This study aims to describe Sundanese language learning discourse in the eleventh grade at SMA Negeri 8 Bandung city based on the components of learning discourse. The study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation using the non-participatory observation method (SBLC) and recording techniques. The data consisted of recorded utterances during Sundanese language learning activities, which were then transcribed into written form. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and hermeneutic techniques. The results showed that the learning process consisted of opening, core, and closing activities using the Cooperative Learning model. The components of learning discourse identified included opening and closing conversations, participant cooperation, speech acts, and the nature of utterance sequences. The interaction demonstrated the use of quantity and quality maxims, locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts, as well as chained utterance sequences in the form of question-and-answer interactions between teacher and students. This research is part of the study of pragmatics, namely illocutionary speech acts. This research focuses on explaining illocutionary speech acts contained in the novel by Nawal El Saadawi entitled Perempuan di Titik Nol. The analysis of speech acts prioritizes language through its actual speakers. Illocutionary speech acts are defined as speech acts that contain intent and function or speech power. In an illocutionary speech act, the utterance gives rise to an action. Illocutionary speech acts are divided into five types, namely assertive, directive, expressive, declarative, and commissive illocutionary speech acts. The data obtained for this research are conversational utterances containing elements of illocutionary speech acts in the novel Perempuan di Titik Nol by Nawal El Saadawi. The research approach uses two methods, namely a pragmatic theoretical approach and a qualitative descriptive methodological approach. In collecting data, the researcher applied the listening method with advanced techniques of free listening and note-taking techniques. Meanwhile, for data analysis, the pragmatic equivalent method was used with formal and informal methods as a form of presentation of the data presented. The research results found 147 utterances containing illocutionary speech acts in this novel.

This study aims to examine pragmatic aspects, particularly speech acts and implicatures, in the lyrics of the song “Sedia Aku Sebelum Hujan” by Idgitaf. By applying a qualitative descriptive method through pragmatic content analysis techniques, this study examines locutionary, illocutionary, and perlocutionary speech acts based on Austin's theory, as well as conversational implicatures based on Grice's framework. The results show that the song lyrics are dominated by expressive and commissive illocutionary acts that serve to express sacrifice, vulnerability, and unconditional commitment. Locutionary acts play a role in constructing a literal narrative about protection and relationship inequality, while perlocutionary acts are aimed at evoking feelings of security and gratitude in the listener. Furthermore, the study of implicature reveals deeper implied meanings related to self-sacrifice, acceptance of inequality in relationships, and anticipatory commitment, which are often conveyed through the metaphors of “rain” and “war”. This study concludes that the power of lyrics lies not only in explicit romantic expressions, but also in the strategic use of language to perform actions and convey implicit values of devotion, reflecting the complex dynamics of human relationships, even when they are unbalanced. These findings emphasize the importance of pragmatic analysis in fully understanding the communicative and artistic impact of song lyrics.

Sarcasm is a literary device and one of the most expressive forms of figurative language, often used to convey humor, criticism, or emotional tension in both daily conversation and literature. This study explores the use of sarcasm in William Shakespeare‟s Much Ado About Nothing by applying Elizabeth Camp‟s (2011) typology, which classifies sarcasm into four types: propositional, lexical, illocutionary, and like-prefixed sarcasm. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the researchers collected all sarcastic utterances from the play, classified them according to Camp‟s framework, and analyzed their pragmatic functions in the dramatic context. The findings reveal a total of 50 sarcastic utterances, with propositional sarcasm being the most frequent (42%), followed by illocutionary sarcasm (28%), lexical sarcasm (24%), and like-prefixed sarcasm (6%). These results indicate that sarcasm serves as both a comedic and dramatic device, shaping character interactions, driving conflicts, and reinforcing Elizabethan cultural norms. Beatrice and Benedick‟s witty verbal duels exemplify how sarcasm fosters humor and intimacy, while Claudio‟s sarcasm highlights themes of honor and social tension. Overall, the study demonstrates that sarcasm in Shakespeare‟s play is not merely humorous banter but a sophisticated rhetorical strategy that enhances characterization, thematic depth, and audience engagement.

Here, it is examined how language is employed as a weapon on the internet by means of the illocutionary acts in Bhad Bhabie's 2023 diss track "Ms. Whitman." According to J.L. Austin's and John Searle's Speech Act Theory, the paper categorizes the lyrics of the song into the various kinds of illocutionary acts-assertives, directives, commissives, expressives, and declaratives to determine how word aggression is an instrument of cyberbullying. Through qualitative text analysis, the study reveals expressive and assertive acts most prominent in the lyrics to disseminate defamatory claims, insults, and emotional harm against the object of attack Alabama Barker. Commissive and directive acts, on the other hand, serve to threaten, command, and dominate. The analysis shows how these speech acts collectively construct a model of systematic online verbal attack under the guise of musical performance. The findings show how music culture will tend to normalize aggression, make boundaries between entertainment and harassment opaque, and place audiences' understanding of digital communication ethics. The conclusion synthesizes the recommendation of media education as a means to enable listeners to critically understand the linguistic power of such content.

This paper explores the use of Milton's Language Pattern Model in English Language Teaching (ELT) advertisements on Instagram. Drawing upon Ellerton's (2006) Milton Model framework and Searle's (1969) Speech Act Theory, with a specific focus on illocutionary acts, this research aims to identify the types of Milton Model patterns present in these advertisements and analyse how they are utilized to influence potential learners. Qualitative content analysis was applied to 30 ELT advertisements from Indonesian Instagram accounts. The results show that 15 out of 20 Milton Model language patterns have been identified, accumulating 78 instances. There were four patterns that become the most common patterns, which are Universal Quantifier (13%), Pace Current Experience (13%), Presupposition (12%), and Unspecified Verb (12%). The findings of the present study demonstrate that advertisers use of Milton Model language patterns in order to implicitly make claims, develop connections with their audience, and guide the audience to the direction of desired actions. This is accomplished by using vagueness, emotional connection, and assumed truths to enhance the persuasive impact, while also utilizing linguistic functions as assertive and directive illocutionary acts. This research expands a valuable insight by uniquely integrating the analysis of Milton Model language patterns with illocutionary functions as assertive and directive acts and specific advertising objectives, offering a novel, multi-layered framework for understanding digital persuasion in the English Language Teaching (ELT).
