Background: Pregnancy is a physiological process experienced by every woman, but it can be accompanied by various discomforts, both physical and psychological. In the third trimester, hormonal, physical, and emotional changes often trigger complaints such as anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and discomfort. These conditions, if not managed, can negatively impact the health of the mother and fetus, including increasing the risk of pregnancy complications. One non-pharmacological approach that is increasingly in demand to address these problems is aromatherapy, namely the use of essential oils from plants as a complementary therapy. Objective: This literature study aims to explore the effectiveness of aromatherapy in reducing anxiety levels and improving sleep quality in pregnant women, especially in the final trimester. Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted by analyzing ten national journal articles published between 2014–2024. Articles were selected through a purposive sampling method based on the suitability of the topics with aromatherapy, pregnancy, anxiety, and sleep quality. Results: Most studies show that aromatherapy, especially with lavender, orange, and chamomile essential oils, has a positive effect in reducing anxiety levels and improving sleep quality. The mechanism of action of aromatherapy is thought to involve stimulation of the limbic system in the brain via the olfactory pathway, which plays a role in regulating emotions, inducing relaxation, and reducing sympathetic nervous system activity. These effects help reduce tension and facilitate better sleep in pregnant women. Conclusion: Aromatherapy has been shown to be a safe, easy-to-implement, and effective complementary intervention for addressing anxiety and sleep disturbances in pregnancy. Healthcare providers, particularly midwives, are advised to integrate this therapy into holistic antenatal care to support the overall well-being of pregnant women.

Pain is an unpleasant sensation that can interfere with an individual's quality of life and requires effective management. Synthetic analgesics such as ketorolac, codeine, etoricoxib, and celecoxib are commonly used to relieve pain, but long-term use can cause adverse side effects, including gastrointestinal disturbances, dependence, and cardiovascular risks. Therefore, it is important to find safer, natural alternatives. One promising alternative is the extract of the dragon’s tail leaf (Rhaphidophora pinnata), a plant traditionally used in Indonesian medicine as a pain reliever. This study aims to evaluate and compare the analgesic effects of Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract with several synthetic drugs using the writhing test on male mice (Mus musculus). The mice were induced with pain by injecting a 0.5% acetic acid solution. The treatments included ketorolac, codeine, etoricoxib, celecoxib, and Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract. The results showed that all treatments, including both synthetic drugs and Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract, produced significant analgesic effects compared to the negative control (Na CMC 0.5%). Ketorolac showed the highest effectiveness, followed by codeine, etoricoxib, and celecoxib. Although the Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract showed potential as a natural analgesic, its effectiveness varied among individual test animals. Some mice showed a better response to the leaf extract, but overall, the analgesic effect was still lower than that of synthetic drugs. These findings support the use of medicinal plants as a safer alternative to synthetic analgesic drugs. Moreover, this study provides a foundation for further research aimed at isolating active compounds from Rhaphidophora pinnata leaf extract to develop more effective and safer pain-relieving medications.

Urban logistics is a significant source of carbon emissions in Indonesia, and effective decarbonization strategies are required. EVs offer a promising solution, but their impact requires quantitative evaluation within the local context. This study analyzes the effect of adopting an electric van fleet on total well-to-wheel carbon emissions within an urban distribution network in Indonesia. This study employs a comparative case study method. A baseline scenario consisting of 25 diesel vans is compared to an intervention scenario where electric vans replace the entire fleet. The emission analysis was conducted using the WtW framework, utilizing specific emission factors for diesel fuel from the IPCC (2006) and the Java-Madura-Bali (JAMALI) grid emission factor from IESR (2023) to ensure contextual relevance. The transition to an electric fleet successfully reduces the total well-to-wheel carbon footprint by 13.63%. This reduction is equivalent to an absolute CO2 emission decrease of nearly 3 tons of CO₂ per month. Nevertheless, indirect emissions from electricity generation still contribute a significant carbon footprint, indicating that the national energy mix is highly dependent on the environmental benefits of EVs. This study concludes that fleet electrification is a viable and effective decarbonization strategy for Indonesia’s logistics sector, even with the current state of the electricity grid. However, fleet decarbonization efforts must run in parallel with policies for a national transition toward renewable energy to maximize the emission reduction potential of electric mobility. Future research should include the total cost of ownership (TCO) and life cycle assessment (LCA) for a more holistic evaluation.

This research is an evaluative study of the old urban area of Kesawan in Medan City, which has been part of the city’s revitalization efforts initiated by the Medan City Government. Kesawan possesses strong historical and colonial architectural character but has undergone functional and visual degradation due to uncontrolled modern urban development. One of the key issues identified is the presence of inactive urban spaces, disconnected from the public realm and lacking social meaning—phenomena recognized in urban theory as lost space. This concept serves as the foundation for evaluating the effectiveness of the revitalization program implemented since 2021. The study employs a qualitative approach using a single-case study method, focusing on Kesawan as a complex urban space. Data were collected through field observations, in-depth interviews with five categories of informants (building owners, visitors, security personnel, street vendors, and architects), and visual documentation. The analysis adopts the theoretical framework of Finding Lost Space by Roger Trancik (1986), which comprises three main approaches: Figure-Ground Theory, Linkage Theory, and Place Theory. These were further elaborated into six evaluative indicators: connectivity, continuity and circulation, enclosure, accessibility, visual orientation, and the meaning and perception of space by the public. The findings indicate that revitalization has brought significant visual improvements and physical enhancements, particularly along the main corridor of Jalan Ahmad Yani I–VII. However, many secondary streets and non-priority areas still exhibit characteristics of lost space, such as disconnected pedestrian paths, underutilized voids, weak spatial integration, and limited social engagement. These conditions suggest that the revitalization outcomes remain uneven and predominantly cosmetic in certain areas. The study recommends integrating spatial and social approaches in future urban revitalization policies to ensure that public space functions can be restored holistically, sustainably, and contextually in line with local identity.

Changes in building functions in urban areas have become an inevitable phenomenon, especially in developing cities such as Binjai City. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing building function changes in the area, using a Mixed Methods approach that combines quantitative analysis through multiple linear regression and qualitative documentation based on field observations. Four independent variables were examined: inconsistency with the Spatial Plan (RTRW), accessibility, economic motivation, and law enforcement. The results show that economic motivation and accessibility have a significant influence on building function changes. Meanwhile, the variables of RTRW inconsistency and weak law enforcement did not show statistically significant effects. These findings are supported by visual field evidence indicating a massive conversion of building functions without effective spatial planning control. Photographic documentation reveals a tendency among the community to adapt building functions for economic activities in strategically accessible areas. The study concludes that building function changes in Binjai City are driven by economic needs and urban spatial dynamics that are not matched by supervision and enforcement of spatial planning regulations. Recommendations include strengthening spatial supervision, providing socio-economic-based incentives, simplifying permit processes, and implementing community-based public education. This research offers valuable contributions to adaptive urban planning while upholding the principles of spatial order and community aspirations.

Slum settlements developing around Final Disposal Sites (TPA) represent a complex phenomenon that affects the quality of the urban living environment. In Karo Regency, the proximity of the TPA to residential areas has raised various issues such as air pollution, declining sanitation quality, and limited community participation in spatial planning processes. This study aims to analyze the influence of Distance to the TPA (X1), Length of Residence (X2), Community Participation (X3), Perception of TPA Impact (X4), and Household Income (X5) on the Quality of Slum Settlements (Y). A quantitative approach was applied using a multiple linear regression model, based on primary data from 200 respondents residing in areas affected by the TPA. The analysis revealed that, simultaneously, the four independent variables (X1–X4) significantly influence settlement quality, whereas household income does not show a significant effect. Partially, Distance to the TPA and Length of Residence have negative effects, while Perception of TPA Impact has a positive effect. Interestingly, Community Participation shows a negative influence, indicating ineffective engagement in environmental management. The R² value of 0.016 suggests that the model explains only a small portion of the variation, yet the F-test significance supports the overall model's relevance. Recommendations from this study include the importance of establishing a minimum 300-meter buffer zone between the TPA and residential areas, implementing sanitary landfill methods to replace open dumping systems, forming environmentally-based community forums with advocacy strength, and conducting community-based waste management training focusing on high-risk households. Strengthening participatory approaches through integration into village and sub-district spatial planning is essential for managing environmental impacts collaboratively and sustainably.

The existence of Final Waste Processing Sites (TPA) in urban areas often presents a dilemma between the need for waste management infrastructure and its environmental and social impacts on surrounding communities. This study aims to examine the impact of the TPA Terjun in Medan City on patterns of land use change and the socioeconomic conditions of nearby residents. The method used is quantitative, involving a survey of 150 respondents, and multiple linear regression analysis to test the influence of two independent variables namely, the characteristics of the TPA and public perception and response on community perceptions of environmental impacts. The results indicate that both independent variables have a significant simultaneous effect on public perception, with a model significance value of 0.022. Partially, the physical characteristics of the TPA have a significantly positive influence, while community perceptions and responses also contribute meaningfully. However, the low coefficient of determination (R² = 0.009) suggests that many other factors outside the model also influence perceptions of environmental impact. This study highlights the importance of a holistic approach in spatial planning and urban environmental management, particularly in relation to public facilities such as TPAs. Community participation, infrastructure quality, and zoning certainty are crucial factors in maintaining the balance between the functional needs of the city and the desired quality of the microenvironment.
