This activity emerged from the inspiration and desire of the writers to improve the English language skills of students in the neighborhood where the writers live, namely neighborhood V, Sei Putih Barat sub-district, Medan Petisah District, North Sumatra Province, who basically still have difficulties in understanding the language. English, especially in the Vocabulary aspect, is why the authors held this activity with the hope that students will have good knowledge after participating in this activity. Community Service (PKM) is an integral aspect of community progress and sustainable development. By actively engaging in community-based initiatives, individuals, organizations and institutions contribute to addressing social problems, building trust and fostering social cohesion. This activity involved around 20 students ranging in age from 8 - 12 years. This activity will be carried out for around 3 days, namely 17 – 19 November 2022 with a duration of 90 minutes/session. The song titles used are (1) Hokey Pokey, (2) 10 little Indians, (3) Head shoulders knees and toes, (4) Bingo, (5) Good Morning, (6) ABC, (7) Old Mc Donald had a farm, (8) London bridge is falling down, (9) There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, (10) There was an old lady who swallowed a fly, (11) 10 green bottles, (12) If you 're happy and you know it. After carrying out this activity, the students showed an increase in vocabulary, it was seen that they were able to fill in the blanks to complete the song after listening to it several times.

Mengingat pendidikan karakter akan berjalan dengan baik jika sistem pendidikan nasional mendapat dukungan yang baik, maka nilai-nilai dalam pendidikan karakter dapat dilaksanakan secara berbeda berdasarkan metode pengajaran guru. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi guru bahasa Inggris SMP dan SMA dalam menyampaikan nilai-nilai karakter dalam pembelajarannya di sebuah sekolah swasta di wilayah Bandung. Dengan menggunakan desain penelitian kualitatif melalui kuesioner, wawancara dalam pengumpulan data, penelitian ini menghasilkan bahwa sebagian besar guru di sekolah menengah telah menerapkan pembentukan nilai karakter dalam cara mereka mengajar, dalam berbagai kegiatan di kelas. Kesimpulannya, meskipun implementasi dari implementasi character building bisa berbeda-beda untuk setiap guru bahasa Inggris, dan kemajuannya tidak dapat diketahui secara instan, upaya tersebut telah dilakukan secara efektif. Oleh karena itu, guru harus terus-menerus mengubah cara mengajarnya agar siswa tidak benar-benar “sadar” bahwa karakter mereka dibangun secara singkat, dan mengabaikannya sebagai pendidikan nilai yang diacu.

The purpose of the study was to identify the most common types of code mixing employed by the teacher at SMP Negeri 14 Baubau, as well as the justifications for doing so. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach. One of the English teachers at SMP Negeri 14 Baubau was the subject. Interviews and observation were used as the data collection methods. Data reduction, data visualization, and conclusion drawing/data verification were the three data analysis techniques used in this study. Based on the results of this study, the teacher at SMP Negeri 14 Baubau employed insertion, alternation, and congruent lexicalization as three different methods of code mixing. The most common type of code mixing used was alternation. The results of the interview session revealed that the instructor at SMP Negeri 14 Baubau mixed codes when teaching English in the classroom because of the students' poor English proficiency and habit. It made it simpler for students to comprehend the lessons that the teacher was conveying or explaining by using code mixing when teaching English.

This research aims to know the ability of the respondents in the VIII Class of SMPN 1 Badar in writing descriptive text and difficulties in writing descriptive text. The research employed qualitative research methods to find out what respondents’ challanges in writing descriptive text. The particpants of this reseacrh were 123 respondents which using Krejcie and Morgan. This research using test to see the respondents’ ability in writing descriptive text. The research data was collected through test with using rubrics; content, organization, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanics. The result of the data showed that many factors cause students to experience ptoblems in writing, especially in writing descriptive text. The average 45,02 of total respondents’ ability that indicated that only few of the respondents understood about the descriptive text. There were only 3 respondents who got the highest scores and the scores were 75 and 71,25. And only one respondents who got the score 75 from the total sampling were 123. It means that only 0,81% respondents have achieved the school KKM score of 75. However, there were 24 respondents who got the lowest scores and the scores were 32,5. Respondents have a low ability to write a descriptive text. Most respondents do not understand about how to write descriptive text and still confusing how to make it into English.This research found that each respondents had a different ability in writing descriptive text. This suggested that teacher could improve their teaching skill in the descriptive text in an interesting way.

The purpose of this study was to determine the teacher's strategy in teaching speaking. The problem in this study is that students feel unconfident in speaking English and also have a limited vocabulary. This type of research is called qualitative research. The sample for this study is the MTSN 8 Agam teacher. The instruments used in this study were observations and interviews. The results of this study, the strategies used by teachers in teaching speaking are drill, roleplay, simulation, and group discussion.

The purpose of this research was to determine the effect of using picture series on students' speaking skill. The researcher had done at MTSS Nagari Binjai. The problems in this research was caused by several factors. Firstly, students paid less attention to the English teacher. Secondly, they were afraid of making mistake to express ideas. In this research a quasi-experimental design was used by the researcher. The researcher used pre-test and post-test to experimental and control class. The sample was 2A as experimental class and taught by using picture series and 2B as control class and taught without using picture series. To determine the sample, the experimental and control class, the researcher utilized SPSS 20 to examine the data and check for normality and homogeneity. The researcher utilized the t-test formula to test the hypothesis and consulted the results in a t-table with level of significance of 0.05. It was found that there was a significant effect of using picture series toward students speaking skill. Then there was a significant difference between students who were taught using picture series and those who were taught without them. The value of t-calculated in the post-test from the experimental and control classes was greater than the t-table (3.4 > 2.021). The last hypothesis was that teaching with picture series was superior than teaching without picture series in terms of improving students' speaking skill. In the post-test, the mean score of the experimental class was greater than the control class (8.10 > 2.54).

This research is entitled “Students' Perception On the Use of YouTube to Develop Their Vocabulary”. The objective of the research is to identify, classify and describe the ways English Students use YouTube to develop their Vocabulary. It is also to analyze and describe students' perception on using YouTube to develop their vocabulary. This research used descriptive quantitative method. The research collected the data using questionnaires and interviews. The sample was 30 students' from the 2022 batch of English Department Faculty of Humanities. Thirty students' responses were collected by online questionnaire with google-form and answers collected by online interview with Whatsapp. The collected data were quantitatively analyzed by percentage formula. Using theory Freeman and Anderson (2011: 250) and to analyze the university students' perception about the use of YouTube to develop their vocabulary base on the theory of Nelson-Smith (2008:32). The results showed that most of the respondents had positive responses about the use of YouTube to develop their vocabulary. Since YouTube can be used both as providing teaching resources and enhancing learning experience. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that University students have positive perceptions on the use of YouTube in the use of media YouTube is considered useful to students, English Department, Sam Ratulangi University Since YouTube can be used both as providing teaching resources and enhancing learning experience. Both teachers and students must adjust to the new teaching strategy, despite all limitations and chances in remote learning during the pandemic. To accomplish the learning objectives, educators must create their courses by utilizing the advantages of technology. In order to optimize students' learning potential, several things had to be taken into account when designing such a remote course. In order to address the issue, this study aimed to demonstrate how the English for Academic Reading course in Universitas ‘Aisyiyah Yogyakarta was developed using the ASSURE (Analyze Learners; State Objectives; Select Method, Media, or Materials; Utilize Media or Materials; Require Learners' Participation; Evaluate and Revise) model in the form of fully-online flipped classroom. The data was gathered through observation and library study. The obstacles and opportunities addressed by both educators and students throughout the remote learning practice were analyzed using a qualitative methodology. The course was developed by mixing synchronous and asynchronous class activities after taking the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning into account. The design included independent learning, content explanations, quizzes, class discussion, and collecting student assessment. Students were shown to be more motivated to study when synchronous and asynchronous class activities were used, according to the evaluations.

This program took place from February 21 to 23, 2022, in the XVIII neighborhood, Binjai Village, Denai District, Medan Regency/City, North Sumatra Province. The program is designed for children aged 8-12, and the materials taught include Simple Present Tense and several songs that utilize Simple Present Tense. The duration of each session is 90 minutes. The number of children involved is approximately ten (10) individuals. Each session is divided into two parts, the first 45 minutes facilitated by Teacher A, and the remaining 45 minutes continued by Teacher B, and so on until the third day. Upon completion of this program, the children showed significant improvement in listening skills, vocabulary recall, and vocabulary memorization, as reflected in the test scores given by the instructors before and after the program. Learning through English songs has proven to be highly effective for children in the XVIII neighborhood, Binjai Village, Denai District. The use of songs as a teaching method helps enhance listening abilities, learn new vocabulary, develop speaking skills, and improve social skills in children. Therefore, incorporating songs into early English language learning is highly recommended.

When learning English, especially vocabulary for young learners, it's a good idea to use media that can capture children's attention. However, using media is not always possible or realistic for a teacher in the classroom because the use of media depends on the learning material to be conveyed to students. In teaching vocabulary, songs can be used as a good way to introduce new vocabulary to students, so that they can understand words or lessons easily and clearly. Songs that can contain information, such as words or numbers, either in one stanza or the entire song and are used in class or private study. Before this lesson, the vocabulary of students, especially about human body parts and also the names of animals in English is very limited. After this lesson, the vocabulary of students will increase, especially the vocabulary of human body parts and also the names of animals in English. It is proven that the additional learning obtained through community service activities carried out by the author can improve students' English skills, especially students' English vocabulary.
