction, depicts empathy, humanity, and the struggle of the Palestinian people by inviting readers to "think of the other." This study uses a descriptive-qualitative method with library techniques, where data is taken from the text of Fakkir Bighairik's poem and analyzed based on the theory of denotative and connotative meaning. The results show that the denotative meaning in this poem conveys a direct and straightforward message, while the connotative meaning provides emotional, social, and moral depth that strengthens the humanitarian message. The combination of these two meanings creates a poetic effect that awakens readers' awareness of solidarity and universal human values. In addition, this poem also invites readers to reflect on their role in the humanitarian struggle and reminds them of the importance of fighting for human rights amidst conflict.

This research is entitled "Syair Ghayati Karya Karya Ibrahim Tuqan (Study of 'Arudh Science)" which aims to analyze the ghayati poetry by the Palestinian poet Ibrahim Tuqan using the science of 'arudh. The main focus of this research is to identify the patterns or bahr syi'riyyah used in the poetry and examine the various changes that appear in it. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method because the object of study is a literary text that is analyzed in depth, then the results are presented in the form of a narrative description. The data sources for this research were obtained through literature studies by reviewing books, journals, and other relevant documents. Based on the results of the analysis, Ibrahim Tuqan's ghayati poetry uses the raml majzu' pattern as the basic structure of the poetry. In addition, changes were also found in the form of zihaf khabn and zihaf 'illah which occurred in several parts of the verse, although there was no 'illah found in the entire poetry. Thus, this research shows how the application of the science of 'arudh can reveal the beauty and dynamics in classical Arabic literary works.

The use of effective sentences in academic communication is essential, especially in essay writing that contains various legal arguments. Essays should employ proper sentence structures to clearly conver ideas and persuade readers. This study aims to analyze ineffective sentence constructions found in the Kumpulan Esai Kritis NACE Competition 2021 published on thr LK2 FHUI website as educational reading material. The research method used is descriptive qualitative and theoretical. Data collection was carried out using observation and note-taking techniques by analyzing various types of errors in the essay texts. The data collection process followed four steps: (1) data collection, (2) data analysis, (3) discussion, and (4) conculusion and recommendation. The results show that many ineffective sentences are still found in the essays, such as punctuation errors, wordiness, inappropriate use of foreign terms, improper word choices, and excessive repetition. These errors negatively impact the clarity and persuasiveness of the messages and arguments within the essays. This research is expected to contribute to improving essay writing quality and the development of more effective academic literacy.

Development of a Canva-Based Informatics E-book on ICT Material for Grade X at SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda. This research aims to determine the feasibility of a product in the form of an E-book as a learning medium and to assess the response toward the Canva-based Informatics E-book for Grade X students at SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda. This study employs a Research and Development (R&D) method with the PPE model, which consists of three stages: Planning, Production, and Evaluation. The research subjects involved 35 students from Grade X (I) at SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda, along with 3 media experts and 1 material expert. The research object is the Canva-based Informatics E-book on ICT material. The results showed that the development of the Canva-based E-book, as evaluated by 3 media expert validators, obtained a percentage score of 92.19%, which falls into the “Highly Feasible” category. The Evaluation conducted by 1 material expert achieved a percentage score of 100%, also in the “Highly Feasible” category. Furthermore, students’ responses to the product were measured and obtained an average percentage score of 82.57%, which falls into the “Very Interesting” category. Thus, the development of the Canva-based E-book on ICT material for Grade X at SMA Negeri 5 Samarinda, developed using the PPE model, is declared highly feasible based on media and material expert validation and very interesting based on students’ responses.

The purpose of this article is to explain the values ​​of Islamic religious education contained in the Ari Ana Mahun tradition in the people of Negeri Kilkoda, Gorom Island District, East Seram Regency. A unique tradition called Ari Ana Mahun or children's maulid is found in Negeri Kilkoda, Gorom Islands, East Seram Regency. Different from the usual commemoration of the Prophet Muhammad's birthday, this tradition is carried out 15 days before the month of Ramadan as a form of respect for children or family members who have died. The community believes that prayers and prepared food will make the spirits happy, as well as being a medium for maintaining Islamic cultural heritage. This tradition is carried out once a year and is passed down from generation to generation. In addition to being a form of respect, Ari Ana Mahun is a means of education for the community to preserve Islamic traditions and strengthen religious values. These values ​​are instilled from generation to generation so that the community maintains their cultural and spiritual identity. This paper aims to describe the values ​​of Islamic education contained in it. The research uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of collection, reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results indicate that this tradition involves determining the date, preparing traditional food, visiting graves, decorating the containers, reciting prayers together, giving alms to children, and planting a raung (a symbol of Islam) at the graves. The Islamic educational values ​​contained include monotheism, worship, morals, silaturahmi (silaturahmi), instilling religious values ​​from an early age, and preserving Islamic culture.

This study aims to analyze the use of italics and capital letters in the novel Hati Suhita by Khilma Anis based on the General Guidelines for Indonesian Spelling (PUEBI). This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with text analysis techniques on quotations in the novel that contain italics and capital letters. The results of the study indicate that there are various forms of inconsistencies in the use of italics, especially in words in regional languages ​​(Javanese), foreign terms, and non-standard words that are not italicized as they should be. Meanwhile, errors in the use of capital letters were found in the form of inappropriate capitalization of common nouns, greetings, and after punctuation that does not start a new sentence. Of the total data analyzed, more than half of the quotations showed deviations from applicable spelling rules. These errors have an impact on the clarity of meaning, stylistic nuances, and readers' perceptions of the narrative structure. This study emphasizes the importance of spelling accuracy in literary works, not only as a technical aspect, but also as part of the rhetorical and aesthetic power of the text. These findings are expected to be a reference in editing literary works and teaching Indonesian based on spelling.

This study aims to examine the figurative meanings in the poem "Guru" by Muhammad Asqalani eNeSTe through a semantic approach. The poem portrays the struggle and dedication of a teacher who devotes themselves to serving in a remote area with deep love and sacrifice. This research adopts a qualitative method with content analysis techniques by conducting a document study of the poem's text. The analysis reveals that the poem is rich in figurative language, including metaphor, personification, hyperbole, metonymy, synecdoche, and simile. Each of these figures of speech is employed to depict the social, emotional, and spiritual conditions of the teacher and the environment in which they serve. The use of figurative meaning in the poem not only beautifies the language but also strengthens the moral messages, educational values, and appreciation of the teaching profession. By understanding these figurative meanings, readers can grasp deeper humanistic and simplicity values embedded in the realm of education.
