Village history is an important identity that needs to be preserved to prevent it from being lost over time. Pangadegan Village in Pagelaran District, South Cianjur, has a historical legacy that has not been scientifically documented and is at risk of being forgotten by the younger generation. This community service activity aims to explore and document the local history of Pangadegan Village by involving active community participation as a form of empowerment. The approach used is the Asset-Based Community Development method, which focuses on exploring historical assets and local potential through the stages of identification, deliberation, design, agreement, and sustainable development. The activity was implemented through in-depth interviews with village elders, observations of historical sites, focus group discussions, and documentation training for youth. The results of the activity indicate increased community awareness of the importance of village history, the establishment of an initiative to form a village archives team, and the creation of documentation products in the form of small books and digital publications. This activity also opens up opportunities for the development of history-based cultural and educational tourism as a form of sustainability. Thus, this community service activity confirms that preserving local history through an asset-based approach can strengthen identity, empower communities, and provide sustainable social, cultural, and economic benefits.

Kaloran Village is an area characterized by steep slope topography that makes it vulnerable to landslides, especially during the rainy season with high rainfall intensity. Although the landslide risk level in this village is still relatively low and has never caused any casualties, the potential for material losses and psychosocial impacts that may arise still need to be seriously anticipated. Disaster risk reduction efforts in Kaloran Village are carried out through the Disaster Resilient Village Work Program (Destana), which aims to increase the capacity and capability of the community in facing disaster threats. The program implementation method consists of three main stages: preparation through focus group discussions (FGDs) and interviews with stakeholders, preparation of the Destana document containing mitigation strategies and steps, and community empowerment through socialization activities and preparedness training. The results of the study indicate that Kaloran Village is categorized as a Medium Resilient Village with a resilience score of 68.97. This achievement serves as an important basis for strengthening the village preparedness system, which is followed up with the establishment of the Disaster Risk Reduction Forum (FPRB) "Kaloran Tangguh Rescue" as a community coordination forum. In addition, evacuation route maps were produced, which serve as technical guidance in the event of a disaster, and the development of the Destana (Disaster Preparedness and Disaster Management) and Contingency Plan (Renkon) documents, which serve as official guidelines for disaster mitigation and management efforts at the village level. This program demonstrates that active community participation, collaboration between stakeholders, and the development of strategic documents can strengthen village preparedness for the threat of landslides.

Waste remains one of the major environmental issues and a serious challenge in rural communities. The lack of discipline in waste disposal and limited knowledge of the impact of non-biodegradable waste have contributed to declining environmental quality and potential health problems. In Buniwangi Village, Pagelaran Subdistrict, Cianjur Regency, these conditions highlight the need for educational programs that provide practical understanding while fostering community awareness. This community service activity aimed to improve residents’ awareness of waste management through visual education media in the form of information boards displaying the decomposition time of various types of waste, ranging from organic to non-organic materials. The implementation method applied an asset-based community development (ABCD) approach, emphasizing active community participation. The program was carried out in three main stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The preparation stage included location surveys, needs mapping, and obtaining permission from village authorities. The implementation stage involved designing attractive educational boards, installing them at strategic points in the village, and conducting socialization to explain the information provided. The evaluation stage was carried out through direct observation and short interviews to assess the program’s impact on community knowledge and behavior. The results indicated an improvement in residents’ understanding of the differences between biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. Villagers began to show awareness of reducing single-use plastics and started applying the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle) in daily life. Overall, this program had a positive impact by fostering greater environmental concern and became an initial step toward building a sustainable waste management culture in Buniwangi Village.

This program was designed to address the challenge of low reading interest and the limited access to learning facilities among children in the local community. The main target of the activity was children aged 5–8 years, with the objective of increasing reading interest, strengthening basic cognitive skills, and fostering positive learning habits from an early age. The program was carried out through interactive learning methods with a thematic approach, combined with group discussions, question-and-answer sessions, shared reading, and simple practices that encouraged active participation. The learning materials covered Basic Mathematics, Indonesian Language, and General Knowledge, all adjusted to the children’s comprehension levels. In addition, a coloring competition was held to foster creativity, train fine motor skills, and create a fun and engaging learning atmosphere. Evaluation results indicated a significant improvement in children’s enthusiasm for learning, better understanding of the provided materials, and more active involvement during the sessions. The children also demonstrated increased self-confidence, particularly when asked to read aloud or answer questions in front of their peers. Furthermore, the provision of a bookshelf in the community hall became a strategic step to establish a sustainable reading space that could be used outside of program hours. Overall, the program successfully achieved its intended goals and is considered feasible to be expanded to other areas. Additional support in the form of a wider collection of books, more creative learning media, and consistent community involvement will be key factors in ensuring the sustainability and long-term impact of the program.

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease that is currently a major public health problem in Indonesia. The prevalence of DM continues to increase from year to year, not only in urban areas but also increasingly found in rural areas. One factor contributing to the high number of DM cases is a lack of public awareness of the importance of a healthy lifestyle, as well as the continued presence of many undiagnosed cases, resulting in delayed treatment. Therefore, early detection efforts and health education that can reach the community at the community level are needed. This community service program was designed to conduct random blood sugar screenings while increasing the knowledge of residents of RW 15 Kalibaru regarding the prevention and control of DM. The activity was carried out on August 24, 2025, involving 21 participants, most of whom were from adults to the elderly. The activity method consisted of two main stages: checking blood sugar levels using a glucometer and a health education session on a healthy lifestyle, a balanced diet, and the importance of regular physical activity. The results of the activity showed that the indicators of success were well achieved. This was indicated by the orderly implementation of the examinations, a high level of participation from residents, and increased awareness of the dangers of DM among participants. From the examination results, most participants had normal blood sugar levels, but several people were found with blood sugar levels above the normal limit who required medical follow-up.

Waste management has become an increasingly complex environmental issue, particularly in urban areas and densely populated settlements. The lack of public awareness in disposing of waste properly has caused numerous negative impacts, including soil and water pollution, flooding due to clogged drainage systems, reduced environmental aesthetics, and the spread of infectious diseases. These conditions indicate that the waste problem is not merely a technical issue of collection and disposal, but also strongly related to people’s behavior and environmental awareness. Therefore, a simple, practical, and effective approach is required to encourage behavioral change in daily life. One alternative solution is through visual education by using waste signboards that display educational and persuasive messages. These signboards are installed in strategic locations to serve as direct reminders for residents to care more about environmental cleanliness. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of waste education signboards in improving community understanding and discipline in waste disposal practices. The methods applied included counseling sessions, participatory discussions with residents, designing communicative and attractive signboards, and installing them in high-traffic areas such as main roads, schools, worship places, and public spaces. The results of the activity indicated an increase in public knowledge regarding the impacts of waste, active participation in maintaining cleanliness, and a significant reduction in littering behavior around the areas where the signboards were installed. Furthermore, residents gave positive feedback and expressed their willingness to expand the initiative by adding more signboards in other locations as part of sustainable action. In conclusion, educational signboards proved to be an effective, low-cost, and practical medium to raise community awareness. Beyond delivering environmental messages, the signboards also helped strengthen collective commitment among residents to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable living environment.

Sustainable food security is a strategic issue in rural development that demands a comprehensive approach based on local communities. This community service activity aims to provide socialization and education about sustainable food security through a socio-economic phenomenological approach, focusing on the role of farmer housewives in Pondidaha Village, Konawe Regency. The implementation methods included educational lectures, focus group discussions (FGDs), field visits, and hands-on practice on sustainable food management, involving 20 farmer housewife respondents. The results showed that 80% of participants gained an adequate understanding of the concept of sustainable food security, local food diversification strategies, and an active role in improving family welfare through strengthening socio-economic capacity. The main challenges identified include limited access to resources, the dual role of housewives, and seasonal income instability. The solutions implemented include sustainable agriculture management training, food diversification counseling, and increased local market access. The socio-economic phenomenological approach provides a perspective that the life experiences, cultural values, and habits of farmer housewives are key elements in the success of food security programs at the community level. This activity contributes to increasing public awareness, skills, and participation in realizing sustainable food security, as well as strengthening the role of women in rural development based on local wisdom. This result is expected to be a model of community empowerment that can be replicated in other rural areas with similar characteristics.

Community service (PkM) in the form of educational assistance and legal consultation in Bulili Village, Duhiadaa Subdistrict, was carried out with the aim of improving legal understanding and assisting the community in resolving legal issues they face. This educational support and legal consultation activity was based on two crucial issues: the community's lack of understanding of marriage and inheritance laws, and their low participation in the village regulation formation process. These two issues were chosen because they significantly affect the realization of a safe, orderly, and prosperous village. The methods used in this community service program include interactive outreach and participatory-based direct consultation, combining educational and legal empowerment approaches for village residents. The results of the program indicate an increase in community legal awareness regarding rights and obligations within the family context, as well as the importance of active community involvement in the formulation of village regulations. It is hoped that this activity can strengthen the legal culture at the local level and serve as a foundation for the development of a just, inclusive, and sustainable village.

The silver craft center in Sukawati District, Gianyar Regency, Bali faces significant challenges related to product marketing in the digital era. A heavy reliance on offline sales through exhibitions and tourists has resulted in slim profit margins for artisans, making their economic conditions highly vulnerable to fluctuations in visitor numbers. Additionally, silver artisans face difficulties in managing digital marketing, including limitations in writing attractive product descriptions, lack of understanding of product photography, and insufficient skills in managing social media and online stores. This situation adversely affects market reach, especially for international consumers who cannot access these products directly. To address these issues, the Japanese Literature Study Program at Mahasaraswati University Denpasar collaborated with Shitennoji University, Osaka, to conduct a community service program focused on mentoring digital marketing for silver craft products targeting the Japanese market, particularly with Yanyan Silver, one of the cooperative partners. The community service activities lasted for two months, beginning with observation and situation analysis on June 14, 2025, and concluding with evaluation at the end of August 2025. The Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach enabled active participation from artisans in every stage of the activity, from problem identification, planning, implementation, to evaluation. This approach ensures that the solutions produced are tailored to local needs and context. The marketing strategy employed used an integrated marketing mix covering product, price, promotion, and distribution through digital platforms. This facilitated easier customer access in Japan and enhanced Yanyan Silver’s brand awareness. These efforts positively impacted expanding market reach, improving the economic stability of artisans, and strengthening the competitiveness of silver craft products internationally, especially in the Japanese market.

The results of this study indicate that DT Peduli Jambi has not yet fully optimized the management of productive zakat, despite having a structured management system in place. Based on data analysis, several key factors were identified as obstacles to optimization. First, there is a lack of public trust in the institution, as reflected in the absence of significant growth in zakat collection over the past three years. This condition highlights the need for more effective communication and transparency strategies. Second, administrative challenges remain, such as a record-keeping system that is not yet fully integrated digitally and limited human resources with expertise in managing productive zakat. Third, resistance to change among beneficiaries persists, with approximately 30% refusing to adopt modern business management methods offered by the program. Fourth, there is a high dependency on assistance, with 40% of beneficiaries still heavily reliant on institutional mentoring. Fifth, participation in training programs remains low, with an average attendance rate of only 65%. Nevertheless, overall the program is categorized as “fairly successful” with an achievement score of 70 out of 100. This indicates that productive zakat holds great potential to promote economic empowerment of the community but has not yet been maximized due to structural and cultural barriers. Therefore, improvements are needed in transparency, capacity building of human resources, as well as persuasive and participatory approaches for beneficiaries, so that the goal of economic empowerment through productive zakat can be more effectively realized.

This study examines the social, economic, and tourism impacts on the lives of the community in Penglipuran Tourism Village. The research highlights that the growth of tourism significantly increases local income by approximately 150–300%, fosters the creation of new business opportunities, and contributes to the preservation of Balinese culture and traditions. Tourism development not only strengthens the village’s cultural identity but also enhances social cohesion through community-based tourism initiatives. In addition, the adoption of digital technologies, such as cashless payment systems and electronic ticketing, has improved transaction efficiency, transparency, and market expansion, while also providing better services for visitors. Despite these benefits, several challenges have emerged, including growing environmental pressures, waste management issues, and the potential widening of economic inequality between residents directly involved in tourism and those who are not. These challenges indicate that tourism development can also create socio-economic gaps and place strains on the village’s natural resources if not managed carefully. Therefore, sustainable tourism management becomes crucial in balancing cultural preservation, economic equity, and environmental protection. This study suggests that policies integrating community participation, equitable economic distribution, and environmental sustainability are essential to ensure long-term positive impacts. Ultimately, Penglipuran Tourism Village can serve as a model for sustainable rural tourism development in Indonesia and beyond.
