Environmental sanitation and hygiene are crucial for preventing skin and infectious diseases, especially in coastal areas. This has led to increased interest in developing environmentally friendly natural alternatives. Mangrove leaves have been studied for their significant antibacterial properties due to bioactive compounds such as saponins and flavonoids. Buti Village is one of the coastal villages with mangrove potential. Although several previous studies have confirmed the technical feasibility of mangrove-based products, there is limited literature on empirical dissemination strategies and community responses, particularly in the 3T (Frontier, Outermost, and Disadvantaged) areas. This study addresses this gap by evaluating dissemination strategies and community responses to innovative mangrove-based soap and hand sanitizer products in Buti Village, Merauke, South Papua. Using a quantitative descriptive approach supported by qualitative research, the study involved a purposive sample of 40 local residents. The dissemination strategy included participatory training, product demonstrations, and educational brochures. Findings showed a high level of acceptance, with 86% of respondents accepting the product, and a significant level of self-reliance, with 81% of participants able to independently produce soap and hand sanitizer products. This demonstrates that a participatory, educational, and locally-based approach is effective in building knowledge and positive attitudes toward environmentally friendly innovations. This research demonstrates that these innovations have significant potential to become sustainable community-based small businesses that can strengthen the local economy while promoting mangrove conservation.

The low level of public awareness regarding hand hygiene has become a contributing factor to the spread of infectious diseases transmitted through contact. This condition has sparked innovation in the development of hand sanitizer products made from natural ingredients, which are not only effective in killing germs but also safe and environmentally friendly. One promising natural ingredient is pineapple peel (Ananas comosus L.), which is generally considered organic waste. Pineapple peel contains bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and the enzyme bromelain, all of which possess antibacterial properties. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial effectiveness of pineapple peel extract against the growth of Escherichia coli and assess its feasibility as an active ingredient in spray hand sanitizer formulations. The research method involved preparing spray hand sanitizer with varying concentrations of pineapple peel extract: 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, and 90%. Antibacterial activity was tested using the disk diffusion method to measure the inhibition zone against E. coli. Additional evaluations included physical quality tests such as pH, spreadability, homogeneity, organoleptic properties, skin irritation test, storage stability, and consumer preference. The results showed that the 90% concentration formulation had the highest antibacterial effectiveness, with an inhibition zone of 22 mm. This formulation was also the most preferred by respondents due to its strong and fresh aroma, appealing color, and pleasant texture on the skin. All formulations had pH values within the safe range (5.5–7), did not cause skin irritation, and demonstrated stability during storage. In conclusion, pineapple peel extract is effective as a natural active ingredient in spray hand sanitizer formulations. This product not only exhibits strong antibacterial activity against E. coli but is also safe, stable, and presents an environmentally friendly alternative to support improved public hand hygiene.

Vegetable ingredients are natural sources of active compounds that have the potential to be used as control agents for pathogenic microorganisms in various fields, including health and agriculture. This study aims to evaluate the synergistic effect between aloe vera (Aloe vera L.) and bandotan (Ageratum conyzoides L.) extracts on inhibiting the growth of pathogenic bacteria in different media. Aloe vera extract is obtained using the infundation method, while bandotan extract is obtained using the maceration technique. The concentrations tested were 30%, 45%, and 60% for each extract, as well as a combination of both. Testing was carried out on two main applications: as an antiseptic hand sanitizer by testing germ colonies using Plate Count Agar (PCA), and as a bacteria control Erwinia carotovora, the cause of carrot tuber rot, using the Path Ways Analysis test. The results showed that the combination of aloe vera and bandotan extracts had more significant inhibitory effectiveness than single extracts in both applications. A combination concentration of 60% gave the best results with a reduction in bacterial colonies of up to 90%. The mechanism of action of active compounds such as flavonoids, phenolics and saponins in this vegetable extract plays an important role in damaging bacterial cell membranes and inhibiting the metabolism of microorganisms. This research confirms the potential of using local plant materials as an environmentally friendly and economical solution for controlling pathogenic bacteria in the health and agricultural sectors.

We are encouraged to wash our hands for 20 seconds, if there is no soap and running water, we can replace it with a hand sanitizer with a minimum alcohol content of 60%. By washing our hands, we can prevent viral infections in ourselves, those around us and even communities such as families and workplaces. Manual hand washing facilities or equipment that are used together can be a medium for spreading viruses so they must be minimized, one of which is by using an Automatic Sink. Because of this, automatic sink products were built to make it easier for users to wash their hands while reducing contact with water taps and soap or bar soap containers. This automatic sink was designed using the Nigel Cross method so that it can realize an automatic handwashing device with the addition of an automatic soap feature that can help the hand washing process without touching the water faucet and soap. The advantage of this method is that it covers all aspects of the design process starting from clarifying the problem to the details of the design. The new product attributes that are arranged by designers are adjusted to the needs of the community, starting from materials to product functions. Based on testing several tasks and answers from the questionnaire answered by respondents, namely as many as 30 respondents to this sink product, it can be said that the attributes used are valid data. The results of the validity test were then carried out by a reliability test with the aim of testing the level of consistency of data measurement. The results of this reliability test produce a Crounchbach's Alpha value of 0.709, which means it is reliable because it is > 0.6.

The rise of disease outbreaks caused by microorganisms such as SARS, bird flu, HIV and COVID-19 has made people use products that contain antiseptics such as soap and hand sanitizer. However, if used continuously it will dissolve the layer of fat and sebum on the skin so that the skin becomes sensitive, dry, and irritated. The development of antiseptic products can be done with natural ingredients such as green betel leaf extract (Piper betle L). It is known that green betel leaf (Piper betle L) has long been used in traditional medicine and can be a natural antiseptic ingredient for making hand sanitizer. This study aims to determine the formulation of hand sanitizer from betel leaf extract (Piper betle L) accompanied by a physical stability test. The materials used in this study were methyl paraben, triethanolamine (TEA), glycerin, aquadest, 95% ethanol, lime juice, green betel leaf extract obtained from the reflux extraction process. The research was conducted by varying the betel leaf extract 55%, 60%, 65%, 70%, 75%. Tests were carried out by covering organoleptic observations (shape, color, odor), pH, homogeneity, dispersion.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made hand sanitizer gel widely used.  Hand sanitizer gels generally contain alcohol as an antiseptic to kill bacteria, but long-term use of antiseptics containing alcohol can cause skin irritation.  So we need natural alternative materials that have antibacterial power but are friendly to the skin and do not cause irritation.  One of theplants that can be used as an antibacterial is a bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum) because it contains flavonoids that can act as an antiseptic against bacteria. The purpose of this study is to find out the formulation and physical test of the gel hand sanitizer of the ethanol extract of bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) with a variety of carbopol concentrations. this study used an experimental design.  Three formulations were made with different concentrations of carbopol, namely formula I (carbopol 0.5%), formula II (carbopol 1%), and formula III (carbopol 1.5%).  Of the three formulas, physical properties were evaluated which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, and PH tests.  The results showed that formula I (carbopol 0.5%), and formula II (carbopol 1%) met the requirements for evaluating the physical properties of the hand sanitizer gel which included organoleptic tests, homogeneity tests, and PH tests.  While formula III (carbopol 1.5%) did not meet the physical test, namely the PH test.
