This study investigates language processing in EFL learners from a psycholinguistic perspective, with a focus on lexical access and sentence comprehension. Many EFL learners experience persistent comprehension difficulties despite years of formal instruction. This study aims to explain these difficulties by examining underlying cognitive processes rather than surface-level performance. The research employed a qualitative design involving undergraduate EFL students. Data were collected through think-aloud protocols, semi-structured interviews, reading comprehension tasks, and field notes. The analysis applied thematic procedures to identify patterns related to word retrieval, processing strategies, and sentence parsing. The findings reveal five dominant issues: delayed lexical access, reliance on word-by-word processing, difficulty with complex sentence structures, heavy dependence on first-language translation, and low automaticity in language processing. These factors interacted to increase cognitive load and disrupt real-time comprehension. The results indicate that comprehension failure stems primarily from processing constraints rather than insufficient grammatical knowledge. The study highlights the importance of incorporating psycholinguistic principles into EFL instruction. Teaching practices should prioritize processing efficiency, repeated exposure, and incremental sentence comprehension. By aligning pedagogy with how learners process language cognitively, EFL instruction can become more effective and sustainable.

This study examines how cognitive load influences sentence processing in the comprehension of complex clauses among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners. It aims to explore learners’ perceptions of sentence complexity, their strategies in managing comprehension difficulties, and their awareness of the cognitive effort involved in reading academic texts. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, ten English Education students from a university in Medan, Indonesia, participated in reading tasks containing complex academic sentences. Data were collected through think-aloud protocols and in-depth semi-structured interviews, then analyzed using discourse and thematic analysis to identify linguistic and cognitive patterns. The results indicate that complex sentence structures impose high cognitive demands, especially when multiple clauses and dense syntactic constructions are present. Learners with limited working memory capacity experienced slower reading, repeated rereading, and fragmented comprehension. To cope with these challenges, they employed strategies such as segmentation, rereading, translation, and note-taking, which helped reduce processing strain but did not fully enhance efficiency. The study concludes that comprehension difficulties arise from the interaction between cognitive load, sentence complexity, and working memory limitations, emphasizing the importance of instructional approaches that align linguistic input with learners’ cognitive capacities.

This study explores the psycholinguistic processes underlying foreign language sentence production, focusing on how EFL learners transform thoughts into spoken language. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, twelve English Education students from a university in Medan participated in speaking tasks, think-aloud protocols, and semi-structured interviews. Thematic analysis revealed three major processes: cognitive planning and conceptualization, lexical retrieval and formulation, and monitoring and repair in speech. Learners experienced high cognitive load due to limited working memory, leading to pauses, reformulations, and simplifications during speaking. To cope, they employed compensatory strategies such as segmentation, paraphrasing, and self-correction to maintain communication flow. The findings indicate that fluency and accuracy depend on the balance between linguistic knowledge and cognitive capacity. This study contributes to psycholinguistic understanding by illustrating how thought, language, and cognition interact in real-time sentence production and provides pedagogical implications for promoting automaticity and cognitive awareness in EFL speaking instruction.

This study investigates speech production in EFL classrooms from a psycholinguistic perspective, with a focus on planning and fluency. Many EFL learners experience difficulty speaking fluently even when they possess adequate grammatical and lexical knowledge. This study aims to explain these difficulties by examining the cognitive processes involved in real-time speech production. A qualitative research design was employed involving undergraduate EFL students. Data were collected through classroom speaking tasks, audio recordings, semi-structured interviews, stimulated recall sessions, and field notes. The analysis focused on patterns of speech planning, lexical retrieval, monitoring behavior, and fluency disruption. The findings reveal that excessive planning, slow lexical access, strong focus on form, and low automaticity significantly reduce fluency. Learners often plan and monitor their speech simultaneously, which increases cognitive load and leads to frequent pauses, hesitation, and self-repair. The results indicate that fluency problems stem primarily from processing constraints rather than lack of language knowledge. This study highlights the importance of incorporating psycholinguistic principles into EFL speaking instruction. Teaching practices should address planning load, reduce over-monitoring, and support the development of automaticity to improve spoken fluency.

This study investigates sentence processing difficulties in academic English from a psycholinguistic perspective, focusing on EFL university students. The research aims to identify how learners plan, parse, and interpret complex academic sentences during real-time reading. A qualitative approach was employed to capture cognitive processes underlying comprehension. Data were collected through academic reading tasks, think-aloud protocols, interviews, and stimulated recall sessions. The findings reveal that learners face persistent difficulties when processing syntactically complex sentences, long noun phrases, and multi-clause structures. These difficulties are closely linked to limited working memory capacity, low processing automaticity, and heavy reliance on word-by-word translation strategies. Learners often experience cognitive overload, which leads to slow reading, frequent rereading, and inaccurate interpretation of grammatical relationships. Emotional factors such as anxiety and lack of confidence also interact with cognitive load and further disrupt comprehension. The study concludes that sentence processing problems in academic English are rooted in psycholinguistic constraints rather than insufficient linguistic knowledge. The findings emphasize the need for instructional approaches that focus on improving processing efficiency, syntactic integration, and automaticity in EFL academic reading contexts.

This study examines how causative structures encode meaning in English and Indonesian through a qualitative contrastive analysis. It focuses on differences in agentivity, affectedness, and event structure using authentic written texts from both languages. The findings show that English tends to express causation through explicit and segmented constructions that foreground responsibility, while Indonesian often relies on integrated morphological forms that compress cause and effect. These differences lead to shifts in interpretation and challenges for Indonesian learners of English, particularly in academic writing. The study highlights the importance of meaning based contrastive analysis for understanding cross linguistic variation and improving EFL instruction.

Silent pauses are a frequent feature of second language speech, yet they are often interpreted as signs of low fluency. This study examines silent pauses from a psycholinguistic perspective by focusing on their role in second language sentence planning. Using a qualitative design, the study involved ten undergraduate EFL learners and collected data through oral sentence production tasks and stimulated recall interviews. Speech data were recorded and analyzed to identify silent pauses occurring before and during sentence production, while interview data were used to explore learners’ cognitive processes during these pauses. The findings show that silent pauses function as cognitive resources that support conceptual planning, lexical retrieval, and syntactic organization. Learners used silence deliberately to manage cognitive load and maintain accuracy, although these pauses were often perceived negatively due to pressure to speak fluently. The study reinforces staged models of speech production and challenges narrow definitions of fluency by highlighting silence as an integral part of second language processing. Pedagogically, the findings emphasize the importance of providing thinking time to support more accurate and complex language use.

Sentence complexity is widely regarded as an indicator of second language proficiency, yet many EFL learners struggle to produce structurally complex sentences despite having adequate grammatical knowledge. This study investigates the role of working memory in shaping EFL learners’ sentence complexity from a psycholinguistic perspective. Rather than treating sentence complexity as a purely linguistic outcome, the study examines it as a product of cognitive capacity during language production. Using a qualitative design, the study involved ten undergraduate EFL learners who completed sentence production tasks followed by stimulated recall interviews. The production data were analyzed to identify patterns of sentence complexity, while the interview data were used to explore learners’ cognitive experiences during sentence construction. The findings reveal that working memory strongly constrains learners’ ability to produce complex sentences. When cognitive load increased, learners consistently simplified sentence structure by reducing clause embedding and sentence length. Learners reported difficulty maintaining multiple linguistic elements simultaneously, particularly when lexical retrieval and grammatical organization competed for limited working memory resources. As a result, learners often prioritized meaning clarity and sentence completion over structural complexity. The study also shows that learners were aware of their working memory limitations and consciously adjusted sentence structure to manage cognitive demands. These findings support resource-limited models of language production and highlight working memory as a key factor influencing syntactic performance in EFL contexts. Pedagogically, the study suggests that expectations of sentence complexity should consider cognitive constraints and task conditions. Recognizing the role of working memory can lead to more realistic instruction, better task design, and fairer assessment of learner proficiency.

The management of organic kitchen waste from hotels and restaurants is an increasingly complex environmental problem, especially in tourist areas such as Pangandaran Regency. One innovation in sustainable organic waste management is the utilization of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae through a bioconversion process to produce fresh maggots as high-protein animal feed. This study aims to analyze the effect of the use of BSF larvae in processing organic kitchen waste on the achievement of fresh maggot bioconversion production at the Sahate Main Waste Bank (BSI) in Pangandaran Regency. This study used a causal research design with a quantitative approach. Data collection methods were carried out through field observations and interviews, with data analyzed using normality tests, t-tests, and simple linear regression using SPSS software. During the 10-week research period, the total processed organic kitchen waste reached 44,969 kg, with a fresh maggot production of 5,644 kg. The analysis results showed that the use of BSF larvae had a positive and significant effect on the achievement of fresh maggot bioconversion production, as evidenced by a significance value of 0.001 (<0.05) and a calculated t-value of 8.793 (>2.306). The research findings also indicated that the scale and quality of kitchen organic waste play a significant role in increasing the effectiveness of bioconversion. This study concluded that the use of BSF larvae is an effective and sustainable method in processing kitchen organic waste and has the potential to support waste reduction while meeting the need for high-protein animal feed.

The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into business decision-making processes has significantly transformed corporate operations while simultaneously raising complex legal issues, particularly concerning liability for decisions generated autonomously by algorithmic systems. This study analyzes the legal position of artificial intelligence within Indonesia’s regulatory framework and evaluates the extent to which the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (ITE Law) can serve as a legal basis for accountability when AI-generated decisions result in losses. Employing a normative juridical method with statutory and conceptual approaches, this research examines the classification of AI as an electronic agent and its implications for determining business liability. The analysis demonstrates that, under Indonesian positive law, AI has not yet been recognized as an independent legal subject, resulting in legal responsibility remaining with developers, operators, or business entities that deploy AI systems. Nevertheless, the absence of specific and comprehensive AI regulations creates legal uncertainty, particularly in light of AI’s autonomous operation and opaque decision-making mechanisms. This study concludes that although the ITE Law provides an initial normative foundation for regulating AI-related accountability, it remains insufficient to address the legal complexity, ethical concerns, and risks inherent in AI-driven business decision-making.

This Community Service (PkM) activity was implemented in the form of an entrepreneurship seminar. This seminar strategically raised the theme "Changing the Mindset Shift from Follower to Owner", with the crucial aim of facilitating a paradigm shift in participants from mere passive consumers or followers to active and empowered business owners (owners). The implementation of PkM is based on the reality of the high unemployment rate among educated people and the urgency of global economic challenges that demand mental transformation and strengthening of practical skills. The main target group of this activity included students of entrepreneurship study programs from various universities in East Java as well as representatives of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operating in the Gresik area, ensuring the relevance of the material to academic and practical needs. This seminar featured two credible expert speakers in the field of entrepreneurship. The implementation method focused on interactive delivery of material, followed by a focused discussion session to maximize knowledge absorption. The results achieved showed a significant increase in understanding among participants, not only regarding the importance of instilling an entrepreneurial mindset but also mastery of practical aspects of business, including digital marketing implementation strategies and concrete steps in starting or developing a business unit. Through this intervention, PkM is expected to be able to provide a real contribution to accelerating the creation of new, innovative entrepreneurs and strengthening the sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem in East Java

Individuals with mental disabilities commonly experience difficulties in self-awareness and emotion regulation, which negatively affect social functioning and psychosocial well-being. These conditions were also observed among beneficiaries in the assisted community, who demonstrated limitations in recognizing emotions, expressing feelings, and engaging in social interactions. This community service program aimed to strengthen self-awareness and emotional regulation skills among individuals with mental disabilities through a psychosocial approach. The program employed activity-based psychoeducation using participatory and supportive methods, including emotional recognition training, self-reflection, positive emotional stimulation, and structured group support. The results indicated improvements in beneficiaries’ ability to identify and express basic emotions, increased self-confidence, enhanced emotional stability, and more active social participation. Qualitative observations revealed behavioral changes from passive tendencies to more responsive and cooperative involvement in group activities. These findings suggest that activity-based psychosocial interventions are effective in improving psychosocial well-being among individuals with mental disabilities.

Excessive alcohol consumption, including traditional alcoholic beverages such as Cap Tikus  (alcohol content ±45%) from North Sulawesi, can induce liver damage characterized by steatosis, inflammation, and necrosis. Leilem leaf (Clerodendrum minahassae) extract, rich in phenolic and flavonoid compounds, has potential hepatoprotective effects due to its antioxidant properties. To evaluate the effect of leilem leaf extract on the histopathological features of the liver in Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by Cap Tikus alcoholic beverage. This experimental study used a post-test only control group design with 24 male Wistar rats divided into four groups: normal control, negative control (Cap Tikus 2.16 mL/day), treatment I (leilem extract 150 mg/kgBW + Cap Tikus), and treatment II (leilem extract 300 mg/kgBW + Cap Tikus). Treatments were administered orally for 14 days. Liver tissue was processed for histopathological examination using hematoxylin-eosin staining and observed under a light microscope. The negative control group showed significant steatosis and inflammatory cell infiltration. Treatment groups exhibited reduced steatosis and inflammation, along with increased hepatocyte regeneration. The higher dose (300 mg/kgBW) demonstrated greater hepatoprotective effects and more prominent regeneration compared to the lower dose (150 mg/kgBW). No necrosis or fibrosis was observed in any group. Leilem leaf extract exerts a hepatoprotective effect by suppressing inflammatory responses and enhancing hepatocyte regeneration in Wistar rats induced with Cap Tikus. The highest protective efficacy was observed with leilem leaf extract at 300 mg/kgBW.

General practitioners play a crucial role in the delivery of healthcare services in public hospitals, where limited organizational resources and high service demands often place significant pressure on medical personnel. These conditions may disturb work–life balance, increase the risk of burnout syndrome, and ultimately lead to higher turnover intention. This study aimed to analyze the effect of work–life balance on turnover intention, with burnout syndrome acting as an intervening variable among general practitioners at RSUD Balaraja. An observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was applied, involving all 40 general practitioners working in the emergency department and inpatient units through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using standardized instruments, namely the Work–Life Balance Scale, Maslach Burnout Inventory, and the Intention to Quit Questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using Spearman correlation and Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results revealed a significant relationship between work–life balance and burnout syndrome, as well as between work–life balance and turnover intention. Burnout syndrome was also significantly associated with turnover intention. Further analysis showed that work–life balance had both direct and indirect effects on turnover intention, with burnout syndrome partially mediating this relationship. In conclusion, work–life balance and burnout syndrome are important determinants of turnover intention among general practitioners. Therefore, hospital management should prioritize strategies such as workload regulation, enhanced organizational support, and burnout prevention to retain medical staff and maintain the quality of healthcare services in public hospitals.

This research aims to explore the controversy over the use of religious education in the Indonesian curriculum and its impact on increasing interfaith tolerance among students. This study uses a qualitative approach with unit analysis in schools in Indonesia that implement religious education in their curriculum. The research design used is a case study with the main data sources obtained through in-depth interviews with teachers, principals, and students, as well as the analysis of religious education policy documents. Data collection techniques include interviews, observations, and analysis of religious education policy documents. The data were analysed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns related to the implementation of religious education and tolerance. The findings of the study show that although there are religious education policies that lead to tolerant learning, their implementation is still highly variable and influenced by more exclusive approaches in some areas. The contribution of this research is to provide insight into the importance of designing a religious education curriculum that is more inclusive and based on the values of tolerance, as well as strengthening the role of the community and parents in the teaching process to increase interfaith tolerance in Indonesia.

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a major public health problem in endemic areas, including Olat Rarang Hamlet, Labuhan Sumbawa Village. Effective dengue prevention requires active community involvement supported by entomological surveillance data. This community service activity aimed to enhance community awareness and participation in dengue prevention through the implementation of the 3M Plus Movement integrated with an entomological surveillance approach using the House Index (HI), Container Index (CI), and Breteau Index (BI) indicators. The activity was conducted on December 6, 2025, involving local community members and public health students. The methods included health education, larval surveys in houses and water-holding containers, and community-based mosquito breeding site eradication. The results indicated that houses and containers positive for Aedes larvae were still present, reflecting a moderate risk of dengue transmission. However, the implementation of the 3M Plus Movement improved community knowledge, awareness, and participation in vector control. Integrating the 3M Plus Movement with entomological surveillance is an effective promotive and preventive strategy based on community empowerment for sustainable dengue prevention.

This community service activity aimed to strengthen teachers’ competencies in utilizing digital platforms to support project-based learning at a vocational high school. The background of this activity was the limited ability of teachers to manage project-based learning in a structured and systematic manner using digital platforms. The method employed was participatory mentoring, involving needs analysis, activity planning, implementation of digital platform mentoring, monitoring and evaluation, and reflection with follow-up actions. The participants were teachers of SMK Negeri 1 Tukak Sadai, Bangka Barat. The results indicated an improvement in teachers’ understanding and skills in designing, managing, and evaluating project-based learning using digital platforms. Teachers became more confident in integrating technology into learning processes and demonstrated better organization of project activities. This activity contributed to enhancing teachers’ digital competencies and improving the quality of project-based learning practices in vocational education. The findings suggest that participatory mentoring is an effective approach to supporting sustainable digital learning innovation in vocational schools.

This study investigates the levels of asprosin and irisin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and diabetic nephropathy (DN), and evaluates their relationships with insulin resistance, glycemic control, and renal function. Additionally, it explores their diagnostic performance as potential non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection of DN using ROC curve analysis. A controlled prospective study was conducted involving 130 participants, categorized into healthy controls, T2DM patients, and T2DM with DN. Serum asprosin, irisin, and insulin levels were measured using ELISA, while biochemical and renal parameters such as fasting blood glucose, HbA1c, creatinine, urea, and eGFR were assessed using standard spectrophotometric techniques. ROC analysis was employed to assess the diagnostic accuracy of asprosin and irisin. Asprosin levels were significantly elevated, while irisin levels were markedly reduced in DN patients compared to T2DM and control groups (p < 0.001). Moreover, DN patients exhibited higher levels of fasting glucose, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, creatinine, and urea, with lower eGFR, indicating substantial renal dysfunction. ROC analysis revealed that asprosin had an AUC of 0.910 (95% CI: 0.839–0.981), with 90.0% sensitivity and 88.9% specificity at a cutoff value of 11.27 ng/mL. Irisin showed an AUC of 0.886 (95% CI: 0.812–0.960), with 95.0% sensitivity and 71.1% specificity at a 158.25 ng/mL cutoff. Asprosin and irisin are strongly associated with insulin resistance and renal impairment in patients with T2DM and DN. Their high diagnostic performance supports their utility as promising non-invasive biomarkers for the early detection and monitoring of diabetic nephropathy progression.

Arabica coffee (Coffea arabica) contains various bioactive compounds such as caffeine, polyphenols, flavonoids, and alkaloids that have the potential to produce diverse pharmacological effects on both the autonomic and central nervous systems. The variation in its chemical composition is influenced by factors such as cultivar, post-harvest processing, and preparation methods, resulting in biological responses that are dose-dependent and not always linear. This study aimed to evaluate the pharmacological activity of arabica coffee simplicia powder at three concentrations (1%, 2%, and 4%) by observing parasympathomimetic, parasympatholytic, sympathomimetic, sympatholytic, analeptic, central nervous system stimulation and depression, as well as muscle relaxation parameters. The research was conducted using a laboratory experimental design with test animals administered orally according to the designated concentrations. The results showed that some parameters increased at higher concentrations, such as parasympathomimetic activity (51.85%) and central nervous system stimulation (63.74%), while other parameters demonstrated decreasing or biphasic patterns, such as sympatholytic activity, which was high at 1% and 4% but low at 2%, and analeptic activity, which dropped sharply at 2% and increased again at 4%. These response patterns align with literature indicating that caffeine and polyphenols such as chlorogenic acid may interact synergistically or antagonistically, generating complex pharmacological effects through mechanisms involving adenosine modulation, excitatory neurotransmitters, the enteric nervous system, as well as antioxidant and anti-inflammatory pathways. Overall, this study demonstrates that arabica coffee simplicia exhibits multipotential pharmacological activity, with responses strongly influenced by concentration and the composition of its bioactive compounds, thereby providing a basis for further research on the phytopharmaceutical potential of arabica coffee.

Smartphone addiction refers to excessive smartphone use that can have physical and psychological impacts. The purpose of this study was to provide psychoeducation to increase knowledge about self-management in an effort to reduce smartphone addiction. This study used a pre-experimental research design with a one-group pretest-posttest design on 32 students. Data collection used the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version questionnaire and additional questionnaires developed by the researcher. The results of the paired sample t-test showed an increase in scores after the psychoeducational intervention (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that psychoeducation can be used as an effective approach to preventing and reducing smartphone addiction in adolescents. These findings can provide new insights into the importance of preventing smartphone addiction through psychological and educational approaches that can be applied in the context of adolescent education and health. This study makes an important contribution to the prevention and management of smartphone addiction, with implications for the development of psychoeducational programs that can be implemented in educational and health settings to support adolescent well-being.
