This study aims to describe the implementation of ecobrick activities as an environmentally friendly initiative and as a strategy to enhance fine motor development in early childhood aged 4-6 years in Jatirejo Village, Pasuruan Regency. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, documentation, and hands-on ecobrick practice. The findings indicate that the ecobrick process-which includes collecting plastic waste, washing, drying, cutting, inserting plastic pieces into bottles, and compressing the contents-effectively improves children’s fine motor skills, particularly in hand-eye coordination, finger strength, accuracy, and cutting ability. Children demonstrated positive responses, including high enthusiasm, curiosity, and increased awareness of environmental preservation. The activity also strengthened children’s social development through cooperation, communication, and shared responsibility. Overall, ecobrick activities function not only as an innovative waste-management solution but also as an educational medium that holistically supports child development and instills environmental awareness from an early age.

This article discusses the application of service learning as an educational approach that supports the preservation of cultural heritage and the strengthening of sustainable tourism in Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. As one of the most important Hindu temple complexes in Southeast Asia, Batu Caves has become a symbol of cultural diversity and interreligious harmony. However, increased tourism activity has brought about various problems, such as environmental pollution, waste management issues, and the erosion of cultural values among visitors. To address these challenges, service-learning programs integrate academic theory with direct participation in the community, allowing students to actively engage in environmental conservation, cultural documentation, and the development of public education initiatives. Thru collaboration with temple managers, local communities, and tourists, students applied management concepts in real-world situations, including cleaning activities, maintaining tourist areas, developing educational materials on eco-tourism, and preserving traditional rituals thru cultural archiving. The implementation of this service learning not only enriches students' learning experiences but also raises public awareness about the importance of preserving Batu Caves as a sustainable cultural heritage site. Overall, this project demonstrates that service learning is a transformative pedagogical approach that connects academic goals with community development and cultivates future leaders who are socially responsible and culturally sensitive.

This study examines the social, economic, and tourism impacts on the lives of the community in Penglipuran Tourism Village. The research highlights that the growth of tourism significantly increases local income by approximately 150–300%, fosters the creation of new business opportunities, and contributes to the preservation of Balinese culture and traditions. Tourism development not only strengthens the village’s cultural identity but also enhances social cohesion through community-based tourism initiatives. In addition, the adoption of digital technologies, such as cashless payment systems and electronic ticketing, has improved transaction efficiency, transparency, and market expansion, while also providing better services for visitors. Despite these benefits, several challenges have emerged, including growing environmental pressures, waste management issues, and the potential widening of economic inequality between residents directly involved in tourism and those who are not. These challenges indicate that tourism development can also create socio-economic gaps and place strains on the village’s natural resources if not managed carefully. Therefore, sustainable tourism management becomes crucial in balancing cultural preservation, economic equity, and environmental protection. This study suggests that policies integrating community participation, equitable economic distribution, and environmental sustainability are essential to ensure long-term positive impacts. Ultimately, Penglipuran Tourism Village can serve as a model for sustainable rural tourism development in Indonesia and beyond.
