The Relationship Between The Husband's Role and the Success of The Breastfeeding Process at The TPMB Bdn. Neneng Banjarmasin

Background: The success of breastfeeding is influenced not only by the mother’s knowledge and skills but also by the support provided by the husband. Studies in Indonesia indicate that husbands who actively participate in the breastfeeding process can enhance maternal confidence, reduce stress, and improve exclusive breastfeeding rates (Nursalam, 2020; Astutik, 2019). The husband’s role includes providing emotional support, assisting with childcare, encouraging the mother to breastfeed, and participating in health education activities. Despite health promotion efforts, some mothers still face challenges in achieving exclusive breastfeeding due to limited family support. Understanding the relationship between the husband’s role and breastfeeding success is essential for improving maternal and infant health outcomes. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between the husband’s role and the success of the breastfeeding process at TPMB Bdn. Neneng Banjarmasin. Methods: This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 breastfeeding mothers selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using structured questionnaires to assess the husband’s role and observation sheets to evaluate the breastfeeding process. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to determine the statistical relationship between the husband’s role and breastfeeding success. Results: The results showed that 30 respondents (100%) received good support from their husbands, and 30 respondents (100%) successfully carried out the breastfeeding process. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant relationship between the husband’s role and breastfeeding success. These findings suggest that the husband’s involvement directly contributes to the effectiveness of breastfeeding practices. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between the husband’s role and the success of the breastfeeding process at TPMB Bdn. Neneng Banjarmasin. Active husband involvement enhances maternal motivation and confidence, thereby promoting successful breastfeeding. Strengthening family support, particularly the husband’s role, is essential for achieving exclusive breastfeeding targets. Health promotion programs should include strategies to educate and engage husbands in maternal and infant care.
