Industrial hygiene is a branch of public health research that aims to prevent illness and promote Industrial hygiene is an aspect of public health that prioritizes health protection measures for workers through the identification, evaluation, and control of various elements of the work environment that can cause health problems. The goal of implementing industrial hygiene is to prevent work-related illnesses and create a safe, healthy work environment that supports workers’ well-being. Industrial Safety and Health (IS&H) encompasses these various components, including risk identification, risk assessment, risk mitigation, and worker health monitoring, waste management, and emergency response planning. Workplace risks can include physical, chemical, biological, psychological, and ergonomic hazards. Hazard analysis is a crucial step in industrial hygiene as it helps identify and document potential health risks in the workplace. The hazard analysis process includes hazard identification, risk assessment, hazard prioritization, and risk control. The implementation of Occupational Safety and Health aims to ensure the protection of employees’ safety and health from potential hazards arising from work, while ensuring a safe and sustainable work environment. The implementation of OSH and environmental health also provides broad strategic benefits such as worker protection, cost efficiency, increased productivity, regulatory compliance, and enhanced corporate reputation.

Exposure to toxic materials in the workplace remains a major occupational health and safety issue, particularly in industrial sectors with high chemical use intensity. Various control efforts have been implemented through industrial hygiene and occupational safety (OHS) programs, but their effectiveness varies. This study aims to analyze strategies for controlling toxic material exposure through industrial hygiene and OHS programs based on literature review over the past five years. The method used was literature review of 10 national journals relevant  the topic of toxic material exposure in various industrial sectors. The analysis results indicate that toxic material exposure is still found in various sectors, with types of materials such as heavy metals, organic solvents, toxic gases, and industrial dust. The most commonly implemented control strategies are the use personal protective equipment (PPE), administrative controls, and some engineering controls such as ventilation. However, the effectiveness of these controls is less than optimal due low worker compliance, limited supervision, and the minimal implementation of higher-level controls such as elimination and substitution. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen integrated industrial hygiene programs, improve worker compliance, and implement a more comprehensive hierarchy of controls to minimize the risk of toxic material exposure in the workplace.

The Household Food Industry (IRTP) of pempek in 7 Ulu Subdistrict, Palembang City plays an important role in providing traditional food and supporting the local economy, yet hygiene and sanitation conditions remain a concern due to the risk of foodborne diseases. This study aimed to describe the hygiene and sanitation conditions of pempek processing facilities in IRTPs in 2025. A descriptive cross-sectional design was applied involving 52 food handlers from 19 IRTPs selected through total sampling, with data obtained through observation and interviews using checklists and questionnaires. The majority of food handlers were aged 25–42 years (73%), female (94.2%), and had elementary to junior high school education (67.3%), with most having ≤10 years of work experience (86.5%). All equipment hygiene conditions failed to meet the requirements (100%). Food handlers’ hygiene knowledge was mostly moderate (55.8%), while hygiene principles were fulfilled in 84.2% of IRTPs. In terms of sanitation, only 52.6% of buildings met the standards and 42.1% of sanitation facilities were adequate. In conclusion, hygiene and sanitation conditions in pempek IRTPs in 7 Ulu Subdistrict remain varied, with several key indicators unmet, thus requiring continuous supervision, education, and coaching to improve compliance with health standards.

Muara Telang village is one of the villages in Banyuasin district which produces coconuts. There are many copra processing home industries in the area. One of the copra processing home industries is A'A Yusma's home industry. Copra is processed manually and without regard to higiene and sanitation aspects in copra processing. This is the background for the introduction of higiene and sanitation in copra processing in the copra home industry. The activity was carried out on January 15 2023 offline in the form of training/counseling and was attended by 15-20 people. The activity went smoothly and the community enthusiastically participated in this activity. It is hoped that this activity will raise awareness of the importance of higiene and sanitation in copra processing and apply higiene and sanitation in copra processing.   Keywords: Introduced, Higiene and sanitation, Copra’s industry, Banyuasin.
