This study is motivated by the limited public understanding of the symbolic meaning of properties used in the Grombyang Dance of Pemalang, where most audiences merely enjoy the performance without recognizing the cultural values embedded within it. This research aims to examine and explain the symbolic meanings of the properties used in the Grombyang Dance of Pemalang as performed at Sanggar Seni Kaloka Pemalang. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative approach using semiotic analysis based on Charles Sanders Peirce, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the performance structure of the Grombyang Dance of Pemalang consists of three main parts: the opening, the core, and the closing, supported by various elements such as theme, movement, performers, makeup, costume, musical accompaniment, stage setting, and properties. The semiotic analysis reveals that the symbolic meaning of the properties can be understood through the relationship between representamen, object, and interpretant. The main property, the irus (ladle), functions as a symbol that not only represents the act of scooping Grombyang soup but also carries a belief-related meaning as a bringer of fortune in trading activities. In conclusion, the properties in the Grombyang Dance of Pemalang serve not only as aesthetic elements but also as a medium of symbolic communication that reflects cultural, social, and belief values within the community. Therefore, they are important to be preserved and more deeply understood by the public.

Traditional artworks, amidst the tide of modernization and digitalization, face the challenge of being stigmatized as static relics of the past. However, in the midst of increasingly modern civilization, traditional artworks are perceived to possess philosophical values ​​for the younger generation. The meanings contained in traditional songs possess a social perspective lacking in most traditional songs composed in the modern era. The purpose of this article is to examine the lyrics of Ki Nartosabdo's song "Lumbung Desa" philosophically and sociologically, applying Roland Barthes's semiotic theory. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive approach to analyze semiotics, comprising the significance of denotation, connotation, and myth.The analysis shows that the denotation in the lyrics of "Lumbung Desa" depicts agricultural activities occurring in rural communities. Connotatively, the lyrics interpret the values ​​of human spirituality towards God, integrity in work, and food self-sufficiency. From a mythical perspective, the lyrics symbolize the values ​​of harmony in social life and mutual cooperation as a solid foundation for building national stability and progress. Further analysis of the song lyrics' relevance in the modern era shows that the meaning of "Lumbung" has transformed into financial and digital independence, while the value of "Rukun" points to the application of ethics in the use of digital media in the modern era. This article concludes that preserving traditional songs is a strategy to revive culture as a manifestation of material progress that impacts the well-being of modern society.

This study aims to analyze the meaning of interfaith marriage in the film Komang using Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic theory. This theory emphasizes the relationship between signifier and signified as well as the concepts of langue and parole to explain the interaction between social systems and individual expression. The results of the analysis show that the visual, verbal, and symbolic signs in the film represent the clash between love and belief. Scenes such as the initial meeting at a cultural festival, family rejection, and symbolic marriage become a form of negotiation between social values and personal freedom. This film affirms that interfaith marriage in Indonesia can only be accepted through compromise with the religious norms of the majority, but still presents a message of tolerance through symbols of cultural harmony. Therefore, the film Komang is not just a romantic narrative, but a social reflection on the relationship between religion, culture, and love in a pluralistic society.

This study aims to determine the representation of the father's role as a single parent in the short film "Mana Janji Ayah." The study used a qualitative method with Roland Barthes's semiotic analysis focusing on three layers of meaning: denotation, connotation, and myth. The analysis was conducted on scenes depicting the father's role, including as protector, patient, breadwinner, caretaker, and bringer of happiness to children. The results show that the representation of fathers is not limited to financial functions but also encompasses emotional and moral roles, such as affection, responsibility, and sacrifice in raising children. The film depicts a single father who works as a bajaj driver to support his children after the death of his wife, despite often facing economic constraints and environmental stigma. This representation is conveyed through visual and audio cues that reinforce the message of a father's struggle and sincerity. This study confirms that film can be a medium that reflects social reality, particularly the complexity of the role of single fathers, which is often overlooked in society.

The film Home Sweet Loan depicts the reality of the lives of young people who face economic and psychological pressures due to the double burden of family. The character of Kaluna represents the sandwich generation, a generation that must meet the needs of both generations, parents and the nuclear family. This study aims to analyze the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth in this film, as well as how the representation of the sandwich generation is formed through narrative and visual symbols. The approach used is Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, which divides meaning into three levels: denotative, connotative, and myth. Data were obtained through observation of the film, visual documentation and dialogue, and interviews with semiotics experts and film practitioners. The results show that the film Home Sweet Loan presents a layered meaning that reflects the dilemma of the sandwich generation, especially young women. The representation of the sandwich generation is formed through symbols and narratives that highlight the conflict between personal interests and responsibilities to the family. This film not only reflects reality but also functions as an ideological medium that shapes society's perspective on the role of the younger generation in the modern family. Through the character of Kaluna, the film depicts the pressures experienced by individuals in this position, including the challenge of maintaining a balance between personal ambition and obligations to the family. Thus, this film conveys a message about the importance of balancing personal interests and social demands within the family.

The term overthinking has become part of the everyday vocabulary among Generation Z, reflecting a tendency toward excessive deliberation in ordinary situations, including choosing food. The “Overthinking” advertisement by GoFood presents a compelling visual representation of this dilemma through metaphorical symbols such as a talking forehead, piles of clocks, and zodiac characters that construct a complex visual narrative of indecision. This study aims to examine how symptoms of overthinking are visually represented in the advertisement using Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. The research employed a qualitative method, utilizing observation and documentation techniques to analyze visual structures across scenes. The findings reveal that the advertisement conveys its message through denotative, connotative, and myth-based signs, illustrating how Generation Z interprets the burden of choice in a digital cultural context. The results demonstrate how visual communication strategies can foster empathy while offering solutions to the everyday anxieties of a young audience. This study contributes to the development of visual semiotics discourse in the field of visual communication design and offers insights for advertising practices grounded in social issues.

The design of banknotes is not merely an aesthetic element but also holds symbolic meanings that reflect a nation's identity, history, and cultural diversity. This study analyzes the design of the 2022 Rupiah banknotes using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic approach, which consists of icons, indexes, and symbols, through a qualitative descriptive method. The findings indicate that the visual elements in these banknotes function not only as a medium of exchange but also as a visual communication tool that strengthens nationalism and cultural awareness. National heroes, traditional dances, indigenous flora, and natural landscapes featured on each denomination carry both explicit and implicit meanings that represent Indonesia's historical and cultural values. Furthermore, the design differences between the 2016 and 2022 emissions, such as the use of more vivid colors, varied sizes, and enhanced security features, highlight the government's visual communication strategy to maintain authenticity and facilitate Rupiah identification. This study provides insights into how banknote design serves as an educational medium and a unifying tool for the nation through meaningful visual symbols.

Film is a communication medium that has the power to convey social messages to audiences through narrative and visuals. One of the social phenomena currently being extensively discussed is the issue of the sandwich generation, which is the first topic in the "Home Sweet Loan" film. With a qualitative approach and John Fiske's semiotic analysis, this research aims to explore how the sandwich generation issue is represented in the "Home Sweet Loan" film with three levels of analysis: reality, representation, and ideology. This study can contribute to providing a deeper understanding of how films can play a role in depicting relevant social issues and influencing society's perceptions of these social phenomena.

This research aims to analyze the Islamic Communication Message in the Lyrics of Ruang Rindu and the Letto Band's Heart Request using Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic approach. The author uses qualitative descriptive research to describe research data. Data was taken using the documentation technique for the lyrics of the song Letto Ruang Rindu and Hati's request. The results of this research show that the lyrics of this song have a deep Islamic communication message. The lyrics describe the search for meaning in life, feelings of loss, and hope for certainty in spiritual relationships. The meaning of the lyrics of the song Ruang Rindu describes the longing and search for deep meaning in a spiritual relationship with God. This song reflects a person's journey in finding calm and closeness to the Creator amidst doubt and silence. The message in this song invites listeners to reflect on their relationship with God and find peace by adhering to spiritual values.

Film and television series posters play a crucial role as both promotional media and symbolic representations of a work’s narrative and themes. This study analyzes the semiotics of the Netflix series The Influencer (2024) poster, which highlights issues of social media manipulation, identity crisis, and digital power. Its success in reaching Netflix’s Top 10 in Indonesia indicates strong cultural resonance. Using a qualitative approach with Barthes’ semiotic method, this research examines visual elements such as color, typography, and composition to reveal the poster’s denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings. The poster functions not only as a promotional tool but also as a medium conveying complex social messages.This study contributes to the field of Visual Communication Design by providing insights into how visual elements shape meaning and audience perception. The findings are expected to serve as a reference for academics and practitioners in understanding and creating posters that are both aesthetically appealing and meaningful.

This research aimed to analyze bullying scenes in "A Silent Voice" animation from Kyoto Animation Studio directed by Naoko Yamada. In this study, the researcher used Roland Barthes Semiotics analysis research method consisted of three analysis meanings which are denotation, connotation, and myth utilized an analysis unit which are some scenes in "A Silent Voice" animation, and used information source in a form of documentation from "A Silent Voice" animation. The research result indicates that "A Silent Voice" movie has bullying scenes which can be categorized into three types namely physical bullying, verbal bullying, and relational bullying. Other than that, "A Silent Voice" animation illustrates that there are still many unjustice and bullying in school. This movie is useful so that people do not ignore bullying cases in school or other places

Film is a form of mass communication that appeals to all demographics. According to a Jakpat survey, 88% of Indonesians like Korean films. Film is one of the communication media that has recently developed very rapidly. The film Toxic 2022 tells how the character Han Young Ju presents herself as a woman. This research is entitled Representation of Women in the Film Toxic 2002. What makes it interesting to examine how women are represented in the film Toxic 2022 is that it aims to find out how the character Han Young Ju presents herself as a woman. This study uses descriptive qualitative methods for semiotic research on the concept of Roland Barthes. The research takes and selects scene cuts that depict female figures and then analyzes the meanings contained, among others, connotative meanings, denotative meanings, and myths. The data collection technique is documentation and observation. The focus of the research is on action signs (scenes) that contain connotative meanings, denotative meanings, and myths contained in the film Toxic 2022. The research took seven scenes for analysis. The results obtained by this study show that the character Han Young represents a woman who is like life, that is, in the world of work, and can become a leader. The depiction of the figure of Han Young Ju, who experienced the world of work and became a leader, is explained in gestures, dialogues, actions, expressions, storylines, and shooting.

This research aimed to describe visual meaning in animation movie Pacu Baluluak. study used qualitative descriptive method. This research problem on visual analysis (colour, gesture, and character), with a little review about Pacu Baluluak animation. In order to analyze the data, the researcher used semiotics review by Roland Barthes to define three meaning levels (denotative, connotative, and myth) on some scenes and visual (colour, gesture, and character) in Pacu Baluluak animation documented by the researcher. From the research result, it can be concluded that Pacu Baluluak animation has a good visual communication strategy in creating character, in a form of gesture, colour, and character so that it illustrates a strong character. The moral value in this animation is arranged well with a simple illustration, so that we can easily follow and understand the storyline.

Film berperan sebagai alat komunikasi massa yang berfungsi untuk mempengaruhi penonton berdasrkan isi pesan yang terkandung di dalamnya. Film Enola Holmes 2 merupakan film bergenre misteri yang berlatarkan tahun 1800-an di London Inggris. Film ini menceritakan tentang kejadian di masa lampau di mana pada saat itu para buruh belum mendapatkan kesejahteraan dan hak-hak mereka dalam bekerja. Dari film ini karakter perempuan sekaligus tokoh utamanya digambarkan sebagai subjek narasi aktif yang kerap menyampaikan pesan-pesan feminisme. Topik feminisme menjadi alasan peneliti memilih film ini karena selama ini perempuan hanya digambarkan sebagai objek  yang pasif dalam sebuah film. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode semiotika Roland Barthes. Dalam film ini menggambarkan perempuan yang berada dalam posisi yang tidak menguntungkan akibat kontruksi sosial budaya yang dibangun oleh masyarakat.

Media komunikasi yang efektif menggunakan jenis penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dan metode analisis interpretatif. Sesuai dengan perumusan masalah penelitian yaitu bagaimana pemaknaan lirik lagu “Taylor Swift “ The man” sebagai musisi untuk menyampaikan suatu pesan dalam berkomunikasi sosial dalam analisis semiotika Ferdinand de Saussure, maka yang diteliti atau yang menjadi objek penelitian ini adalah lirik lagu “The Man” Hasil penelitian ini kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis semiotika yang mengacu pada analisis semiotika dengan menggunakan teori yang dikemukakan oleh Saussure. Dalam teori Saussure dijelaskan bahwa tanda memiliki unsur yang saling berhubungan yaitu penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified). Signifier adalah elemen fisik dari tanda dapat berupa tanda, kata, image, dan suara. Sedangkan Signified menunjukkan konsep mutlak yang melekat pada tanda fisik yang ada. Dari hasil penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan bahwa analisis semiotik Saussure ada 5 pandangan dan salah satunya adalah penanda (signifier) dan petanda (signified). Peneliti akan menanyakan beberapa pertanyaan yang mengangkat tentang lirik lagu berjudul “The Man” yang dinyanyikan oleh Taylor Swift.

Poetry is a literary work that contains the expression of the author's heart. Made using beautiful language, it contains meaning, rhythm, rhyme, dimensions and stanzas. Poetry has two main building structures, namely the inner structure and the physical structure. The poem contains several signs, both meanings that must be interpreted directly by the reader, as well as linguistic signs that do not require redefinition. The field that studies and examines signs, symbols and signs is called semiotics. Semiotics is a science or analytical method that studies signs in language or literary works, both linguistic and non-linguistic, with the aim of understanding the meaning to be conveyed by the author as a whole. Language is a complete and perfect sign system. Therefore, language represents something meaning. A semiotic study on the poem "Ibunda by WS. Rendra” is examined using semiotic methods. The purpose of this writing is to find out the meaning of one of WS' poems. Rendra. WS. Rendra is someone with beautiful and meaningful works. The method used in this work is a qualitative descriptive method that analyzes literary works or poetry based on the content of literary works, while the writing technique is literary studies. The results of this study indicate that the poetry written by WS. Rendra has a meaning that can be used as a reference for reader information and can be researched.

Da'wah through film is considered effective because film has advantages that other media do not have. Film media has advantages as a propaganda medium. Da'i in conveying his da'wah message can be played by a player character in a film production, it doesn't have to be a lecture like taklim. Indirectly, the audience does not feel that they are being lectured on. Da'wah messages in films are easier to convey to the public. The research used is qualitative research. This study describes how Roland Barthes's Semiotics analysis is contained in the film "Laa Tahzan" by Danial Rifki. Analysis of the film Laa Tahzan is presented in the form of image fragments using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis. As a Muslim, you can determine a firm stance on invitations to follow the procedures for worship of other religions in a good way. That an Indonesian Muslim can survive in a foreign country (Japan) to be able to defend his faith and the level of trials in life remains the same and will apply as long as we live. It is certain that interfaith marriages will not be possible to realize the Sakinah family as the main purpose of carrying out marriages. In Islam, there are clear laws regarding marriage. Advise everyone who will marry should pay attention to the prospective bride.

Penelitian ini membahas tentang kajian makna yang terkandung dalam puisi yang berjudul “ilusi” karya heri isnaini. Tujuan penelitan ini adalah untuk mengetahui makna yang terkandung disetiap kata pada puisi “ilusi”. Penelitian ini, merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan metode analisis isi. Penelitian ini mendeskripsikan kajian makna yang terkandung dalam puisi “ilusi”. Metode analisis isi, yaitu dengan menggunakan pendekatan semiotika. Pendekatan semiotika digunakan untuk mengetahui bagaimana makna yang terkandung didalam puisi “ilusi” tersebut. Pendekatan semiotika merupakan pendekatan yang berhubungan dengan lapangan tanda yaitu pengertian suatu tanda. Dalam pengertian tanda ada dua yang difokuskan yaitu bentuk tanda biasa disebut dengan penanda, dengan prangko penandanya atau yang ditandai berdasarkan pemaparan terdahulu. Teknik pengumpilam data yang digunakan adalah teknik baca catat dan teknik analisis data. Setelah dilakukan analisis data diperoleh  Kesatu kumpulan puisi “ilusi” secara umum memuat Hasil penelitian semiotika pada puisi “Ilusi” dapat dilihat puisi tersebut menyatakan bahwa mata diibaratkan dengan ilusi diibaratkan dengan benda mati yang hidup. Makna yang terkandung dalam larik-larik tersebut didefinisikan sebagai yang kita lihat tidak sepenuhnya pasti, dalam tanah yang terlihat kosong saja mungkin terdapat suatu hal yang tidak kita tahu. Dan sepi tidak sama dengan kosong karena sepi adalah perasaan tersendiri yang muncul dalam jiwa seseorang, sedangkan kosong, ia adalah ilusi itu sendiri, tidak ada apa-apa, hanya ada udara yang jika bergerak kencang bisa berubah menjadi angin. Dari puisi “ilusi” dapat disimpulkan bahwa yang kita lihat belum tentu pasti.

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan simbol romantisisme pada salah satu puisi karya Heri Isnaini yang berjudul “Aku Membawa Angin”. Konsep romantisisme ini dilatarbelakangi oleh salah satu tokoh romantik dari Belanda yaitu Williem Kloos sebagai aliran filosofi atau konsep kesenian yang mengunggulkan perasaan, intuisi, dan imajinasi yang cenderung pada fenomena dan reaksi alam. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah pada buku “Montase Sepilihan Sajak”. Dalam metodologi penelitiannya menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis dan bersifat kualitatif. Adapun prosedur langkah-langkah yang digunakan untuk pengumpulan data (1) membaca puisi tersebut, (2) mengidentifikasi nilai romantisme dalam puisi, (3) mencatat dan mendeskripsikan nilai romantisme puisi berdasarkan interpretasi dengan pendekatan semiotik yang digagas oleh Charles Sanders Peirce dan terakhir (4) menyusun hasil analisis. Hasil analisis puisi secara tekstual, simbol diksi angin dapat diartikan sebagai media pengirim pesan/perasaan yang diciptakan oleh Tuhan untuk membawa jiwa atau ingatan orang yang sedang kita pikirkan. Jika dikorelaskan dengan salah satu ciri romantisisme berkaitan dengan prinsip kembali ke alam sebagai ekspresi untuk mengemukakan perasaan romantik melalui lanskap imajinasi yang mengerucut pada reaksi-reaksi alam.

Tulisan  ini  bertujuan membahas analisis penanda pada kumpulan puisi  Karya Moon Changgil dengan menggunakan teori semiotik Charles Sanders Peirce berdasarkan objeknya berupa ikon , indeks, dan simbol. Pembahasan tulisan ini berfokus pada aspek tanda yang muncul pada keseluruhan puisi tersebut. Selain itu pembahasan puisi akan memperhatikan relasi (hubungan-hubungan) di antara tanda-tanda yang muncul sehingga dapat menunjukkan tanda (sign) yang mempresentasikan sesuatu yang tidak hadir. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif . Puisi yang dikaji yaitu 3 puisi “Benteng’’, “Bayangan”, dan “Kembang Unifikasi”.Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah teknik membaca dan mencatat. Berdasarkan hasil analisis data yang didasarkan subjek berupa ikon, indeks, dan simbol yang ditemukan dalam Kumpulan puisi Apa yang Diharapkan Rel Kereta Api ini jelas mempunyai representasi  yang memiliki relasi dengan objek baik berupa ikon, indeks, dan simbol. Dalam kajian  ini diperoleh data yaitu sebagian besar teks puisi merupakan indeks,  sebagian kecil teks puisi merupakan ikon, dan terdapat simbol. Pada hubungan judul dan isi teks: judul sebagai indeks dan sebagai ikon bagi isi teks, sedangkan simbol hanya berwujud kata/ frase metaforik. Dari relasi ini muncul interpretant yang jelas akan menghasilkan interpretasi dalam memahami makna puisi tersebut.
