Women’s representation in legislative institutions is an important indicator for assessing the quality of democracy and gender equality in a political system. Indonesia has implemented an affirmative policy requiring a minimum quota of 30% female candidates in legislative elections. However, its implementation at the local level still faces various challenges. This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of tokenism and the forms of women’s political representation in the nomination and election process of members of the Cilegon City Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) for the 2024–2029 period. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach using literature review and secondary data analysis. The analysis is based on Hanna Pitkin’s theory of political representation, which categorizes representation into four types: formal, symbolic, descriptive, and substantive. The findings show that only 4 out of 40 seats in the Cilegon City DPRD are occupied by women, representing approximately 10% of the total membership, and this figure has remained unchanged compared to the previous period. This condition indicates a gap between the fulfillment of the female candidate quota at the nomination stage and the low level of electoral success. Furthermore, the political recruitment process within parties also reflects indications of tokenism, where female candidates are often included merely to fulfill administrative requirements without sufficient political support. As a result, women’s representation in the Cilegon DPRD tends to remain at the formal and descriptive levels, while substantive representation remains a challenge in local political practice.

This study aims to identify domestic visitor segments in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Indonesia, based on travel characteristics and consumption patterns to support the development of quality tourism in protected areas. Using snowball sampling, 283 domestic visitors was analysed by Two-Step Cluster Analysis in SPSS by integrating length of stay, activity preferences, and expenditure patterns. The results reveal a two-cluster solution as the most optimal segmentation, supported by the highest ratio of distance measures, with cluster quality rated as fair (silhouette = 0.20). Cluster 1 (39.2%) represents short-stay, lower-spending visitors who primarily seek iconic experiences (“Sunrise Seekers”), while Cluster 2 (60.8%) reflects longer-stay, higher-spending visitors who prefer village tourism activities (“Village Experience Seekers”). The strongest differentiating variables across segments are length of stay, activity preference, expenditure style, and age, whereas gender, education level, origin, and travel companions have limited role in segment separation. This study contributes empirical evidence of data-driven visitor segmentation in a conservation-based ecotourism destination within a volcanic national park, extending prior expenditure-focused profiling by integrating length of stay and activity preferences to capture visitor heterogeneity more comprehensively.

This study aims to analyze gender-based political violence in the 2020 Regional Head Elections in South Tangerang City and its impact on women’s representation in politics. The case analyzed involves social media attacks against Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo during her campaign for Deputy Mayor, in which an old photo of her while pregnant was used as material for sexually charged attacks. This study employs a qualitative method using a case study approach through literature review. The analysis utilizes Kate Manne’s theory of misogyny, which views misogyny as a social mechanism within the patriarchal system to control and discipline women entering the public sphere. The results of the study indicate that gender-based political violence manifests in the form of the moral delegitimization of women, digital intimidation or harassment, policing of women in public spaces, and the objectification of women’s bodies. These phenomena demonstrate that gender bias remains a barrier for women in securing equal space in local political contests.

Floods are one of the most frequent hydrometeorological disasters in Indonesia and cause various social, economic, and environmental impacts on communities. In disaster situations, women often face greater vulnerability than men due to limited access to resources, high domestic responsibilities, and minimal protection in disaster policies. Although the government has adopted a gender mainstreaming policy in development, its implementation in disaster management policies remains suboptimal. This study aims to analyze how flood management policies integrate gender perspectives and identify the impacts of floods on women. The study used a qualitative approach using literature study methods and media content analysis to understand the dynamics of policies and women's experiences in disaster situations. The results show that disaster management policies still tend to focus on technical and infrastructure aspects, while women's specific needs are often overlooked, particularly regarding security in refugee camps, access to reproductive health services, and increased domestic burdens during crises. This condition indicates that the integration of a gender perspective in disaster policies still faces various structural and institutional barriers. Therefore, efforts are needed to strengthen the implementation of gender-responsive policies so that disaster management does not only focus on physical mitigation, but is also able to provide fairer and more inclusive protection for all community groups.

Introduction: Tooth loss is a common oral health problem in the elderly population and can significantly impact quality of life. The use of dentures is an important solution to restore chewing function, aesthetics, and speaking comfort. This literature review aims to analyze the effect of gender on denture use in the elderly population. Method: The research method uses a narrative review approach by searching various scientific databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Science Direct. Result: Consistent pattern exists that older women have a higher prevalence of denture use than men across countries and research settings. Factors influencing this difference include socioeconomic factors, care-seeking behavior, perceived need, aesthetic considerations, and a higher burden of tooth loss in women. Furthermore, denture use is correlated with improved quality of life and overall health. Women tend to have higher aesthetic expectations and satisfaction, while men are more functionally oriented. Conclusion: Shows that gender is an important factor that needs to be considered in planning dental health services for the elderly population.

This study explores the intersection of feminism and gender equality in Bali, analyzing how patriarchal norms, media portrayals, and religious customs marginalize Balinese women. Using Simone de Beauvoir’s concept of the “Other,” it examines why feminism faces resistance despite growing gender equality awareness. Through surveys and interviews with Balinese women aged 11–20, the findings reveal that many support gender equality but hesitate to identify as feminists due to cultural misconceptions and Western associations. The research highlights the need for educational initiatives and community discussions to integrate feminism into Balinese traditions, showing that culturally adapted advocacy is more effective than universalist approaches. It underscores the importance of feminist education, local leadership engagement, and promoting women’s roles within traditional structures, demonstrating that feminism and Balinese traditions can coexist without disrupting social harmony. Future research should explore generational shifts, digital media’s role in shaping perceptions, and comparative studies in other traditional societies to further bridge feminism and cultural values.

This study explores the influence of career factors and economic independence on the phenomenon of late marriage in early adult women (aged 25-35 years) in Indonesia, especially in urban areas of North Sumatra such as Medan. Adopting a mixed-methods design, the study involved a quantitative survey of 250 career female respondents (with age criteria above 25 years old, unmarried, and a minimum income of the city UMR) using the Likert scale to measure career priorities as well as the financial independence index, complemented by logistic regression analysis to test causal relationships. Semi-structural interviews with 20 key informants uncovered an in-depth narrative about the trade-offs between professional ambitions (such as job promotion and income stability) and traditional marriage expectations. Key findings show that women with a bachelor's degree and above and an income of 1.5 times UMR tend to postpone marriage until the average age of 31.4 years, driven by the desire to achieve economic independence (regression coefficient β=0.42, p<0.01) as well as the flexibility of living without partner dependence. However, moderator factors such as Batak or Malay cultural pressures in Medan create internal conflicts, with 68% of respondents reporting social stress from family. Theoretically, the results support role conflict theory in modern family dynamics, while implications include recommendations for work-life balance-based pre-marital counseling programs and corporate policies to support high-quality marriages. This research contributes to the Indonesian family relations literature by highlighting the paradigm shift from patriarchal norms towards gender equality.

This study aims to analyze the influence of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) on firm value and examine the role of audit committees and gender diversity as moderating variables in raw materials companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. Using a quantitative approach with a sample of 58 companies selected through purposive sampling, data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and moderated regression analysis (MRA). The results show that CSR has a positive and significant effect on firm value, indicating that the higher the disclosure and implementation of CSR, the higher the market appreciation of the company. However, audit committees and gender diversity were not proven to be able to moderate the relationship between CSR and firm value. This finding implies that although CSR has been proven effective in increasing firm value through positive investor perceptions, corporate governance mechanisms represented by audit committees and gender diversity have not functioned optimally in strengthening this relationship. Therefore, companies need to consistently improve the quality of CSR implementation and evaluate the effectiveness of the role of audit committees and gender diversity policies so that they are not merely regulatory compliance but actually contribute to overseeing and directing the company's sustainability strategy.

Gender-based domestic violence (KDRT) remains a critical issue in Indonesia, particularly in urban areas like North Jakarta. This study examines the governance of services for KDRT victims from a gender perspective in 2025, employing a qualitative case study approach. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews with 20 victims and service providers at community health centers (Puskesmas), the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Agency (DP3A), and NGOs. Findings reveal fragmented governance, characterized by weak inter-agency coordination, low accessibility for low-income victims, and insufficient integration of gender perspectives in handling procedures. Key barriers include bureaucratic hurdles and inadequate training for staff on toxic masculinity issues. The study recommends an integrated governance model based on gender-responsive governance, including a one-stop digital platform and enhanced multi-stakeholder collaboration. Policy implications support the achievement of SDGs 5 and 16 at the local level. This study also highlights the importance of increasing public awareness and education regarding gender-based domestic violence to create a safer and more inclusive environment for victims.

Kakawin Nītiśāstra is a classic Old Javanese literary work that holds significant cultural value, especially within Balinese society, and is widely studied in academic settings. Previous research has primarily focused on its ethical teachings and character education, highlighting its role as a moral guide for life. However, a closer examination of the text reveals stanzas that portray women in ways that contradict this interpretation, specifically presenting them as unequal to men. This study addresses the gap in existing literature by focusing on gender representation in Kakawin Nītiśāstra. Given its portrayal as a "guide" for life, the research aims to critically assess how gender roles are presented and encourage more thoughtful engagement with its teachings. Using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis framework and a qualitative descriptive method, the study analyzes content. The findings show that men are represented as active subjects who speak about and evaluate women, while women are positioned as passive objects under male control. The discourse reflects a patriarchal ideology, with readers implicitly constructed as male, reinforcing gender norms.

One of the most contentious topics in modern Islamic family law is polygamous marriage, especially in plural legal systems like Indonesia where national laws and human rights concepts collide with religious standards. With an emphasis on the pursuit of substantive justice within both Islamic and national legal paradigms, this study uses a socio-legal framework to analyze Indonesia's reform of polygamous marriage law. In order to evaluate the efficacy of current legal regulations, such as Law No. 1 of 1974 as amended by Law No. 16 of 2019 and the Compilation of Islamic Law, this study combines the principles of maqāṣid al-sharīʿah with socio-legal theory, drawing on normative-theological analysis and qualitative doctrinal research. The results show that normative legal ideals and actual socio-legal reality continue to diverge. The ability of statutory rules to provide women and children with meaningful protection is limited because, although they set stringent procedural requirements to prevent polygamy, their execution frequently remains formalistic and institutionally constricted. Furthermore, the achievement of justice as envisioned in Islamic ethical principles is undermined by the persistence of dominant patriarchal legal cultures in influencing judicial procedures and public attitudes. In order to reframe polygamy as a conditional socio-ethical institution rather than an inalienable legal privilege, this paper suggests a reform-oriented legal framework. The study promotes a contextualized view of Islamic law that is consistent with both international human rights norms and constitutional ideals by placing a strong emphasis on substantive justice, gender fairness, and public benefit. The results provide policy-relevant insights for creating a more just and socially responsive family law system in Indonesia and add to the ongoing discussions on Islamic legal reform.

Depression is one of the most common mental health problems experienced by older adults and is influenced by various factors, including individual characteristics and chronic disease conditions. This study aims to determine the influence of age, gender, and chronic disease history on the incidence of depression among older adults residing at Roujin Home Asahi No Ie, Japan. The study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all elderly individuals living at Roujin Home Asahi No Ie, and the sampling technique used was total sampling. The Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) was utilized as the instrument to measure depression levels. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between age and depression levels (p = 0.001), indicating that older age increases the risk of depression. Gender also demonstrated a significant association with depression (p = 0.015), showing differences in vulnerability between male and female elderly individuals. In addition, a significant relationship was found between chronic disease history and depression (p = 0.002), indicating that elderly individuals with chronic illnesses are more likely to experience depression. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that age, gender, and chronic disease history significantly influence depression among older adults. These results are expected to support the development of preventive strategies and geriatric nursing interventions to improve mental health and quality of life among elderly individuals in nursing home environments.

Gender inequality in Indonesian politics forms part of broader structural and cultural dynamics that shape women’s positions in the public sphere. In historical studies, the thought of R.A. Kartini is often interpreted primarily as a symbol of educational and moral emancipation, while the political dimension of her ideas receives limited attention. This study aims to examine Kartini’s political thought as reflected in her letters, positioning her as a political subject who articulated critiques of social structures, customary norms, and patriarchal power relations through non-formal means. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a library-based research design. The data are derived from an analysis of Kartini’s letters compiled in Door Duisternis tot Licht and supported by relevant academic literature. A descriptive-analytical method with a thematic approach is employed to explore political ideas and discourses embedded in the texts. Kartini’s thought in this study is understood as a form of political awareness that extends beyond individual emancipation and relates to broader issues of women’s political participation. This research contributes to the study of women’s politics by offering a historical perspective that places women as political subjects.

Losing a father, whether through death or divorce, is a significant life event that can impact adolescents' psychological well-being, one of which is feelings of loneliness. Fathers play a crucial role in a child's emotional and social development, and their absence can trigger feelings of isolation or a lack of social connection. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in levels of loneliness between male and female adolescents who have lost their fathers. This study used a quantitative approach with a comparative method. The subjects in this study were 152 adolescents, consisting of 96 female adolescents and 56 male adolescents who had lost their fathers. Data were collected using a loneliness scale structured according to aspects of loneliness. The data analysis technique used to test the hypothesis was an Independent Sample T-Test. The results of the data analysis showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.105 (p > 0.05). This indicates that the hypothesis stating differences in levels of loneliness is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that there are no significant differences in loneliness experienced by male and female adolescents who have lost their fathers. Both gender groups showed relatively similar levels of loneliness in response to the loss of a father.

This research is based on the shortage of functional penghulu officers, which has become a serious issue for the government, particularly the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Indonesia. This condition can affect the quality of services in marriage registration, family guidance, and the provision of legal certainty to the community. To overcome the emergency of penghulu personnel, it is necessary to propose that the position of penghulu also be granted equal access to women, whereas until now the position of penghulu has been dominated only by men. Therefore, this research aims to conduct a comprehensive study on the provisions regarding the opportunities and problems of female penghulu within Indonesia’s civil law system, in which civil law is the official positive legal umbrella governing penghulu affairs. This research is normative legal research employing a statutory approach and a conceptual approach. Meanwhile, the primary legal materials of this research consist of various laws and regulations directly related to penghulu affairs. The results of this research indicate that the opportunities for female penghulu within the civil law system are very open, constitutionally valid, and not subject to any normative prohibition. The problems arise when female penghulu are requested to act as guardians appointed by the court (wali hakim) or entrusted with the delegated guardianship of marriage (taukil wali). This is because, under Indonesia’s civil law, a wali hakim or a person receiving taukil wali is required to be male. In addition, another problem is the existence of a specific requirement to be male that must be fulfilled in the recruitment of penghulu personnel as stated in the Announcement Letter on the Recruitment of Candidates for Civil Servants of the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
