Senior high school students represent a strategic age group transitioning into adulthood and are expected to become future leaders of the nation. In the context of achieving Indonesia’s Vision 2045, threats to national resilience are no longer dominated by military aggression, but rather by non-military challenges in the form of cognitive warfare. One prominent manifestation of this threat is the massive exposure of students to low-value digital content, commonly referred to as brain rot, on social media platforms. Such content has the potential to reduce attention span, critical thinking ability, and national awareness among adolescents. Consequently, senior high school students have become a vulnerable group in the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and ideologies that contradict Pancasila values. This community service activity aims to provide training and strengthen national defense character (bela negara) among senior high school students in Jakarta through an educational and participatory approach. The methods employed include the delivery of conceptual materials on national defense awareness and digital literacy, as well as national defense debate simulations designed to enhance students’ critical, argumentative, and ethical thinking skills. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ understanding of national defense values and their ability to express logical and responsible arguments. This activity is expected to contribute to the development of a resilient, critical, and nationally-minded young generation capable of facing contemporary challenges in the digital era.

Adolescent mental health is an essential component of optimal growth and development, yet it often receives less attention compared to academic achievement. Adolescents are in a vulnerable developmental stage characterized by emotional changes, social pressure, and environmental demands, which increase the risk of mental health problems. This activity aimed to improve knowledge and promote positive attitudes among junior high school students regarding adolescent mental health, including its definition, signs and symptoms, risk factors, and prevention strategies. The method used was a health education intervention employing a pre-test and post-test design. The activity was conducted at Al Amanah Junior High School, South Tangerang City, involving 25 students. The evaluation instrument consisted of a 10-item multiple-choice questionnaire with a maximum score of 100. The results showed that the average pre-test score was 98.40%, while the post-test score increased to 99.60%, indicating a 1.20% improvement. Although the increase was relatively small due to the high baseline knowledge (ceiling effect), the findings demonstrate that the educational intervention effectively reinforced students’ understanding of adolescent mental health. In addition, interactive discussions during the session contributed to increased awareness and reduced stigma related to mental health issues. This mental health education program has the potential to support early prevention efforts and foster a more supportive school environment for adolescents’ psychological well-being.

This research traces the role of classical Islamic intellectual traditions in shaping the direction and character of the contemporary Islamic education system at the Al Asror Islamic Boarding School, Gunung Pati, Semarang. This study highlights the preservation and adaptation of the main elements of turats such as the study of the yellow book, sanad-based teacher-student relations, oral learning patterns, and the development of manners and learning ethics which are maintained as the methodological foundation of Islamic boarding schools. In the context of educational modernization, this study observes how the tradition undergoes adjustment without losing its epistemological roots. Using a qualitative approach, this study explores classroom learning practices, curriculum structure, and views of pesantren stakeholders through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Field findings show that the Al Asror Islamic Boarding School is able to combine classical scientific heritage with modern educational needs, including the implementation of more systematic learning strategies, strengthening curriculum management, and the use of digital technology as a means of supporting learning. The synergy between traditional values and the demands of this era confirms that turats are not only relevant, but also remain a source of values, ethos, and a framework of thinking that enriches Islamic boarding school educational innovations. Furthermore, the results of the study emphasize that the ability of pesantren to harmonize classical intellectual heritage with social, technological, and pedagogical developments is a strategic factor for the resilience, continuity, and competitiveness of Islamic education in the modern era.

Shyness is one of the affective factors that often hinders students’ ability to speak English in the classroom, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) contexts. This study aims to investigate students’ experiences of shyness in speaking English, identify the factors contributing to their shyness, and examine its impact on their speaking learning process. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach. The participants were junior high school students who were involved in English learning activities during a community service program (KKN). Data were collected through an open-ended questionnaire consisting of 20 questions related to students’ attitudes, feelings, experiences, and coping strategies in speaking English. The findings reveal that most students experience nervousness, fear of making mistakes, and fear of being laughed at by peers when speaking English. Peer reactions, low self-confidence, limited vocabulary, and pronunciation difficulties were identified as the main factors causing shyness. Furthermore, shyness negatively affects students’ participation and willingness to practice speaking English in class. However, supportive teachers, group-based activities, and a relaxed learning atmosphere were found to help reduce students’ shyness. This study suggests that teachers should create a supportive and non-threatening classroom environment to enhance students’ confidence in speaking English.

Indonesian language learning in elementary schools, especially on figurative language, still faces various problems, such as difficult to understand material, limited learning media, and low student interest and understanding. This is also experienced by fifth-grade students of SD 1 Mlati Lor who have difficulty recognizing types of figurative language and understanding their meaning well in context. This study aims to develop an interactive flipbook media about figurative language that highlights the local wisdom of North Sulawesi and test its feasibility and practicality for semantic learning. The method used in this study is research and development (R&D) with the ADDIE model, which consists of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 1 Mlati Lor. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, validation by material and media experts, questionnaires for teachers and students, and learning outcome tests. Data were analyzed using qualitative and quantitative descriptive approaches. The results of the study indicate that the interactive flipbook media inspired by the local wisdom of North Sulawesi was considered very valid by experts. Furthermore, practicality testing demonstrated that teachers and students responded in the "very practical" category, indicating that the media was easy to use and well-received in learning. The application of local cultural elements has been shown to help students understand figurative language concepts more clearly and meaningfully. Therefore, the developed flipbook can be used as an alternative Indonesian language learning medium to improve students' semantic understanding and cultural knowledge in elementary schools.

This study aims to examine the relationship between reading interest and students' speaking skills at the elementary school level using a literature review approach. The background of this study focuses on the importance of reading interest as an element of speaking skills that need to be honed from an early age, and there is a strong assumption that reading interest has a major influence in improving these skills. The method applied is an analysis of five scientific articles found through a search using the keywords "speaking skills", "vocabulary", and "reading interest" on Google Scholar. The results of the study showed that all studies analyzed concluded that there was a significant and positive relationship between reading interest and speaking skills. Students who have a high interest in reading generally show better speaking skills thanks to their rich vocabulary, good sentence structure, and the ability to convey ideas regularly. These findings have important implications for teachers, curriculum developers, and parents to combine reading activities with speaking activities in the educational process. Increasing literacy culture from an early age has been shown to support the development of students' oral communication skills more effectively and sustainably.

The Indonesia Smart Program (Program Indonesia Pintar/PIP) is a government initiative aimed at ensuring equal access to education for students from underprivileged families, including those at the junior high school (SMP) level. However, at the school level, the management of PIP recipient data still faces several challenges, particularly in data searching and utilization, due to the increasing volume of data and the use of simple or manual search methods. These conditions can lead to delays in obtaining information and reduce the accuracy of decision-making. Therefore, an effective information retrieval system is needed to manage and search PIP recipient data efficiently. This study aims to design and develop an Information Retrieval System for PIP recipient data at the junior high school level using the Term Frequency–Inverse Document Frequency (TF-IDF) method. The TF-IDF method is applied to assign weights to terms in each document, enabling the system to identify and rank documents based on their relevance to user queries. The test results show that the system is able to measure document relevance accurately, where documents D3 and D4 obtain the highest similarity value of 0.099586089 and are classified as highly relevant, while other documents show lower similarity values down to zero. These results are also supported by graphical visualization, which helps users compare relevance levels more clearly. Thus, the implementation of the TF-IDF method has proven to be effective in supporting accurate, efficient, and systematic searching and management of PIP recipient data at the junior high school level.

Reading ability is a basic skill that plays a crucial role in the success of students' learning process. However, various studies indicate that the reading ability of junior high school students remains low. This study aims to analyze the reading ability of students at the UPT SMP Negeri 2 Mappakasunggu using Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology perspective. The research approach used was qualitative with descriptive methods. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of students and teachers. The results indicate that students' low reading ability is not solely caused by cognitive factors but is also influenced by subjective meanings formed through students' social experiences. The lack of a literacy culture in the family and school environment results in reading not being perceived as an important or enjoyable activity. Furthermore, the dominant use of gadgets for entertainment creates habits that reduce students' interest and concentration in reading texts. From Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology perspective, these conditions are related to students' lifeworlds and stock of knowledge, which shape their perspectives and actions toward reading. This study concludes that improving students' reading ability requires a comprehensive approach, taking into account experiences, social interactions, and the formation of meaning in reading in students' daily lives.

This study investigates how character education is embedded into the school culture of an Indonesian Islamic junior high school (madrasah), focusing on four core values: religiosity, honesty, tolerance, and discipline. Using a qualitative naturalistic approach, the research was conducted at MTsN 3 Halmahera Utara through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving school leaders, teachers, and students. The findings reveal that character education at the madrasah is not a standalone program but is institutionalized through consistent routines, religious practices, and role modeling. Religiosity is fostered through structured worship, integration of Islamic values into lessons, and spiritual habits. Honesty is promoted via trust-based learning environments, teacher exemplarity, and reinforcement of moral norms. Tolerance is cultivated through inclusive social interactions and respect for religious and cultural differences, while discipline is internalized through habitual rule-following, punctuality, and self-regulation. These findings align with existing theories and regional character education frameworks, confirming that character is best formed through embedded cultural processes and consistent adult exemplarity. The study contributes to the understanding of how Islamic schools can function as moral communities and highlights the importance of alignment between school culture, family support, and wider social contexts in achieving sustainable moral development.
