The rise in Value Added Tax (VAT) from 11% to 12%, which was put into effect in January 2025, has elicited a range of reactions from Indonesian households, particularly those in the urban middle class. This research intends to investigate the effects of the VAT change on consumption habits among this group. Information was gathered through a survey conducted with 400 households in Jakarta, Surabaya, and Bandung utilizing a stratified random sampling technique. A quantitative analysis was performed using multiple linear regression. The findings indicate that while the overall tax burden on basic consumption did not rise significantly due to various mitigating measures, the public's perception of the VAT hike still resulted in a decline in spending—particularly on non-essential items and services. This result underscores the importance of fiscal perception in influencing household consumption patterns. The study suggests that fiscal transparency, public awareness campaigns, and compensatory policies are essential for preserving middle-class purchasing power during initiatives aimed at enhancing national tax revenue.

The life insurance industry plays a strategic role in the national financial system, not only as a provider of protection against life risks such as premature death or critical illness, but also as an instrument of long-term fund accumulation. Increased public awareness of the importance of risk protection has driven significant growth in the number of active policies. This condition has a direct impact on the risk exposure of claims that must be carefully managed by insurance companies. One of the main challenges in risk management is to accurately estimate the number of claims in a certain period, to support premium setting, technical reserve planning, and maintain the company's financial stability. This study aims to examine the use of Poisson regression model in estimating the frequency of life insurance claims based on the number of active policies in life insurance company. The data used is simulative and represents an exponential relationship between the number of policies and claims. The model is analyzed using the Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) approach and evaluated through goodness-of-fit indicators such as deviance, Pearson chi-square, log-likelihood, and Mean Squared Error (MSE). The results of the analysis show that the Poisson regression model can capture the significant relationship pattern between the number of active policies and claims, and provide accurate prediction results. Thus, Poisson regression is proven to be a relevant and applicable statistical method in supporting strategic decision-making in insurance companies, especially in the context of data-driven risk management.

Early science education has a strategic role in forming critical and innovative thinking patterns in children as a provision to face challenges in the era of globalization and technological advancement. However, the implementation of the scientific approach at the early childhood education (PAUD) and elementary school levels still faces various obstacles, such as limited teacher knowledge, lack of contextual learning facilities, and teaching methods that tend to be one-way. In fact, childhood is a phase of cognitive development that is very potential to foster curiosity and scientific thinking skills. The low science literacy scores of Indonesian students in international studies indicate the need for intervention from an early age. Therefore, community service programs that aim to build a foundation for children's science from an early age are very important. This program includes teacher training, development of learning media, and exploratory activities based on simple experiments that are appropriate to the world of children. Through this approach, it is hoped that a young generation can be created who not only understand science conceptually, but also have the ability to think critically, creatively, and find solutions in facing problems in the future.

Microplastics have emerged as a serious threat to tropical marine ecosystems in Indonesia, particularly in coastal areas with dense populations, major river estuaries, and busy shipping routes. This study aims to develop a predictive model of microplastic dispersion using partial differential equations based on ocean current data. The data set includes ocean currents derived from satellite imagery, global oceanographic models, and field observations, combined with information on microplastic sources from coastal human activities. The modeling process was conducted through numerical simulations using the finite difference method, taking into account geographic boundary conditions and numerical stability. The results indicate that the spatial distribution of microplastics is strongly influenced by seasonal current patterns closely associated with the Asian-Australian monsoon system. Microplastic concentrations tend to increase in areas with closed circulation and complex marine topography, with the highest accumulation identified in the Makassar Strait and the Java Sea. These findings highlight the critical role of ocean currents and other oceanographic factors in governing the transport and accumulation of microplastics in tropical seas. Ecologically, the outcomes suggest serious risks for coastal ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and the fisheries sector that supports Indonesia’s coastal communities. The implications of this study emphasize the need for more comprehensive marine environmental management strategies, strengthened field monitoring, and the integration of scientific models into plastic pollution control policies.
