This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of the marginalization of the Indonesian language in the digital public sphere and its implications for the sustainability of national identity. Amid the tide of globalization and technological advancements, the use of foreign languages and mixed languages is increasingly dominating communication on social media, potentially displacing the Indonesian language’s role as a symbol of national identity. This study employs a netnographic method, which allows for the observation of natural and contextual language interactions on digital platforms such as TikTok and Instagram. This approach was chosen because it captures authentic language practices as well as the social meanings behind language use within online communities. The results indicate that the marginalization of Indonesian in the digital public sphere is marked by high levels of foreign language use, code-mixing, and a shift in language preferences among the younger generation influenced by factors such as prestige, globalization, and popular culture. This phenomenon not only impacts linguistic aspects but also implies a weakening of national identity as a nation founded on a unifying language. Nevertheless, the digital public sphere also has the potential to serve as a means of strengthening identity if Indonesian is used consistently and adaptively. Therefore, strategic efforts are needed through language policy, education, and digital literacy to ensure the continued vitality of the Indonesian language. This study is expected to make theoretical and practical contributions to the development of sociolinguistic research and the strengthening of national identity in the digital age.

This study aims to examine the representation of the relationship between humans and the environment through natural symbolism in Ernest Hemingway novel The Old Man and the Sea. This novel was chosen because it depicts nature not merely as a setting for the story, but as a meaningful entity that forms a complex relationship with the main character, Santiago. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method using Greg Garrard ecocritical approach. The research data consists of textual quotations containing natural symbolism such as the sea, birds, fish, sharks, the sun, and stars obtained through close reading and note-taking. Data analysis was conducted by identifying symbols of nature, interpreting their symbolic meanings, and classifying the forms of human-environment relationships based on Garrard ecocritical themes, namely the pastoral, animals, and wilderness. The results of the study indicate that the symbolism of nature in the novel represents three forms of human-environment relations: kinship, ambivalence, and conflict. Kinship is characterised by emotional closeness and the recognition of nature as an integral part of human life. Ambivalence arises from the dilemma between respect for nature and the human need for survival. Meanwhile, conflictual relationships are depicted through the power of the wild, which underscores human limitations. This study concludes that the novel The Old Man and the Sea represents the relationship between humans and the environment as a dynamic, ethical, and non-anthropocentric one

This study examines the influence of standard (baku) and non-standard (informal) Indonesian language in prompt construction on the response style and structure generated by ChatGPT. The proliferation of generative AI in Indonesia presents a gap: most users interact with AI using everyday informal language, while the effect on AI response characteristics remains understudied. Using a comparative qualitative approach, two prompt variants formal standard language and informal non-standard language were tested on an identical object: an internet service package (HOME ODS, 100 Mbps, Rp150,000/month). Responses were evaluated across five dimensions: structure, completeness, analytical depth, register alignment, and practical utility. Findings show that formal-language prompts yield more hierarchically organized and elaborated responses, while informal prompts elicit concise, conversational responses marked by emoji and colloquial tone. Both prompt types produced substantively comparable information, indicating that language variety primarily shapes response style rather than content depth. These findings suggest ChatGPT adapts its register to match user input, a behavior consistent with statistical pattern prediction inherent to large language models (LLMs). Implications for Indonesian language education and AI literacy are discussed.

Gastronomy is not merely understood as an act of consumption but also as a cultural system that reflects the social identity, history, and geographical conditions of a society. This study analyzes German gastronomy as a representation of cultural identity through three main elements: Bratwurst, Brotkultur, and Bierkultur. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review of gastronomic studies, European food culture research, and academic sources on the history of German cuisine. The analysis is conducted by situating food within historical, geographical, and socio-cultural frameworks to examine the formation of culinary identity. The findings indicate that these three elements do not represent a homogeneous identity; rather, they are the result of cultural constructions rooted in regional diversity and historical processes, including commercialization and traditional regulations such as the Reinheitsgebot. Therefore, German gastronomy functions as a medium for articulating cultural identity, shaped through the interaction of history, geography, and social dynamics.

This study aims to analyze the moral values represented in the Pinocchio film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. The research focuses on moral values portrayed through dialogues, visual symbols, conflicts, and character development throughout the story. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method with a narrative analysis approach. The data were collected through audiovisual observation and documentation of important scenes related to moral values in the film. The analysis used the moral values theory proposed by Thomas Lickona as the grand theory, supported by children’s literature theory from Burhan Nurgiyantoro and the concept of moral imagination by Vigen Guroian. The results show that the film represents four main moral values: honesty, responsibility, courage, and sacrifice. These values are depicted through Pinocchio’s moral journey from a naïve wooden puppet into a “real boy.” The study concludes that Pinocchio (1940) is not only an entertainment medium but also an effective visual children’s literature work in conveying moral messages that remain relevant to contemporary audiences.

This study aims to analyze rhetoric on the social media account @JeromePolin in constructing an educational and inspirational self-image. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data consisted of video uploads, captions, and visual communication on the @JeromePolin account selected purposively. Data collection techniques included observation and documentation, while data analysis used Aristotle’s rhetorical theory consisting of ethos, pathos, and logos. The findings show that the ethos element is reflected through academic credibility, consistency in educational content, and an authentic communication style that strengthens audience trust. The pathos element appears through personal narratives, humor, and motivational messages that create emotional closeness and engagement with audiences, making the communication more relatable and persuasive. Meanwhile, the logos element is demonstrated through logical, systematic, and understandable educational content delivery that helps audiences easily grasp complex information. The integration of these rhetorical elements forms an effective persuasive communication strategy in constructing Jerome Polin’s self-image as an educational and inspirational figure on social media. Overall, the combination of ethos, pathos, and logos shows how digital communication can shape public perception and reinforce the role of social media influencers in promoting educational values in contemporary society.
