Islamic boarding schools play a strategic role in national development, not only as religious educational institutions, but also as agents of social and economic empowerment for the people. Law No. 18 of 2019 strengthens their position in the national legal system, in line with the values of Pancasila, which emphasizes social justice and respect for diversity. This study aims to analyze the position of Islamic boarding schools within the national legal framework, emphasizing the relevance of Pancasila and their contribution to strengthening the economy of the Muslim community. The method used is a qualitative approach with normative-legal literature study and qualitative analysis of regulations, literature, and practices of economic empowerment in Islamic boarding schools. The results of the study show that Islamic boarding schools have legal legitimacy as independent institutions in education, da'wah, and community empowerment, while also playing a role in developing cooperatives, micro-enterprises, and santri-based entrepreneurship. Thus, Islamic boarding schools have proven to be important actors in strengthening the economy of the Muslim community and implementing the Pancasila value of social justice.

In the economic sector, cooperatives are one form of collaboration in the field of economics. People trust this type of collaboration because they share a number of common needs in their lives. One of the pesantren-owned enterprises (BUMP) at Pondok Miftahul Ulum RU IV Putra is a cooperative that works to support and improve the local economy. This study aims to examine the role of Islamic boarding school cooperatives (kopontren) in improving students’ economic welfare and their contribution to the development of pesantren infrastructure. The research was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Miftahul Ulum RU IV Putra using a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that kopontren plays a strategic role in meeting students’ basic needs at affordable prices and serves as a practical learning platform that fosters entrepreneurship and self-reliance among students. Additionally, although its contribution to infrastructure is still limited, the kopontren has shown social concern through the provision of supporting facilities such as dormitory furniture and environmental maintenance. Collaboration between the cooperative management and pesantren leadership is a key factor in ensuring the sustainability of the cooperative as an integral part of the pesantren’s educational system.

Compared to other Islamic financial institutions, Islamic cooperatives are one type of financial institution that is still less known in the community. This can be seen from the lack of familiarity of the term sharia cooperative to our society. This research is a qualitative research, in accordance with the object of study, this type of research is included in the category of library research, which is a systematic approach to collecting, analysing, and evaluating relevant information from various academic sources. By 2022, there were 3,912 active sharia savings and loan cooperatives (KSPPS) in Indonesia. This indicates a significant expansion in the number of Islamic cooperative institutions during this period when compared to the previous period, when there was a Covid-19.There needs to be an Islamic cooperative development strategy in Indonesia in order to optimise the role of Islamic cooperatives in improving the MSME sector in Indonesia.The element of need that is the main key in the development strategy of Islamic cooperatives in Indonesia to improve MSMEs is the need for strong support in the legal aspects of Islamic cooperatives (positive law and sharia law).

One of the Islamic Boarding School Owned Enterprises (BUMP) at the Izzatuna Putra Palembang Islamic Boarding School is a pesantren cooperative that works to support the economy and improve the economy. This study aims to: (1) Describe the extent to which Islamic boarding school cooperatives have contributed to the economic expansion of Islamic boarding schools., (2) What is the role of cooperatives in improving the economy of the Islamic boarding school Izzatuna Putra Palembang in the study of Islamic economics. This is a type of field research using primary and secondary data sources. The data obtained will be presented with narrative text. This study uses qualitative data analysis methods/techniques using inductive thinking methods. The results of this study indicate that: (1) The role of cooperatives in improving the Islamic boarding school's economy is marked by the development of cooperatives that run a trading business every day where a portion of the profits will be deposited to the Islamic boarding school, both material and non-material, and the Islamic boarding school cooperative is also very helpful. in increasing the income of members of the cooperative and the Islamic boarding school community. (2) Then the role of the Izzatuna Putra Palembang Islamic Boarding School Cooperative in improving the economy of the Izzatuna Putra Palembang Islamic Boarding School in an Islamic perspective is carried out in several ways, namely: sharia economic values ​​in helping the community's economy, and avoiding incompatibility of sharia economic principles.
