This study aims to analyze and compare the cabin noise levels of the Mitsubishi Destinator Ultimate variant (sunroof) and Exceed variant (non-sunroof) under various driving speed conditions. Measurements were conducted using a Sound Level Meter inside the cabin at idle, 10, 30, 50, 70, 90, and 100 km/h. Results indicate that the Ultimate (sunroof) variant consistently produces higher noise levels than the Exceed (non-sunroof) variant across all speed variations. The largest noise difference was recorded at 100 km/h at 6.50 dB, while the smallest occurred at idle at 0.05 dB. Noise levels in both variants increased significantly with increasing speed, with the sunroof variant reaching 70.00 dB and the non-sunroof variant reaching 63.50 dB at 100 km/h. This difference is attributed to gaps and seals in the sunroof panel, which allow greater noise penetration from the external environment.

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of peripheral vertigo, characterized by brief episodes of vertigo due to otoconia displacement. Although most previous studies have focused on intrinsic factors such as age, gender, osteoporosis, and metabolic disorders, evidence regarding the role of environmental factors, particularly occupational noise exposure, is limited. Chronic noise has the potential to affect vestibular function through both sensory and vascular mechanisms. This study aims to narratively review the effect of occupational noise exposure on the risk of BPPV by integrating clinical, epidemiological, and experimental findings. The method used is a literature-based narrative review of the PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases without year restrictions, using the keywords "BPPV", "occupational noise exposure", "vestibular dysfunction", "VEMP", and "otoconia displacement". The search results obtained 25 relevant articles linking BPPV to otolith, hormonal, vascular, lifestyle factors, and occupational noise exposure. The results indicate that chronic noise can cause sensory damage (otoconia and vestibular hair cells), vascular disorders (hypertension, cardiovascular disorders, and inner ear microvascular circulation disorders), and exacerbate lifestyle comorbidities (sedentary lifestyle, osteoporosis, hypertension, diabetes). The discussion confirms that these multifactorial mechanisms explain the susceptibility of industrial workers to BPPV despite normal hearing function. The conclusion of this study is that workplace noise exposure has been shown to play a significant role as a risk factor for BPPV, therefore, prevention strategies, vestibular health monitoring, and healthy lifestyle interventions need to be optimized in occupational health programs.

An exhaust pipe is a tubular device used to channel combustion gases from a vehicle’s engine into the environment. In addition to this primary function, the exhaust also serves to reduce the noise level produced by engine combustion. The component of the exhaust system that significantly affects torque, brake mean effective pressure (BMEP), and noise level is the silencer. This study aims to compare the torque, BMEP, and noise levels produced by variations in the length and construction dimensions of elliptical filter designs in the silencer. The silencers used in this research have lengths of 280 mm, 300 mm, and 260 mm, with short ellipse filter diameters of 25 mm and long ellipse filter diameters of 30 mm, 40 mm, and 50 mm. The research employs an experimental quantitative method, and the data were analyzed using one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The experiment was conducted in a Mechanical Engineering workshop using a Yamaha R15 V3 155cc injection motorcycle (2021), a Super Dyno 50L dyno test, and a sound level meter, from February to April 2024. Automatic transmission motorcycles, especially those with 110cc engines, are increasingly in demand by the public because of their practicality. The performance of this motorcycle is greatly influenced by the transmission system, especially the Drive pulley and Roller components. The correct setting of the Drive pulley angle and Roller mass can improve engine performance and reduce noise, thus supporting driving comfort. This study aims to analyze the effect of variations in the Drive pulley angle and Roller mass on engine performance, in terms of power (HP), torque (Nm), and noise level (dB) at several engine speeds. The variations tested include the Drive pulley angle of 13.5°–14° and the Roller mass of 13–15 grams, with testing at 5000, 6000, 7000, and 8000 RPM. The test results show that the combination of the angle and Roller mass affects engine performance. At 5000 RPM, the combination of the 14° angle and 15 gram Roller produces the highest power, torque, and noise. At 6000 RPM, the combination of 13.8° and 13 grams produces a maximum power of 6.86 HP and 8.15 Nm of torque, with a noise of 97.40 dB. While at 7000–8000 RPM, the combination of 13.5° and 15 grams provides the best performance with 7.10 HP and 6.30 Nm of torque, accompanied by a noise of 104.17 dB. In general, increasing the angle and mass of the Roller increases performance, but is followed by an increase in noise.

Noise generated by Diesel Power Plants (PLTD) is a significant environmental problem, especially in urban areas and settlements adjacent to power plant facilities. This study analyzes the noise level around the Fakfak Cotton Plant and its impact on the local community. This study uses a combination of methods, including noise level measurements using a Sound Level Meter (SLM), field observations, interviews with the community, and a SWOT analysis to evaluate the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in noise mitigation. The measurement results show that the noise level generated exceeds the threshold of 55 dBA set by the Decree of the Minister of Environment Number 48 of 1996 for residential areas. This condition has a negative impact on the comfort, health, and social interaction of the community around the PLTD location, causing sleep disturbances, stress, and decreased quality of life. The SWOT analysis shows that although the PLTD has advantages in terms of sustainable operations and professional workers, the main weaknesses lie in the lack of soundproofing and the absence of regular noise evaluations. However, there is a great opportunity in the application of noise mitigation technologies, such as the installation of soundproofing, the use of acoustic walls, and planting vegetation as a sound barrier. In addition, collaboration with local governments and increasing environmental awareness can help manage noise impacts more effectively. The main threats identified include potential social conflicts with surrounding communities, negative health impacts, and changes in environmental policies that can affect PLTD operations. With the right mitigation strategies, such as the application of soundproofing technologies, improved communication with the community, and better integration of environmental policies, the environment around PLTDs can become more comfortable and conducive for the community. This study emphasizes the importance of regulatory and technology-based approaches in managing noise in urban environments, as well as the need for sustainable mitigation measures to maintain the well-being of communities around PLTDs..

Noise in educational environments can affect the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes. This study aims to analyze the impact of traffic noise on teaching and learning activities in Building V of Semarang University, located along the Soekarno-Hatta arterial road. The research method uses a qualitative descriptive approach by measuring noise levels using a Sound Level Meter on six floors of the building. Measurements were taken during active lecture hours with time intervals of 3 x 30 minutes. The results showed that noise levels on floors 1 to 3 were above the educational environment quality standard of 55 dB according to KepMenLH No. 48 of 1996. Meanwhile, on the 6th floor, the noise level averaged around 55 dB. Excessive noise makes it difficult for students to hear lecturers' explanations, reduces their ability to capture information, and decreases learning material retention. To address these issues, sound insulation installation, spatial planning improvements by designing room layouts farther from noise sources, vegetation planting, and lecture rescheduling to avoid peak traffic times are necessary.

Noise can be defined as a sound or noise that can disturb comfort and health and can cause deafness. Noise that occurs continuously with high intensity can unconsciously affect the health of the Crew (ABK) who are on duty on the ship. Health problems can occur because the ABK are required to be in the ship's engine room which can last a very long time according to the route of the ship's voyage. This study aims to determine and analyze the noise in the engine room and accommodation room on the ferry. The data analysis technique used in this study is noise measurement and analysis of measurement data. The results of the study showed that there was 1 room on the MT. Suchaonugnum ship that did not meet the standards of the Indonesian Classification Bureau and MSC.337(91), including the engine control room. The highest noise source produced in the engine room is produced by the auxiliary engine. While in the lounge room, passenger accommodation room and VIP Room the highest sound source is produced by the sound system. The sound system that is always turned on when the ship is operating is one of the sources of noise that makes the noise level in the passenger accommodation room not in accordance with the MSC.337(91) standard because the sound pressure is too high. The noise level in the passenger accommodation space can be overcome by reducing the sound pressure on the sound system.

Construction work is one of the jobs that has various high risks for workers and people who are around it. These risks come from various sources, one of which is noise from various equipment and ongoing activities. One of the jobs that cause high noise in construction work is MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) work. Based on Permenaker Number 13 Year 2011, the Threshold Value (NAB) for noise that can be accepted by workers is 85 dBA for 8 hours a day. Based on the measurement of the construction of the flats, the MEP work in the form of Beam Separator Elevator Installation, Pipe Fabrication, Electrical Wiring Lighting Installation, as well as Welding and Grinding of Iron Pipe causes noise above the NAB. The highest noise comes from pipe fabrication in the form of iron pipe cutting activities using large grinding tools and bevel machines that produce noise of 107 dBA. From the Daily Noise Dose (DND) calculation, the noise generated from MEP work has a dangerous risk level for workers' hearing. Risk control efforts that can be done are preventive actions based on the K3 hierarchy in the form of administrative controls such as changing working hours or shifts and conducting safety talks before work is carried out. In addition, another preventive measure is the use of PPE such as ear plugs. Based on the calculation of the noise reduction level, the use of ear plugs has not reduced the noise level to reach the NAB, so it is recommended that workers in pipe fabrication work use ear muffs to reduce noise exposure.
