This study aims to examine the influence of slang language usage on the use of Indonesian language in WhatsApp communication among students of Class F, Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program, Universitas Negeri Padang, academic year 2025/2026. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method with a correlational approach. The population and sample consisted of 35 students selected using total sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires using a Likert scale and analyzed using descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation test, and simple linear regression. The results indicate that the use of slang language is categorized as high, while the use of standard Indonesian language is categorized as moderate. The correlation analysis shows a negative relationship between slang usage and the use of Indonesian language in WhatsApp communication. These findings suggest that higher intensity of slang usage tends to reduce the use of proper Indonesian language. This study is expected to raise students’ awareness of the importance of using appropriate Indonesian language according to communication contexts, particularly in academic settings.

This study aims to analyze and identify the use of language styles in the song "Kuyamu to Kaite Mirai." Language style refers to the technique of utilizing the richness of language, both in written works and oral communication, to create deeper aesthetic and communicative effects. In song lyrics, the use of language style becomes a crucial element that can strengthen the meaning and artistic appeal of a literary work. This research employs Gorys Keraf's language style theory as the theoretical foundation for classifying and identifying language styles. The study utilizes a descriptive qualitative research method with primary data sources consisting of the lyrics of "Kuyamu to Kaite Mirai." The qualitative approach was chosen to enable in-depth analysis of figurative language usage within the song lyrics. The research findings reveal the presence of five types of language styles employed in the lyrics of "Kuyamu to Kaite Mirai." The identified language styles include asyndeton, assonance, erotesis, metaphor, and simile. Asyndeton was found in the use of word sequences without conjunctions to create dramatic effects. Assonance was identified through the repetition of vowel sounds that create sound harmony. The esoteric figurative language style emerges in the use of the particle の at the end of sentences, indicating that this verse constitutes an interrogative sentence. Metaphors and similes are employed to create comparisons that strengthen the song's emotional meaning. The utilization of language styles in the lyrics of "Kuyamu to Kaite Mirai" functions not merely as aesthetic ornamentation, but also as a means to convey messages and emotions more effectively to listeners. This research is expected to contribute to the understanding of language style usage in popular music works and serve as a reference for similar studies in the future.

This study focuses on improving digital literacy and formal Indonesian language proficiency among the Indonesian diaspora community in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The community faces challenges in adapting to digital technology and maintaining linguistic and cultural identity, which limits their socio-economic participation and engagement in community activities. The objective of this research is to develop and implement a community-based program that enhances digital skills while promoting national language usage and cultural preservation. The program employed a participatory and interactive approach, including workshops, hands-on practice, mentoring, role-play, and storytelling, targeting 30 participants comprising youth, MSME actors, teachers, village officials, and housewives. Pre-test and post-test evaluations, direct observation, and interviews were used to assess the impact of the program. The results show significant improvements in digital literacy, with participants demonstrating enhanced skills in e-mail usage, document sharing, e-wallet applications, and digital security awareness, with post-test gains ranging from 40% to 45%. Likewise, proficiency in formal Indonesian language, public speaking, and cultural knowledge increased by 25% to 28%, reflecting both technical and cultural skill development. The findings indicate that community-based, participatory learning integrated with cultural reinforcement effectively bridges the digital divide and strengthens linguistic identity among diaspora communities. The study concludes that such a hybrid model not only empowers participants in digital and linguistic capacities but also promotes cultural sustainability and social cohesion, offering a scalable and replicable framework for similar communities.

This study explores the complex relationship between globalization, local languages, and the preservation of traditional cultures. As globalization accelerates, the dominance of major world languages poses significant challenges to the vitality of local languages, often leading to their decline or extinction. This research employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data on language usage trends with qualitative interviews from community leaders, linguists, and cultural practitioners. The findings indicate that while globalization facilitates cultural exchange and access to information, it simultaneously threatens linguistic diversity and traditional cultural practices. The study highlights case studies from various regions, illustrating how local communities respond to these challenges through revitalization efforts, language education programs, and cultural initiatives aimed at preserving their heritage. Additionally, the research discusses the role of technology and social media in both promoting and endangering local languages. Ultimately, this study emphasizes the need for a balanced approach that embraces the benefits of globalization while actively safeguarding local languages and traditional cultures, advocating for policies that support linguistic diversity and cultural preservation in an increasingly interconnected world.

Slang is a rapidly growing linguistic phenomenon among Indonesian teenagers, especially in daily interactions and social media usage. This widespread use of slang is predicted to impact teenagers' formal language skills, particularly in the context of proper and correct Indonesian. This study aims to identify the influence of slang usage on formal language proficiency among teenagers. Using a qualitative approach, this research was conducted through observations and interviews with several students at the Perguruan Indonesia Raya Foundation in Bandung. The results indicate that excessive use of slang can decrease teenagers' formal language skills, particularly in writing and speaking. However, slang can also enrich linguistic variation among teenagers as a form of expression and social identity. Therefore, an appropriate educational strategy is needed to maintain a balance between slang and formal language usage among teenagers
