This study investigates the types of slang terms found in the movie Dope by classifying them based on their linguistic characteristics and communicative functions. Using Green’s (2002) Slang Theory, the research identifies and categorizes slang into five types: innovative, group-identifying, evasive, reactive, and playful slang. A qualitative descriptive method was applied, with data collected through documentation and analyzed by examining how each slang type is formed and used in context. The findings reveal that innovative slang was the most frequently used, illustrating the dynamic and creative nature of youth language. By focusing on linguistic structure and function rather than cultural context, this study provides insights into how slang operates as a form of informal communication within media. The analysis demonstrates that slang in Dope serves various linguistic purposes such as expressing identity, humor, secrecy, and emotional response, contributing to a broader understanding of informal language use in modern youth discourse.

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Poetry Album as a learning medium for teaching poetry writing to eighth-grade students in Cilacap Regency, Indonesia. Utilizing a qualitative exploratory approach, the research was conducted in three public junior high schools, involving 192 students and three Indonesian language teachers. Data were collected through participatory observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation of students' works, and were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis model. The results indicate that 96-98% of students enjoyed using this media, and the average scores of students' poetry ranged from 82 to 88. These findings suggest that the Poetry Album can enhance students' motivation, emotional engagement, and poetry writing skills. Furthermore, this media has proven effective in enriching the learning process aesthetically and creatively, in line with Rosenblatt's (1995) aesthetic response theory and Vygotsky's (1978) constructivist theory. Thus, the Poetry Album is relevant for aesthetic-based literary learning in secondary schools.

This research explores positive politeness strategies in the 2020 film All the Bright Places by analyzing the characters' dialogue. It is based on Brown and Levinson's (1987) theory of positive politeness, supported by Halliday and Hasan's (1989) context of situation framework. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study analyzes the film script. Data is collected through documentation, including note-taking and recording techniques, to identify relevant utterances. The findings show that fourteen out of fifteen positive politeness strategies from Brown and Levinson's theory appear in the film. Strategy 4, which uses in-group identity markers, is the most common. The characters often try to build solidarity and emotional connection. Other frequently used strategies include noticing the listener, offering or promising, and seeking agreement. These strategies reflect the characters' efforts to build and maintain relationships, show empathy, and manage social interactions. The study concludes that positive politeness strategies are essential in shaping the film's interpersonal relationships and emotional development. Overall, the research highlights how language use in film reflects psychological and social aspects of communication, offering insights into the role of pragmatics in fictional narratives.

The study aimed to identify and analyze the errors made by seventh-grade students at SMP Dwijendra Denpasar in pronouncing certain English consonants, which are essential components of their target language learning. The study specifically focuses on the student’s articulation of six English contoid consonants: [ʃ], [ʧ], [θ], [ʒ], [ʤ], and [ð]. A qualitative descriptive method was applied in this research, involving several stages: collecting data from the students as research subjects, organizing and constructing the data for analysis, interpreting the results, and drawing relevant conclusions. The research findings revealed that no students could pronounce the targeted consonants accurately according to standard English pronunciation norms. The articulation errors were mainly caused by various influencing factors, including interlingual transfer, where the students’ first language interferes with their pronunciation of English sounds, and intralingual factors, which refer to difficulties arising from the complexities within the English language. However, the mispronunciation of key consonant sounds created misunderstandings and affected the clarity of their spoken language. As a result, these errors posed a challenge in achieving effective oral communication as a critical aspect of mastering a second language. The findings emphasized the importance of addressing these pronunciation challenges through targeted interventions and improved teaching strategies to enhance students’ language proficiency and communication skills.

This study aims to analyze the ibdal rule in Arabic word derivation with an integrative approach between traditional methods and modern linguistics. The ibdal rule, namely the change of one letter into another letter in a word, has long been a concern in classical Arabic studies. The traditional approach views ibdal as part of an effort to maintain the purity and beauty of the Arabic language, based on oral history, analysis of ancient poetry, and readings of the Qur'an. Meanwhile, modern linguistics views ibdal as a rational phonological phenomenon, occurring due to phonetic considerations, ease of articulation, and social dynamics. Through an integrative study, this study found that a comprehensive understanding of ibdal can only be achieved by combining an appreciation of classical Arabic heritage with scientific analysis based on modern phonology and morphology. The results of this study indicate that ibdal is not only linguistic, but also reflects the vitality of the Arabic language in responding to changes in the times. The integration of these two approaches also has an impact on the development of curriculum, teaching methods, and the expansion of Arabic language research space towards a more interdisciplinary direction. This study emphasizes the importance of building a scientific attitude that respects tradition while being open to renewal in Arabic studies. Thus, it is hoped that this research can be a significant contribution to the development of Arabic linguistic studies in a contemporary academic context.

This study is entitled The Translation Strategies Of “Gift” From English Into Indonesian Applied In The Subtitle Of The Movie Encanto. This study aims to find out the subtitling strategies applied in translating the Indonesian subtitle of an English movie Encanto and analyze the translation equivalence of the movie subtitle. The data were taken from the Indonesian subtitle of Encanto movie using the streaming movie platform Disney+ Hotstar. The data were collected using the documentation method with a note-taking technique. Descriptive methods with qualitative approaches were used to analyze the data. All the data collected is based on the Theory of Subtitling Strategies according to Gottlieb (1992) and the Theory of Translation Equivalence according to Nida (1964). The result of the analysis shows that only six of ten subtitling strategies and the analysis shows two combinations of subtitling strategies were applied by the translator in the subtitle translation. Transfer strategy is the most frequently used. The result of the data shows that the translation of Encanto’s movie subtitle is equivalent. It shows that Formal equivalence appears more than Formal equivalence. Another finding in this research is that the translator could use more than two strategies in English movies with Spanish culture.

This research explores the use of inflectional affixes in Book #88 Love Life 03 by Diana Rikasari, using Victoria Fromkin’s morphological framework. Inflectional affixes are suffixes added to words to express grammatical features such as tense, number, possession, aspect, and degree, without changing the word’s original class or core meaning. The purpose of this research is to identify and analyze the types and functions of these affixes within the selected text. The research used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data was collected through documentation and analyzed using note-taking and cross-checking techniques to ensure accuracy. The results show that all eight standard English inflectional affixes were found in the book: -s (plural and third-person-singular), -ed (past-tense), -ing-(progressive), -en (past participle),--’s (possessive), -er (comparative), and -est (superlative). Each affix was used to mark specific grammatical functions and was essential in maintaining proper sentence structure. The analysis highlights that inflectional affixes play a key role in creating clear and grammatically correct sentences. Understanding their use helps readers and language learners grasp how meaning and structure are expressed in written English. This research supports the importance of morphological analysis in understanding how language functions at the word level and contributes to effective communication.

This study explores the representation and subversion of gender norms in the film Clueless (1995), directed by Amy Heckerling, using Judith Butler's theory of gender performativity. The film blends teen humor with social critique on class, identity, and gender, illustrating how gender identities are constructed and performed through characters such as Cher, Tai, and Christian. By analyzing these characters’ performances, the study reveals how gender is not a fixed identity but a dynamic social construct shaped by repeated actions and societal expectations. Fashion plays a pivotal role in this performativity, highlighting gender as both a stylized performance and a marker of individuality. Additionally, the subversion of traditional masculinity and the critique of gender norms through humor offer alternative portrayals of gender roles. The study concludes that Clueless challenges and redefines gender identities, reinforcing the idea that gender is fluid and performative, thus providing a powerful tool for critiquing and reshaping societal norms.
