Analisis Perawatan Steering Gear di Kapal MV. CEMTRANS

Steering gear is one of the important equipment in a ship. It functions to help the ship turn to the left (port side) and right (starboard side). The steering gear itself can function when the ship is moving. But sometimes the maintenance of the steering gear is not considered properly so that damage occurs to the steering gear. The purpose of writing this final project report is to determine the factors that cause damage to the steering gear, the impact of damage to the steering gear and how to maintain the steering gear. The type of research used by the author in writing this scientific paper is a qualitative method. The results of the discussion of this study are the factors that cause damage including over pressure, damage to the valve, loose flanges, use of inappropriate types and quality of hydraulic oil and damage to seals and o-rings, the impact of damage is disrupting ship operations, high material losses and failures occur when the ship is maneuvering and how to carry out maintenance that is carried out in a planned manner and periodic maintenance according to the plan maintenance system. Therefore, it is important to carry out maintenance on the steering gear in order to optimize the performance of the steering gear.
