This study examines the paradox of adolescents dropping out of formal education in Baros Village, Brebes Regency, where short-term economic pressures perpetuate structural poverty and hinder upward social mobility. The study aims to unravel the local sociocultural dynamics mediating the decision to drop out of school, filling a gap in the existing literature that has focused too heavily on macroeconomic factors. Using a qualitative case-study design, the research involved eight key informants through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. Data were analyzed using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model to ensure validity through source triangulation. Findings reveal three typologies of vulnerability: sudden shocks, chronic structural poverty, and dependence on the informal economy. The decision to drop out of school is driven by the high opportunity costs of adolescent labor, the burden of hidden costs, and a low perceived return on investment in education. Parents construct education as a "tertiary luxury" and children as "strategic economic assets," creating what is termed "contextual survival rationality." This phenomenon indicates that dropping out of school is not merely a passive consequence of poverty but rather a calculated adaptive strategy for survival. Consequently, the cycle of intergenerational poverty persists because education is viewed as a threat to household economic stability rather than a way out, thus requiring policy interventions that are not merely charitable but also structural and aimed at changing families' perceptions of economic values.

The phenomenon of children not attending school in Situhiang Village is still a serious problem that has an impact on the social, emotional, and sustainable development of children's education. This service program aims to design and implement mentoring based on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) approach by involving parents, teachers, and the community as the main subjects in overcoming the causes of children not attending school. The ABCD method is used through the stages of asset mapping, expectation formulation, strategy design, action plan determination, and implementation of continuous mentoring. The results of the activity showed that the main causes of school absenteeism were related to children's negative experiences, family economic conditions, and social environmental pressures. Mentoring has succeeded in increasing parental awareness, strengthening community support, and creating a safer, more comfortable, and child-friendly learning environment. This program also fosters the collective commitment of residents to maintain the sustainability of education through the formation of education care groups. These findings confirm that community empowerment through an asset-based approach is effective in reducing children's risk of school dropouts, increasing primary education participation, and encouraging children's social inclusion in the community.

This study aims to describe the main factors causing children in Perumaan Village, East Alok District to drop out of school, as well as the efforts made to overcome this problem. A descriptive qualitative method was used. This research was conducted in Parumaan Village, East Alok District, from February 12 to February 28, 2025, because there are still children who drop out of school in Parumaan Village. The data sources in this study are primary and secondary data sources. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. After collection, the data was analyzed following these steps: Data Collection, Data Reduction, Data Presentation, Conclusion Drawing, and Verification. The results of the study show that the main causes of children dropping out of school can be divided into two factors, namely internal and external. Internal factors include lack of parental attention, economic conditions, and low interest in learning among children. Meanwhile, external factors include an unsupportive social environment, the influence of promiscuity, and low levels of parental education. These findings show that children tend to lose their educational direction when support from their families and surrounding environment is minimal. To address this issue, several efforts have been made, such as raising awareness about the importance of education by the village government, providing economic assistance such as scholarships and KIP (Indonesian Smart Card), and involving the community through mutual cooperation and mentoring. This study recommends strengthening collaboration between families, schools, the government, and the community to create a conducive and sustainable educational environment.

The phenomenon of school dropout remains a serious issue in Indonesia’s education system, particularly in urban poor areas such as Kampung Petukangan, East Jakarta. This study aims to understand how poverty, both in its absolute and relative forms, contributes to children's decisions to leave school, as well as how the education system plays a role in reproducing social inequality. Using a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews and limited participant observation, the research was conducted with five informants, consisting of school dropouts and their parents. The analysis draws on Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical concepts, including habitus, capital, field, symbolic violence, and social reproduction. The findings indicate that dropping out of school is not merely an individual decision, but the result of a complex interaction between economic structures, the habitus of poor families, a lack of social and cultural capital, and symbolic mechanisms within the education system that subtly exclude disadvantaged children. Instead of serving as a tool for social mobility, school functions as an arena that reproduces class inequality across generations.

This community service activity aims to introduce the advantages of Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) compared to Elementary Schools (SD) and the Paket A Program, particularly in the context of student learning and character development. Madrasah Ibtidaiyah excels in the integration of religious and general education, supporting the holistic development of student character. Based on various studies, including the development of gamification-based literacy media in MI and the internalization of multicultural values in MI, MI has proven to be more effective in instilling important religious and social values at an early age. While the Paket A Program provides educational opportunities for school dropouts, it does not directly accommodate religious education as MI does. The advantages of MI are also reflected in the development of wahdatul ulum-based teaching materials and interactive e-modules to improve science skills, which demonstrate a more innovative approach to teaching and align with 21st-century learning principles. Therefore, this activity aims to increase public understanding of MI's advantages in shaping student character, skills, and socio-economic intelligence, while emphasizing the importance of religious education in supporting the moral and ethical development of children.

Wringintelu Village, located in Puger District, Jember Regency, is a notable tobacco-producing area, facing significant challenges related to child involvement in hazardous work within the tobacco agriculture sector. The health risks for these children include Green Tobacco Sickness (GTS), alongside adverse effects on their education, such as school dropouts. To address this issue, a service program focused on ecoprint training was conducted by 16 students from Collaborative KKN #3 in partnership with the Wringintelu Village Children's Forum (FAD). The program aims to equip children with alternative skills through ecoprint training, using natural materials to produce handicrafts with marketable value, while reducing their reliance on tobacco-related jobs. The program's methods included socialization and hands-on ecoprint-making workshops, attended by 28 members of the FAD Wringintelu. This activity not only raises awareness of the dangers of working in the tobacco sector but also provides new skills that can support the economic sustainability of both children and their families. The participants' ecoprint products demonstrated market potential, offering safer and healthier economic opportunities. The success of this program highlights the importance of collaboration between communities and educational institutions, both formal and non-formal, in creating sustainable solutions to protect children from dangerous labor and support their rights optimally.
