The postpartum period is a critical phase in which mothers experience physiological and psychological recovery. Bengkung, a traditional abdominal binding cloth, is commonly used by Indonesian postpartum mothers, but inappropriate application may cause discomfort and may not support recovery optimally. This community service program aimed to improve postpartum mothers' knowledge and skills regarding safe and appropriate bengkung use. The activity was conducted through counseling, demonstration, guided practice, and evaluation using a one-group pre-test and post-test approach involving 30 postpartum mothers at a community-based maternal health service setting. The educational content covered postpartum physiological changes, indications and contraindications, safe binding principles, hygiene, duration of use, warning signs, and when to seek professional care. The evaluation showed an increase in good knowledge from 26.7% before education to 86.7% after education, and correct practice skills increased from 20.0% to 83.3%. Participants also reported better understanding of avoiding overly tight binding, maintaining breathing comfort, and discontinuing use when pain, shortness of breath, excessive bleeding, or wound problems occur. This activity indicates that structured education and demonstration can strengthen postpartum self-care and support safer integration of traditional practices into maternal health services.

Data from the 2020 LFSP (Long Form Population Census) recorded a maternal mortality ratio of 189 per 100,000 live births, while the infant mortality rate was recorded at 16.85 per 1,000 live births. The causes of maternal mortality were hemorrhage, preeclampsia/eclampsia, infection, prolonged labor, and miscarriage. Meanwhile, the majority of infant deaths were due to low birth weight, asphyxia, and infection at birth. Stunting remains a particular concern in Tegal City. Various measures have been taken, and the stunting rate has decreased to around 13.8% according to data from early 2025. This PKM is expected to increase public knowledge on caring for pregnant women, women in labor, postpartum women, and newborns, as well as preventing stunting in children, thereby reducing maternal and infant mortality rates. The methods used in this activity include health education and outreach with a promotive and preventive approach, targeting pregnant women and mothers with infants and toddlers. Community service was held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Boegenvil Health Center in Cabawan Village, Tegal City, with 53 participants. The results of this activity showed an increase in the level of knowledge of the participants, from 11 people with a good level of knowledge to 41 people after receiving counseling, with 3 participants still having a low level of knowledge.

Based on the 2017 Indonesian Demographic and Health Survey (SDKI), one of the SDGs targets by 2030 is to reduce the maternal mortality rate to 70 per 100,000 live births. The maternal mortality rate in Indonesia is 305 per 100,000 live births (Ministry of Health, 2017). This community service activity aims to determine the effect of postpartum care counseling on postpartum mothers' knowledge about the use of the KIA handbook. The implementation method involved community outreach and counseling in the target area, with the active participation of community leaders and residents. The results showed that education influenced postpartum mothers' knowledge. Counseling provided to postpartum mothers increased knowledge, leading to changes in knowledge before and after counseling. This activity is expected to be sustainable as a promotive and preventive effort in public health

Exclusive breastfeeding during the first six months of life is a key strategy for improving infant health and reducing morbidity and mortality. However, the coverage of exclusive breastfeeding remains suboptimal in many areas, often due to limited maternal knowledge, inadequate support, and insufficient lactation counseling. Intensive lactation counseling is expected to enhance mothers’ understanding, confidence, and commitment to exclusive breastfeeding. This study aimed to analyze the effect of intensive lactation counseling on exclusive breastfeeding practices up to three months postpartum at the Paguat Community Health Center (UPTD). This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 30 breastfeeding mothers were selected as participants using purposive sampling techniques. Data on exclusive breastfeeding practices were collected before and after the implementation of intensive lactation counseling using structured questionnaires and observation sheets. The counseling intervention was conducted intensively through individualized sessions focusing on breastfeeding techniques, benefits of exclusive breastfeeding, and problem-solving strategies. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level set at p < 0.05. The results showed a significant effect of intensive lactation counseling on exclusive breastfeeding practices up to three months postpartum. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant improvement in exclusive breastfeeding behavior after the intervention. In conclusion, intensive lactation counseling has a significant positive effect on exclusive breastfeeding up to three months. Strengthening lactation counseling services at community health centers recommended to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverage and support maternal and infant health outcomes.

Data were collected using structured questionnaires to assess mothers’ knowledge of postpartum self-warning signs before and after receiving structured counseling. The counseling intervention was delivered using standardized educational materials. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test to determine the effectiveness of structured postpartum counseling on self-warning knowledge. Results: The results showed an increase in self-warning knowledge among postpartum mothers after receiving structured counseling. Statistical analysis using the Chi-square test indicated a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a statistically significant effect of structured postpartum counseling on improving postpartum mothers’ self-warning knowledge. Conclusion: Structured postpartum counseling is effective in enhancing self-warning knowledge among postpartum mothers. Perineal wounds due to spontaneous tears or episiotomy are common conditions experienced by postpartum mothers and have the potential to cause complications if not properly cared for. Low knowledge and compliance of postpartum mothers in performing perineal wound care remains a problem in primary health care. This study aims to analyze the effect of perineal wound care education on the level of knowledge and compliance of postpartum mothers at the Laiwui Community Health Center, South Halmahera. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. The study sample consisted of 40 postpartum mothers with perineal wounds and were selected using a total sampling technique. The intervention in the form of perineal wound care education was provided in a structured manner through counseling, leaflets, and live demonstrations. The level of knowledge and compliance was measured before and after the intervention using a standardized questionnaire. Data analysis was performed univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed an increase in the level of knowledge and compliance of postpartum mothers after being provided with education. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference between knowledge levels before and after education (p < 0.05), as well as a significant difference in postpartum maternal compliance (p < 0.05). It can be concluded that perineal wound care education has a significant effect on increasing postpartum maternal knowledge and compliance. Structured and applicable education is recommended to be integrated as part of the standard postpartum care in primary health care to support maternal recovery and prevent postpartum complications.
