This study aims to analyze the role of local governments in the implementation of sustainable development policies in urban areas. Using a qualitative approach through case study methods, data were collected via in-depth interviews with local government officials, focus group discussions with community members, and analysis of policy documents and local development reports. The findings indicate that local governments play a vital role in creating positive impacts on the environment and the quality of life for residents through various implemented programs, such as integrated waste management systems, the development of green open spaces, and sustainable transportation policies. Despite significant progress, this research also identifies challenges faced by local governments, including funding limitations, a lack of community education, and the need for improved inter-agency coordination. To enhance their effectiveness in achieving sustainable development goals, local governments must address these challenges through increased budget allocations, educational campaigns to raise community awareness, and strengthened collaboration among agencies. By taking these steps, local governments can be more effective in realizing sustainable development and ensuring a better quality of life for urban residents. This research provides important insights for policymakers and practitioners in their efforts to create sustainable and responsive urban communities.

Waste management is a significant issue in Indonesia, including in Indramayu Regency, with the volume of waste increasing annually, necessitating proper handling to mitigate its negative impact on health. This study focuses on waste management at Ma'had Al-Zaytun from the perspectives of Regional Regulation No. 12 of 2016 of Indramayu Regency and Islamic law. A qualitative research method was employed, utilizing observation, interviews, and document analysis, with qualitative data analysis techniques. The findings indicate that waste management at Ma'had Al-Zaytun aligns with Article 15 of the Regional Regulation by implementing waste reduction through limiting plastic use and recycling, and waste handling through sorting, collecting, transporting, and processing food waste. However, the use of open dumping and incineration methods requires further evaluation to enhance effectiveness and minimize negative impacts. From the perspective of Islamic law, waste management at Ma'had Al-Zaytun complies with the principles of Fiqh Al-Biah, which emphasize environmental preservation, pollution prevention, reducing excessive consumption through recycling, and reforestation through tree planting—reflecting a commitment to creating an eco-friendly Islamic educational environment.

Real Work Lecture (KKN) is a community service program by students that aims to empower the community with a cross-disciplinary and sectoral approach. The KKN program in Telaga Jernih Village, Secanggang District, Langkat Regency, aims to overcome the problem of monotonous hereditary livelihoods and open up new business opportunities through economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. Before the program was implemented, most villagers relied on the agricultural sector, especially oil palm and rice, which made the village economy vulnerable to price fluctuations and environmental conditions. This program focused on socialization about livelihood diversification, entrepreneurial skills training, and reducing plastic waste by converting it into products with economic value. Through this training, the community was invited to see local potential that could be developed into new business opportunities. The results of the implementation of this KKN showed an increase in community understanding of the importance of business diversification and the application of skills acquired in starting small businesses in the fields of agricultural processing and plastic waste recycling. Several residents have started new businesses supported by the skills taught during the training. However, several challenges such as low digital literacy and limited access to capital are still obstacles to business development. Therefore, a follow-up program is needed that focuses on developing digital skills and access to capital to support the sustainability of the business that has been pioneered. Overall, this KKN program has succeeded in providing a positive impact on the Telaga Jernih Village community and can be a model for local potential-based economic empowerment in other villages.

Paopao Village, Tanete Rilau District, Barru Regency, is one of the centers of cattle farming, as well as one of the sub-districts that received an allocation of Limited Production Forest management so that community groups who are members of the Forest Farmer Group (FFG) can apply the Agroforestry agricultural pattern, which was later developed into an Agrosylvopastura pattern with the management of animal feed crops. During this time, traditional livestock breeding communities still rely on natural feed and plant waste which is increasingly difficult to obtain,in extreme climatic conditions. Plant management in the Agroforestry system is also not optimal. The Community Empowerment Activity implements training and counseling activities as well as a demoplot of Agroforestry management management based on the application of environmentally friendly and sustainable Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) principles in Paopao village, to increase Agroforestry yields.  The method applied at this stage of activities is through the principle of learning by doing, starts from Problem Identification, Planning and Implementation program, and Evaluation of Success and Assistance for Sustainability. In addition to being equipped with knowledge of the implementation of GAP Principles, a demonstration plot for breeding and maintaining Indigofera sp. feed plants, as well as the practice of making complete cattle feed (Complete Feed) so that the community is able to process various natural ingredients into a complete feed formulation. Community empowerment was improved through counseling and training on livestock and crop management. Successful activities increase community knowledge in managing Agroforestry and Agrosylvopastura in an integrated manner based on GAP, as well as the technical ability to make complete feed formulations for cattle in a sustainable manner.
