Pragmatics can generally be defined as the study of language use in context. This means that someone can be said to have pragmatic skills if they can use language in context appropriately. The students who are currently studying at SMA Fonts Vitae 1 Jakarta are teenagers who are included in the Alpha generation. The Alpha generation's exposure to English and technology makes them quickly rich in information. Therefore, providing English language skills, especially pragmatic skills to the Alpha generation, is very important. This pragmatic skill is important to be taught to students in Indonesia so that they can negotiate with partners from abroad, and welcome foreign tourists without misunderstanding. In the 'Community Service' (ABDIMAS) activity that featured the writer, the presentation and training on negotiation took place at SMA Fonts Vitae 1, Jakarta. The results of the activity showed that the participants were fluent in conversing in English (fluent), but in the negotiation stage participants still experienced obstacles in the crunch time phase. Participants needed time to reach an agreement because the negotiations they conducted focused on the goal of 'defeating' the opponent's argument. Thus, it is important for teachers not only to focus on fluency in speaking but also to train sensitivity to be able to reach a mutual agreement.

So, this research focuses more on analyzing the effectiveness of sentences contained in news text excerpts. The purpose of this study is to describe the effectiveness of sentences in news texts for critical reading of grade IX junior high school students. This type of research is qualitative research with descriptive method while the research data collection uses literature study techniques, namely listening and noting. The results of this study prove that sentence analysis shows the existence of effective sentences and ineffective sentences. Sentences are classified as effective if they meet several requirements, namely structural equivalence, word economy, accuracy of reasoning and logicality of language. Meanwhile, ineffective sentences are caused by the structure of the sentence not being unified, not parallel, and very wasteful or wordy. The practical benefit obtained is the ease of determining the effectiveness of sentences in news texts. The data taken in this research is in the form of effective sentences contained in CNN news articles about the February edition of the election for critical reading of grade IX junior high school students.

This research presents an in-depth analysis of various types of English syllables, including closed, open, vowel-consonant-e, vowel team, r-controlled, and consonant-le syllables. Each type of syllable has unique characteristics that contribute to the structure and pronunciation of words in English. Closed syllables produce short vowel sounds due to the ending consonant, while open syllables result in long vowel sounds due to the ending vowel. Vowel-consonant-e syllables involve a vowel followed by a consonant and a silent 'e,' which lengthens the vowel sound. Vowel team syllables consist of two vowels that together produce a single vowel sound, while r-controlled syllables involve a vowel followed by the letter 'r,' which alters the vowel sound. Consonant-le syllables, typically found at the end of words, provide a distinctive rhythm and flow. This study demonstrates that a theoretical understanding of syllable types has significant implications for phonics instruction and language education. Phonics instruction based on syllable patterns can enhance reading fluency and spelling proficiency. The analysis also reveals phonological diversity in English, reflecting the language's adaptability and complexity. Understanding syllable structures also provides insights into how the brain processes language, which is crucial for developing effective language teaching strategies.
