This study explores the use of referential expressions in six selected songs from NIKI Zefanya’s 2024 album Buzz. Using a qualitative descriptive method and Halliday and Hasan’s theory of reference, the research aims to identify the types of referential expressions used in the lyrics and analyze their contribution to meaning and emotional impact. The findings reveal a total of 74 referential expressions, consisting of 53 personal references, 9 demonstrative references, and 12 comparative references. Personal references, such as I, you, and my, are the most dominant and function to express intimacy, personal emotion, and connection with the listener. Demonstrative references, like this and that, help point to emotional states or symbolic meanings. Comparative references, including like, better, and too much, are used to express metaphor, contrast, or emotional intensity. The study concludes that referential expressions not only serve grammatical functions but also shape how meaning is constructed in song lyrics. These expressions enhance narrative clarity, emotional depth, and listener engagement, showing that even small linguistic choices can have a strong impact on how music is experienced and understood.

The present study aims to identify and analyse idiomatic expressions in the lyrics of "Shake It Off" by Taylor Swift. Idioms are a form of non literal expression which often pose a challenge for English language learners, due to the fact that their literal meanings are not easily discernible. Utilising a descriptive qualitative approach, this research analyses idioms based on Makkai's (1972) classification, which includes six types: phrasal verb idioms, tournure idioms, irreversible binomial idioms, phrasal compound idioms, incorporating verb idioms, and pseudo idioms. The findings indicate that the composition is replete with idiomatic usage, reflecting emotional meanings and social messages implicitly. A total of fourteen idioms were identified, which serve to reinforce Taylor Swift's stylistic language and make the song an effective and contextual medium for the purposes of English language learning. It is anticipated that these findings will contribute to the development of language teaching, particularly with regard to the comprehension of idiomatic meaning within the context of popular culture.

Child faith accompaniment plays a central role in the future development of children’s faith, making it the chosen initial teaching to prepare for a more mature faith development within a tiered faith formation. However, in the context of child faith accompaniment, there is currently no song themed on the Catholic Creed that can be taught to children, including at the Holy Family Parish Atmodirono Semarang, which has never used a song with this theme. This study aims to develop a child faith accompaniment (PIA) song themed on the introduction of the Catholic Creed to provide children with a deeper understanding of the Catholic Creed. The research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model (Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) to analyze the needs of PIA, design the product, conduct trials, and evaluate it to ensure a positive impact on children’s faith education. Initial analysis showed that there was no existing song media introducing the basic Catholic faith in PIA activities. In the design phase, the researcher composed lyrics and melodies relevant to Catholic teachings, using key phrases from the “I Believe” prayer, adjusted to be easily understood by children. The development phase involved a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with PIA practitioners and music experts. Subsequently, the song was trialed during Minggu Gembira activities and evaluated for improvements. The implementation of the song titled “I am Catholic, I Believe” showed positive impact. Observations revealed that children were enthusiastic, listened attentively, endeavored to understand, memorize, and sing the song together. Evaluation results showed an improvement in scores from 79% to 95.8%. Based on this increase, it can be concluded that the song “I am Catholic, I Believe” is highly effective and can be used as a child faith accompaniment medium to help children understand the meaning of the “I Believe” prayer as the Catholic Creed, as well as strengthen their understanding of the core teachings of Catholicism.

This study explores how love metaphors are expressed in three selected songs: Guilty as Sin, The Alchemy, and But Daddy I Love Him, from Taylor Swift's The Tortured Poets Department album. Language plays a crucial role in conveying abstract emotions like love, and metaphor is a powerful tool for articulating complex feelings in song lyrics. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, the research analyzes the lyrics through Lakoff and Johnson’s conceptual metaphor theory, categorizing metaphors into structural, ontological, and orientational types. Data were collected by closely reading the lyrics and noting metaphorical expressions, which were then interpreted within their emotional and thematic contexts. The findings reveal that ontological and structural metaphors dominate, portraying love as poetic storytelling and an evolving emotional journey, while no orientational metaphors were identified. This study highlights how Taylor Swift employs metaphorical language to capture the multifaceted nature of love, heartbreak, and personal transformation, demonstrating the significant role of metaphor in shaping emotional meaning in contemporary popular music.

This study examines the poem Sajak Sebatang Lisong by W.S. Rendra through a postcolonial lens, focusing on the underlying social criticism embedded within the text. The poem reflects the persistent social inequalities that continue to affect Indonesian society in the post-independence era, particularly in the realms of education and the marginalization of impoverished children. Through symbols such as the cigarette (lisong), wealthy elites (cukong), and the imagery of an endless road, the poem highlights the lingering presence of colonial structures within contemporary social and educational systems. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the study utilizes textual analysis and socio-cultural context as primary analytical tools. The findings reveal that political independence has not been fully accompanied by social justice. Structural oppression and limited opportunities continue to hinder the younger generation in their pursuit of a better future. As such, the poem serves as a powerful literary critique of neocolonial practices and ongoing social alienation. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of how literature can reflect colonial legacies and the socio-political dynamics of post-independence Indonesia, while also enriching the discourse in postcolonial literary studies.

This study describes the morpho-stylistic and the semantic-stylistic features used in the top four songs of Arctic Monkeys’ AM album, namely, “I Wanna Be Yours,” “Do I Wanna Know?”, “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” and “No. 1 Party Anthem.” This research conducted using a qualitative descriptive method derived from the linguistic deviation theory by Leech analyses of the lyrical texts for their morphological and semantic deviations like informal contractions, neologism, objectification, metaphors and irony. Taking language out of the box, the findings show that Arctic Monkeys have consistently broken linguistic norms in order to produce emotionality, stylistic nuance and lyrical uniqueness. These deviations greatly enhance the band’s lyrical identity of poetic and aesthetic qualities.

This study examines the legal uncertainty regarding the status of adopted children as heirs within Indonesia’s pluralistic national inheritance legal system. The Civil Inheritance Law (KUH Perdata), Islamic Inheritance Law (KHI), and Customary Inheritance Law each regulate adopted children differently and incompletely, thereby creating a legal vacuum. that harms adopted children socially and emotionally. This study aims to analyze the weaknesses of these three legal systems and formulate a reconstruction of the status of adopted children based on substantive justice. Using a normative approach and the theories of legal reconstruction, substantive justice, and legal certainty, this study finds that reconstruction can be achieved through strengthening the mandatory will (wasiat wajibah), revising Article 209 of the KHI, and codifying and unifying national inheritance law through an Omnibus Law model. The parameters of justice used include the best interests of the child, public welfare, and non-discrimination. In conclusion, the reconstruction of the status of adopted children as heirs is urgently needed to fill the gaps in national inheritance law in a just manner.

This study examines in depth the history and development of Kaing Lunggi—the local term for songket cloth—in the Sambas region, West Kalimantan. This study has two main focuses. First, tracing the history of the cloth and textile trade in Southeast Asia that became the background for the entry of external influences into the Sambas region. Second, understanding how Kaing Lunggi emerged, developed, and transformed within the social, economic, and cultural contexts of the local community. Using a historical approach and textile cultural analysis, this study positions Kaing Lunggi as a cultural product born from the dynamics of regional trade since the Sambas Sultanate era. Historical records show that trade networks during that period connected Sambas with major trading centers such as Malacca, Singapore, and the coastal areas of Borneo. Through this route, there was an exchange of raw materials, weaving techniques, and decorative motifs that were then adapted by local artisans. The process of aculturation is visible in Kaing Lunggi motifs that combine local elements with external influences, such as typical Indonesian flora and fauna combined with geometric patterns and typical Malay stylization. The songket weaving technique demonstrates high skill and has been passed down through generations, making it an important part of intangible cultural heritage. Besides its economic value as a trade commodity, Kaing Lunggi also holds a symbolic role. It is worn in various traditional ceremonies, religious celebrations, and as a marker of social status in Sambas society. The use of color, gold thread, and the complexity of the motifs serve as indicators of the wearer's identity and prestige. The results of this study confirm that traditional textiles such as Kaing Lunggi function not only as cultural artifacts but also as active agents in shaping the history and identity of the community. They represent cross-cultural encounters and serve as evidence of the resilience of local traditions amidst globalization.

This study aims to analyze the song “Bayar Bayar Bayar” using the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach based on Teun A. van Dijk’s model. The song was selected due to its explicit criticism of corruption and abuse of power within the Indonesian police institution. The analysis covers three main dimensions in Van Dijk’s theory: discourse structure (macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure), social cognition, and social context. The analysis reveals that thematically, the song represents the collective experience of society in facing bureaucratic injustice, particularly in the form of illegal levies by the authorities. Its repetitive and straightforward superstructure strengthens the main message. At the microstructural level, the use of direct language, punk-styled stylistics, and the rhetorical repetition of “bayar polisi” (pay the police) create a provocative effect and reinforce the social critique being delivered. In terms of social cognition, the song reflects the public's mental model of the police as an institution that perpetuates social inequality rather than acting as a neutral protector. From a social context perspective, the song emerges from the reality of unequal power relations between citizens and authorities, serving as a symbolic form of resistance against hegemonic power structures. “Bayar Bayar Bayar” is thus not only a musical work but also an ideological expression with critical discourse value in advocating for social justice.

The exploitation of children by parents through forced begging is a serious violation of children's rights protected by national law. This study aims to analyze legal protection for children based on Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection and the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP). The research method used is normative juridical with a statutory approach. The analysis shows that the state firmly prohibits the exploitation of children and imposes criminal sanctions on parents who force their children to beg. This protection includes both preventive and repressive measures. The Penal Code also strengthens child protection through provisions regarding criminal acts against minors. However, the implementation faces obstacles such as economic conditions, cultural factors, and lack of supervision. Strengthening legal enforcement and raising public awareness are necessary to ensure that child protection is effectively carried out. This study concludes that although legal instruments are available, concrete steps are still needed to eliminate child exploitation practices within the family environment.
