This study aims to reveal the value of struggle in the novel The Darkest Side of Heaven by Brian Khrisna through a sociological literary approach. This novel reflects the lives of lower-class people in Jakarta who live under social, economic, and cultural pressures. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literature study approach. Data are analyzed based on the content of the text that describes the values of the struggle of the characters in the novel. The results of the study show that there are two main values of struggle, namely the value of being willing to sacrifice and the value of never giving up. The value of being willing to sacrifice is reflected in characters such as Sobirin, Juleha, Kuncahyo, and a father who is willing to put aside self-esteem, comfort, and personal needs for the sake of his family. Meanwhile, the value of never giving up is seen from Juleha and Tomi's persistence in facing poverty, as well as Kuncahyo's spirit who continues to work hard even in inhumane conditions. This novel illustrates that the struggle of marginalized people is not only about survival, but also shows strong social values, such as love, sacrifice, solidarity, and optimism. This study confirms that literature functions as a mirror of social reality and a means to foster empathy and social awareness towards the lives of marginalized communities in big cities.

This article explores the relevance of the contemporary church through the lens of systematic theology by examining the concepts of visibility (the church’s tangible presence) and invisibility (its spiritual and unseen essence). The topic is crucial as many churches today face a tension between their social engagement and their spiritual identity. The central issue addressed in this research is how the church can maintain its theological integrity while remaining visibly active and impactful in an ever-changing society. This study employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach, analyzing theological texts, academic articles, and biblical references to investigate ecclesiological perspectives on integrating visibility and invisibility. The data is analyzed descriptively and reflectively to identify theological patterns and practical implications for the life of the church today. The findings reveal that a relevant church is one that successfully integrates both visible and invisible dimensions. Visibility is essential for contextual engagement with the world, while invisibility sustains spiritual depth and fidelity to Christ. This integration results in a church that is actively present in society, while also rooted in holiness, love, and prophetic mission. The study recommends that churches engage in theological reflection to reassess their identity and ministry to remain relevant without losing their spiritual direction.

This study analyzes the representation of psychological trauma and collective memory in the novel Laut Bercerita by Leila S. Chudori through the psychoanalytic approach of Sigmund Freud and Maurice Halbwachs’ theory of collective memory. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method with content analysis techniques applied to the text. The findings reveal that the trauma experienced by the main character, Biru Laut, reflects internal conflicts among the id, ego, and superego, as well as the emergence of various defense mechanisms such as repression, sublimation, and acting out. Trauma is portrayed not only as an individual experience but also as a collective wound affecting families and communities, which manifests in symbolic actions like the Kamisan protest. The novel serves as a cathartic space and cultural archive that voices historical wounds while advocating for justice and social recovery. Thus, Laut Bercerita functions not only as a literary work but also as a reflective medium for understanding and preserving the nation's collective trauma.

. Advertisement is a communication tool containing symbolic messages to shape consumer perception and persuade behavior. One of the notable advertisements is the herbal product Tolak Angin, with the slogan “Orang Pintar Minum Tolak Angin”. The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of the messages contained in the slogan and how this advertisement forms a consumer image through the symbols and narratives conveyed. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature review method and Roland Barthes' semiotic theory as an analysis knife. This theory is used to see meaning through three layers, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. Tolak Angin advertisements are analyzed based on visual elements, character expressions, colors, verbal text, and other symbols that appear in the broadcast. The result shows that the advertisement constructs an image of a smart, modern, and health-conscious consumer through symbolic representation. It also creates a myth that consuming herbal medicine is a sign of intelligence and awareness of healthy living.
