Diarrhea remains a major public health problem among children in Indonesia, with a high prevalence that impacts morbidity, mortality, and child development. One of the key risk factors is non-compliance with hygiene practices, particularly handwashing behavior. This study aimed to determine the relationship between handwashing compliance and diarrhea cases among children treated in the Pediatric Ward of Dahlia, RSUD Dr. H. Soewondo Kendal. The research employed a quantitative analytic method with a cross-sectional design, involving a total sampling of 39 child respondents aged 5–10 years who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected using a handwashing compliance questionnaire and a diarrhea incidence questionnaire, and analyzed using Spearman’s Rank Correlation test. The results showed that most respondents were in the moderately compliant (53.8%) and compliant (43.6%) categories for handwashing, while the incidence of diarrhea remained relatively high at 51.3%. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant negative relationship between handwashing compliance and diarrhea cases (ρ = -0.538; p = 0.000), meaning that the higher the level of handwashing compliance, the lower the incidence of diarrhea. In conclusion, handwashing compliance is an important protective factor in reducing the risk of diarrhea among children. These findings emphasize the need for continuous education for children and parents regarding proper handwashing practices, as well as the integration of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) promotion into healthcare and educational services to prevent diarrhea from an early age

The Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS) movement serves as a benchmark in health development efforts to improve community behavior. An individual’s health status is closely related to their behavior—the better the health-related behavior, the better the health status. This community service project aims to explore the knowledge and behavioral quality of PHBS among coastal communities in Labuan Sumbawa Village, specifically in Padak and Pasir hamlets, where all residents were the target population of the program. The implementation was carried out through a door-to-door approach, supported by undergraduate students from the Nursing and Public Health study programs. The activity was integrated with the subjects they had studied in class, namely Health Promotion, Health Education, and Community-Based Health Promotion in Coastal and Remote Areas. The expected outcomes of this community service include the application of PHBS practices in daily life, particularly in the household setting. Community members are expected to adopt handwashing practices before and after activities, especially after defecating, urinating, and before eating.

Handwashing with soap (HWWS) is one of the simplest, most effective, and cost-efficient behaviors for preventing infectious diseases. However, its practice remains suboptimal at the household level in Indonesia. This research aims to analyze HWWS behavior using community questionnaire data as a basis for developing health promotion strategies through the Problem Solving Cycle (PSC) approach. This descriptive quantitative study was conducted among 50 respondents using a closed-ended questionnaire covering the knowledge, attitude, and practice dimensions of HWWS. The results showed that although respondents had high awareness and positive attitudes toward HWWS, their practices remained inconsistent due to habitual and infrastructural barriers. These findings highlight the need for integrated interventions combining direct education, social media campaigns, and improved access to handwashing facilities. This study contributes to evidence-based, participatory, and contextually adapted health promotion strategies aimed at achieving sustainable behavioral change.

The aim of this research is to assess the impact of using audiovisual media on the knowledge, attitudes, and handwashing practices among preschool children at Wulele Sanggula Abeli Kindergarten in the Abeli Region in 2023. The research method employs a quantitative approach with a Pre-Experimental design and a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consists of 40 children selected using total sampling technique. Research instruments include questionnaires and audiovisual media. The results indicate a significant improvement in knowledge (pre-test: 3.07; Post-test: 10.00), attitudes (pre-test: 3.15; Post-test: 10.00), and handwashing practices (pre-test: 2.30; Post-test: 6.00). It can be concluded that the use of audiovisual media has a positive influence on the knowledge, attitudes, and handwashing practices among preschool children at Wulele Sanggula Abeli, with important implications for improving hygiene and health habits in the school environment.
