This research is motivated by the problem of communication in economic transactions in the Aru Islands District, which is recruited by a multi-ethnic community with a variety of regional languages. Although Indonesian has great potential as a national communication tool, its use in local economic activities is still limited, thus hampering the smooth interaction between traders and buyers. This communication inefficiency has an impact on the negotiation process and local economic competitiveness. This study aims to instill the role of Indonesian in facilitating economic transactions, identify barriers to use, and develop strategies to improve Indonesian language skills in the community. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies, with informants selected using purposive sampling techniques to obtain data relevant to the local economic context. Expected results include an understanding of the contribution of Indonesian in increasing the effectiveness of transactions, revealing communication challenges, and strategies for improving contextual and applicable language literacy. These findings can provide practical contributions to local governments, educational institutions, and business actors in developing language training programs that support economic activities. From a theoretical perspective, this research enriches the study of the relationship between language and economic development, especially in multilingual areas such as the Aru Islands.

The increasing environmental challenges faced globally have highlighted the urgent need for an environmentally literate generation. Environmental literacy, encompassing cognitive, affective, and behavioral aspects, is essential for fostering awareness and concern for the environment among young people. As such, understanding the level of environmental literacy in students is crucial to effectively address these challenges. This study aims to determine the environmental literacy skills of high school students in Batu City based on gender and school accreditation. The study used a descriptive quantitative approach with a purposive sampling technique. The research sample consisted of 1,054 students from six high schools, including three public schools and three private schools. The instrument used was a validated Environmental Literacy Instrument for Students (ELIS) based on a questionnaire. The results indicated that, in general, students' environmental literacy skills were in the high category, with an average percentage of 78-80% across all dimensions. The Independent sampel t-test revealed a significant difference in environmental literacy skills based on gender, with female students demonstrating higher concern for the environment compared to male students. Additionally, a significant difference was found between schools with A and B accreditation, with A-accredited schools showing higher results. This study recommends emphasizing the importance of experiential learning, as well as considering gender and accreditation factors in the development of environmental literacy programs.

The maritime industry requires financially literate and strategically competent professionals to navigate challenges in shipping management, business sustainability, and economic resilience. However, vocational maritime education often lacks practical financial training and sustainability-driven business strategies, creating gaps between academic learning and industry needs. This research addresses these gaps by analyzing how maritime education aligns with financial sustainability and business competency development. Unlike previous studies that separately examine maritime education or financial sustainability, this research integrates expert insights, graduate experiences, and educator perspectives to develop a holistic framework for maritime business and financial training. The findings contribute to policy discussions on improving vocational curricula and bridging industry-academia gaps. This study investigates the effectiveness of maritime vocational education in developing competencies in financial decision-making, economic resilience, and business sustainability. It evaluates curriculum alignment with industry demands and identifies key areas for enhancement. A qualitative research design was used, incorporating semi-structured interviews with 13 maritime professionals, 4 educators, and 33 graduates. Thematic analysis was applied to assess vocational training effectiveness in financial sustainability and business resilience. Findings reveal strong technical competency but gaps in financial literacy and sustainability-driven business strategies. Maritime education programs scored 9/10 in effectiveness, but practical applications of financial decision-making and risk management need reinforcement. This study provides actionable insights for vocational training reforms, emphasizing applied financial education, industry collaboration, and sustainability-driven business strategies. The findings support future curriculum development to equip maritime professionals with enhanced financial and managerial competencies for industry leadership.

The development of information and communication technology in Indonesia continues to grow rapidly, as evidenced by the internet penetration rate reaching 73.3% in 2019 (APJII). With 144.19 million out of 196.71 million Indonesians having internet access, the country has become the largest digital economy market in Southeast Asia (Google e-Conomy SEA, 2020). West Java Province recorded the highest number of internet users, followed by Central Java, DKI Jakarta, and Jambi. In response to this development, President Joko Widodo has designated accelerating digital transformation towards becoming a "digital nation" as one of the main visions of his administration, focusing on the development of digital talent human resources. This program emphasizes the importance of digital literacy, which includes individuals' ability to access, understand, create, communicate, and evaluate digital technology (UNESCO, 2018). The Minister of Communication and Information Technology targets digital literacy for 12.5 million Indonesians by 2020–2024 to enhance cognitive abilities beyond merely operating devices. Increasing community literacy in environmental management is a strategic step to realize sustainable development. One practical approach that can be implemented is through community-based education. This article examines how local communities can become agents of change in increasing public awareness and understanding regarding environmental issues, such as waste management, natural resource conservation, and adaptation to climate change. Through a participatory approach, community-based education encourages direct community involvement in designing and implementing environmental programs that suit local needs. Case studies from various regions show that collaboration between communities, government, and the private sector can increase the effectiveness of educational programs and create long-term impacts. The work programs are processing organic and inorganic waste, processing agricultural land, planting trees, preventing dengue fever and making anti-mosquito spray, providing information related to Hoaxes and phishing link modes, and collecting data on MSMEs. Apart from that, there are also work programs regarding learning posts, introducing waste banks, making street signs, and creating village websites. The results obtained from this activity are an approach to the community through social activities carried out with residents and increasing community insight through the outreach and training programs provided. Apart from that, village facilities can be improved by creating street signs and village websites. It is hoped that the results of this study can become a practical guide in developing a sustainable community-based education model for environmental management.
