MAKNA DAN FUNGSI PENCAK SILAT PADA TRADISI PERNIKAHAN ADAT DI DESA KUALA MAHATO KABUPATEN ROKAN HULU PROVINSI RIAU

This study aims to reveal the meaning and function of pencak silat in the traditional wedding tradition in Kuala Mahato Village, Rokan Hulu Regency, Riau Province. Pencak silat in this village, especially Silat Tarekat, has an important role in wedding ceremonies, which reflect the cultural values ​​of the local community. The method used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach, involving interviews, observations, and documentation to collect data from informants. The results of the study show that pencak silat functions as a form of respect for the bride and groom and family, as well as a symbol of courage and strength needed in building a household. The movements performed during the performance not only function as entertainment, but also reflect cultural values ​​such as unity and harmony. Traditional musical instruments, such as gongs, drums, and celempongs, add to the festive atmosphere and enrich the emotional experience of the event. In conclusion, pencak silat in the traditional wedding tradition in Kuala Mahato Village is not just an art performance, but also a means to convey cultural values, spirituality, and strength in facing married life.
