College represents a critical transitional period requiring high adaptation, where students often face escalating academic demands triggering psychological pressure. This study aims to deeply analyze the reciprocal relationship between sleep patterns and academic stress levels, and identify their subsequent impacts on cognitive function (concentration) and students' physical health. This study employs a qualitative method with a Systematic Literature Review approach. Data were collected through comprehensive searches of accredited national and reputable international scientific articles published within the last five years (2020–2025). Literature selection was conducted rigorously using specific keywords to screen empirical studies relevant to stress, sleep, and student health variables. Data synthesis reveals a strong and consistent negative correlation. High levels of academic stress whether stemming from the adaptation phase of new students (initiation), thesis preparation workload, or role conflicts in working students are significantly associated with decreased sleep quality. Physiologically, stress triggers increased cortisol levels causing insomnia, shortened sleep duration, and prolonged sleep latency. Subsequent impacts are proven to drastically reduce learning concentration and trigger physical health disorders, including an increased risk of primary dysmenorrhea in female students. This study concludes that academic stress and sleep disturbances form a destructive cycle that exacerbates one another. Therefore, holistic institutional interventions in the form of sleep hygiene education and stress management training are needed to break this chain for the sake of student well-being and academic performance.

Academic stress has become a significant psychological issue among university students, particularly during periods of high academic pressure such as examinations, intensive coursework, and academic performance demands. Excessive academic stress may negatively affect students’ psychological well-being, learning motivation, and academic performance. This study aims to explore in depth the experiences of academic stress and psychological responses among students during periods of high academic pressure. A qualitative descriptive approach with a phenomenological perspective was employed to capture students’ lived experiences. Data were collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews with six student participants selected using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis, involving open, axial, and selective coding to identify emerging themes. The findings reveal that the main sources of academic stress include excessive academic workload, time management difficulties, high self-expectations, and external academic pressures. Students experienced varying levels of stress ranging from mild to severe, manifested through psychological responses such as anxiety, emotional instability, mental fatigue, decreased concentration, and reduced motivation. The study also found that students applied diverse coping strategies, including adaptive strategies such as time management, seeking social support, and self-reflection, as well as maladaptive strategies such as procrastination and emotional withdrawal. These findings highlight that academic stress is a complex and subjective experience influenced by individual perceptions and coping capacities. The study implies the importance of supportive academic environments and accessible mental health services in higher education institutions to promote students’ psychological well-being and resilience. The results may serve as a reference for developing preventive and promotive mental health programs for students facing academic stress..

Employee turnover in Jakarta’s star-rated hotels remains high in the post-pandemic period, ranging from 11–38% annually, which significantly affects service quality and industry competitiveness. This phenomenon is driven by a combination of job insecurity due to massive layoffs, job stress from excessive workload and long working hours, and a mismatch between young employees’ career expectations and traditional HR practices. Millennials and Gen-Z tend to prioritize self-development, meaningful work, and work–life balance, making them more mobile and open to new opportunities. This study aims to identify the dominant factors influencing turnover, explore the perceptions of HR managers and frontline staff regarding the policy–practice gap, and formulate relevant HR strategies for the post-pandemic context. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving in-depth semi-structured interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation review, analyzed using Miles, Huberman & Saldaña’s interactive model. Data validity was ensured through triangulation, member checking, and peer debriefing. Findings reveal a significant gap between HR policies and their implementation, weakening retention strategies. The study proposes integrated strategies including consistent employer branding, adaptive and transparent compensation, needs-based digital training, fair work flexibility, and competency-based career mapping. The main contribution lies in formulating a combinatorial HR model that provides a practical retention roadmap while enriching the hospitality HRM literature in Indonesia.
